Japanese Fans Rank the "Top 10 Manga They'd Like to See Animated"

In December of 2018, an online survey on Japanese website goo ranking asked fans for the top manga that they'd like to see adapted into anime, and some 3240 fans weighed in. The survey ran from December 01 - 15, 2018, and the questionnaires, data-collection, and interpretation of the results were handled by the goo ranking editorial staff.

 

According to the results, the "Top 10 Manga They'd Like to See Animated" are as follows:

A Silent Voice Returns to U.S. Theaters on January 28th and 31st

Good news, anime fans! Fathom Events and Eleven Arts are teaming up once again to bring the 2016 film, A Silent Voice (known in Japan as Koe no Katachi), back to U.S. theaters for a special set of screenings in some 500 theaters on January 28 and January 31, 2019.

 

The film will screen in the original Japanese language with English subtitles on January 28, 2019 at 7:00 PM local time, while the English dubbed version will be screened on January 31, 2019, at 7:00 PM local time. The screenings also include a featurette with an interview with Lexi Cowden, who provides the voice of Shoko in the English dubbed version of A Silent Voice.

 

 

Based on the heart-wrenching manga by Yoshitoki Oima, A Silent Voice is directed by Naoka Yamada and features animation production by Kyoto Animation. Fathom Events describes the story of A Silent Voice as follows:

 

After transferring into a new school, a deaf girl, Shoko Nishimiya, is bullied by the popular Shoya Ishida. As Shoya continues to bully Shoko, the class turns its back on him. Shoko transfers and Shoya grows up as an outcast. Alone and depressed, the regretful Shoya finds Shoko to make amends.

Killer T Cell Takes the Lead in Cells at Work! Spinoff

With all the cells we have in our bodies, there will always be more stories to tell. Next up with his own new stories is Killer T!

 

Cells at Work! FRIEND is the latest spinoff of the popular series. Other manga spinoffs such as Cells at Work BLACK, Bacteria at Work, and Cells that Don't Work have already been published, focusing in on specific characters from the series. Cells at Work! FRIEND will star the aggressive Killer T as he takes down foreign bodies and unhealthy cells.

 

 

Kanna Kurono (Heian-kei Joshi! Murasaki-san!!) will be writing the manga, with Mio Izumi (Koko Kara Saki wa NG!) handling the art. The first installment is out in the latest issues of shojo manga mag Bessatsu FRIEND.

Gundam: Hathaway's Flash 1st Trailer Introduces a Glimpse of Flying Mobile Suit

The Gundam franchise's official portal site Gundam.info has posted a 70-second first trailer for the forthcoming

trilogy anime film project based on Yoshiyuki Tomino's Mobile Suit Gundam: Senkou no Hathaway/Hathaway's

Flash novel and announced its main staff, including director Shukou Murase (Gundam Wing character designer).

 

The clip has been already attached to the currently-showing Mobile Suit Gundam NT since last December. As 

the second part of the "UC NexT 0100" project, the trilogy film project is scheduled to launch next winter.

1,800-yen advance tickets with a clear file are go on sale at the 90 theaters that is showing NT in Japanfrom

Senkou no Hathaway/Hathaway's Flash was written by Tomino, one of the original creators of the first Mobile

Suit Gundam TV series who served as director, as a sequel to his 1988 novel Mobile Suit Gundam Char's

Counterattack - Beltorchika Children (based on his rejected first draft for the 1988 film Mobile Suit Gundam

Char's Counterattack), and published for three volumes from Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko from 1989 to 1990.

 

The story is set twelve years after The Second Neo Zeon War led by Char Aznable, and focuses on Bright Noa's

son Hathaway, who secretly acts as "Mufti Nabiyu Erin", the leader of a terrorist organization called "Mufti"

whose purpose is to assassinate The Earth Federation's leaders.

Japan Box Office 2018: Detective Conan Zero the Enforcer Became Top-Grossing Anime Film

As 2018 wrapped up, the box-office figures for Japanese anime films and live-action adaptations of popular manga and anime released from January to December are arrived. 

 

The top-grossing anime film of 2018 was Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer, the 22nd feature film based on Gosho Aoyama's long-running mystery manga series was released in Japan on April 13, 2018. It made a massive 9.18 billion yen from its domestic run, becoming the most successful film in the franchise and the second top-grossing Japanese film of last year, behind only Japanese idol Tomohisa Yamashita-starring medical drama Code Blue: The Movie that earned 9.23 billion yen. The 23rd film The Fist of Blue Sapphire is already set for release on April 12, 2019.

 

Meanwhile, Gintama 2: Okite wa Yaburu tame ni koso Aru (The Rule is surely there to be broken) was the most successful live-action film adaptation of Japanese manga. The sequel featuring the

same cast and staff members from the first film in 2017 made 3.65 billion yen, which was slightly

short of the first film's total of 3.82 billion yen. While the cast have expressed their desire and

anticipation, the announcement for the third film has not yet been made.

