Crunchyroll Adds "Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie" to Catalog!

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Grab some quarters and get ready to shout “Hadouken!” That 1994 anime classic known as Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie begins streaming on Crunchyroll today, both subbed and dubbed, for members in the USA and Canada!

About Street Fighter II The Animated Movie

Get your quarters ready, because the world's top fighters are about to go head to head in this explosive animated adaptation of the classic Street Fighter II arcade game! M. Bison's plan to crush those who would oppose his organization, Shadowloo, is simple: brainwash the strongest martial artists around with his dreaded psycho power, and turn them into living weapons! To stop him, Interpol agent Chun-Li must team up with Major Guile of the United States Air Force, but that's no small feat.

They'll have to put aside their differences and learn to work together, and fast. Bison is closing in on Ryu, a traveling vagabond said to be the best fighter in the world. Fortunately (or not), Ryu is a hard man to find, but the same can't be said of his eternal rival, Ken. And it might just be through Ken that Bison will get what he wants! Can the World Warriors beat Bison to the punch?

And here’s a little bonus tune to help get you in the mood (I’m actually singing it right now as I write this…)

Classroom Metrics - Real World Case Study for Games in Schools - Extra Credits

by Extra Credits

Reach out to your school district with Filament Games's Implementation Guide: http://bit.ly/29EKVQB
We believe games can be a great teaching tool, but we need data to study that assumption in an actual classroom setting. The team at Filament Games partnered with a Sun Prairie School District teacher named Mary Headington to analyze exactly that. (---More below)

___________

We teamed up with Filament Games, a company that creates educational games for the classroom, to share the results of a study they did about using games in the classroom. The current educational environment begs for tools like games, which help students develop the 21st Century skills and can be easily integrated in 1-on-1 programs, the Maker movement, project-based learning, and personalized learning environments. Games prepare students for a working world that needs teamwork, understanding of technology and self-motivation. But when we think about games in class, we have to think about teachers first, because they're the ones who develop the curriculum and interact with students. Filament Games implemented metrics programs that allowed teachers to see what parts of the lesson plan students left which students struggling. That set the stage perfectly for them to conduct a study on the impact of games in the classroom. They partnered with the Sun Praisie School District in Wisconsin and worked directly with a teacher named Mary Headington who used their game Planet Mechanic, a sandbox system that allows students to play with planets and solar systems, in her classroom. Mary had all her students take a pre-assessment test on the subject, then split them into three sections: 1) only play the game, 2) only receive traditional teaching from Mary, and 3) play the game and receive teaching from Mary. When they took their post-assessment test, students in the third group showed