Star☆Twinkle Girls Join PreCure Miracle Universe Film Poster Visual

The official website for PreCure Miracle Universe, the next 26th feature film from Toei Animation's

PreCure anime franchise, has revealed a poster visual featuring the 15 PreCure girls to appear in

the story, including the four from the forthcoming 16th TV series Star☆Twinkle PreCure: Cure Star,

Cure Milky, Cure Soleil, and Cure Selene. And it also shows a factory of "Miracle Light" in the background.

While the last 25th film Hugtto! PreCure Futari wa Pretty Cure: All Stars Memories had the 55 PreCure

girls from the 15 TV series, PreCure Miracle Universe is confirmed to feature the three recent teams:

the 14th series Kirakira PreCure a la Mode (2017–2018), the 15th series Hugtto! PreCure (2018), and

the next 16th series Star☆Twinkle PreCure (2019-).

 

According to the site's introduction, the story of the film is about a planet that has produced "Miracle

Light" that has been used as the key item in the previous PreCure films (and given to the audience to

cheer up the PreCure girls during the screening), which is located somewhere in outer space. One day,

Hikaru Hoshina, the protagonist of Star☆Twinkle PreCure, is moved to the space instantly by supernatural

power when she watches the stars. Then the lights are gone, darkness starts covering the stars. But

she doesn't give up a hope to get back the space's lights, and she needs supports from the audience.

 

PreCure Miracle Universe is directed by Yukio Kaizawa (Kirakira PreCure a la Mode co-series director)

and is set to be released in Japan on March 16, 2019.

16th PreCure TV Series Star☆Twinkle PreCure Reveals Character Visuals, Main Voice Cast

The official website for Toei Animation's forthcoming 16th PreCure TV series Star☆Twinkle PreCure is 

updated today with a main visual, character visuals, main voice cast and staff information.

 

Eimi Naruse, a member of Japanese idol group Dempagumi.inc, is confirmed to voice the protagonist

girl Hikaru Hoshina/Cure Star. This is her second anime character voicing role, following Houdou Anna 

in Doamaiger D in 2015.

 

Hiroaki Miyamoto, who worked as the fourth series director for the One Piece TV anime (352nd-679th

episodes) and the director for the 2016 feature film One Piece Film Gold, serves as series director. He

previously directed several episodes of the 14th series Kirakira PreCure a la Mode and the ongoing 15th

series Hugtto! PreCure. Akira Takahashi returns to the PreCure series as character designer for the third

time, following the eighth series Suite PreCure♪ and the 10th series DokiDoki! PreCure.

 

 

For the first time in the PreCure TV series' 16-year history, the story of Star☆Twinkle PreCure is set in

outer space. It begins when the protagonist Hikaru Hoshina, who is in her second grade at junior high,

meets a mysterious creature named Fuwa and two aliens, Lala Hagoromo and Prunce. They have just

arrived at the earth. Hikaru learns that "Star Princesses of The 12 Star Signs," who kept the balance

of the universe in the the scared are of the Star Sky World far from the earth, were attacked by someone

and have been scattered as the 12 "Princess Star Color Pen." Then Fuwa is attacked by Notoraider who

seeks to rule the universe, and as Hikaru wants to save the baby fairy, she transforms into PreCure.

She deicides to begin a space adventure to collect the "Princess Star Color Pen" and raise Fuwa, who

has the key to revive the Princesses.

 

Star☆Twinkle PreCure is set to premiere in Japan at 8:30 am on February 3, 2019 (JST).

Fate/stay night Saber Fountain Pen Shines a Beautiful Blue

Sun-Star Stationery has started accepting pre-orders for a custom fountain pen inspired by Saber, one

of the main characters in the Fate/stay night [Heaven's Feel] trilogy film series, on its online store in

Premium Bandai. The special item is manufactured by the 100-year-old well-established Japanese

stationery company The Sailor Pen.

 

In addition to the pen shining with Saber's character color and emblems, the set also includes an

original "deep blue" ink, which was newly prepared for the Saber pen, and a box with her smiling

illustration inside. The price is 17,280 yen (about 156 US dollars) and its scheduled shipping date

Jigen Becomes Lupin's Strongest Enemy in The 26th TV Special "Lupin The Third: Goodbye Partner"

The official website for Nihon TV's special programming block Kinyo Roadshow! announced today that the Lupin The Third anime series' 26th TV special titled Lupin The Third: Goodbye Partner is set to be aired on January 25, 2019, one week after the 25th special Italian Game (2016). It is the first all-new TV special in six years since the 24th special Princess of the Breeze - Hidden City in the Sky (2013), because Italian Game was a spin-off to the TV anime fourth season reusing footage from its three episodes.  

 

The theme of the 26th special's story written by Takehiko Hata (Detective Conan: Shinichi Kudo's Written Challenge) is "Jigen's betrayal." Daisuke Jigen, who has been Lupin's best partner for a long time, becomes Lupin's enemy and tries to kill him for a treasure. Meanwhile, Goemon Ishikawa can't forgive Jigen's betrayal and decides to takes Lupin's side with great anger. 

  

Jun Kawagoe (Mazinkaizer SKL, Cyborg 009 vs Devilman), who directed the 15th TV special Otakara

Henkyaku Dai-sakusen!! (Great Operation: Return the Treasure) in August 2003, returns to the director

chair. Of course the franchise's long-time collaborator Yuji Ohno provides soundtrack music, TMS

Entertainment works on anime production.

 

And all of the main voice cast, including 85-year-old Kiyoshi Kobayashi as Jigen, are set to return. 

 

 

 

It is also confirmed that Lupin wears black jacket in the latest TV special, instead of green, red, pink,

PreCure Miracle Universe Film Set for Release on March 16, 2019

Toei announced today that PreCure Miracle Universe, the next 26th feature film of Toei Animation's

PreCure anime franchise is set to be released in Japan on March 16, 2019, and opened the film's

official website with a title logo.


According to Movie NataliePreCure Miracle Universe is directed by Yukio Kaizawa, who served as

co-series director for the 14th TV series Kirakira PreCure a la Mode (2017-2018) and directed "Cure

Flora to Itazura Kagami" (Cure Flora and the Vain Mirror), one of the three episodes in Go! Princess

Precure the Movie: Go! Go!! Splendid Triple Feature!!! (2015). Isao Murayama, the series composition

writer for the 13th TV series Maho Girls PreCure! (2016-2017), provides a screenplay.

 

The story of the film is set in space, and reveals the secret of "Miracle Light" that has been given to

the PreCure movie audience (only children) to cheer up the PreCure girls during the screening.

 

 

In addition, following PreCure Miracle Universe, the franchise's 27th film featuring the membes of the

next 16th TV series Star☆Twinkle PreCure, which is set to premiere in Japan in early spring next year,

is already scheduled to be released in the fall of 2019.

Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh TV Anime Kicks Offs with 1 Hour Premiere

The Japanese broadcast schedule has been revealed for Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh (known in Japan as Boogiepop wa Warawanai), an upcoming TV anime based on the supernatural light novels written by Kouhei Kadano and illustrated by Kouji Ogata about a string of strange events and sudden disappearances that plague the teenage population of a modern Japanese city.

 

 

Boogie Doesn't Laugh will broadcast in Japan according to the following schedule:

 

  • AT-X: every Friday during the 21:00 time slot beginning on January 04, 2019.
  • Tokyo MX: every Friday during the 22:00 time slot beginning on January 04, 2019.
  • TV Aichi: every Friday during the 27:05 time slot beginning on January 11, 2019.
  • KBS Kyoto: every Friday during the 24:30 time slot beginning on January 04, 2019. (The initial broadcast will be at 24:00 to accomodate the 1 hour special premiere.)
  • Sun TV: every Friday during the 24:30 time slot beginning on January 04, 2019. (The initial broadcast will be at 24:00 to accomodate the 1 hour special premiere.)
  • BS11: every Friday during the 23:00 time slot beginning on January 04, 2019.

 

The initial broadcast of Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh will be a special, hour-long event that includes both the first and second episode of the series. The normal schedule of one episode per week will resume after that. Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh will also be digitally distributed in Japan on AbemaTV.

 

 

The original Boogiepop light novels are published in Japan by ASCII Media Works, an English language versions are also available from Seven Seas Entertainment, who describe the story as follows:

There is an urban legend that children tell about a shinigami that can release people from the pain they are suffering. This “Angel of Death” has a name–Boogiepop. And the legends are true. Boogiepop is real.

The Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh TV anime is directed by Shingo Natsume and features animation by MADHOUSE. The series has previously been adapted into the 2000 live-action film, Boogiepop and Others, which features direction by Ryu Kaneda, and also into the 2000 TV anime, Boogiepop Phantom, which features direction by Takashi Watanabe and animation production by MADHOUSE.

today started streaming a 30-second teaser trailer for its next 23rd film Konjyou no Fist/The Fist of Blue

Sapphire featuring the hand-to-hand battle between Kaito Kid and Makoto Kyogoku, "the strongest karate

fighter" who makes his first appearance in the film series. Meanwhile, Conan Edogawa, who is forced to

disguise by Kid, introduces himself as "Arthur Hirai" to Ran, who has also visited Singapore.

 

Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire is set to be released in Japan on April 12, 2019.

The story of The Fist of Prussian Blue is set in Singapore, the first foreign country to be featured in the

film series, and revolves around the world's biggest jewel "Blue Sapphire" which is said to have sunk to

the bottom of the sea in the end of the 19th century. Conan and his destined rival Kaito Kid are getting

involved in a murder incident occurred at Marina Bay Sands (an integrated resort hotel in Singapore)

and a great conspiracy in the country. Makoto Kyogoku appears as a key person who tries to interrupt

Kid's attempt to steal Blue Sapphire. The film follows the three-way battle among Kid, Kyogoku, and

Conan who is forcibly brought to Singapore by Kid.
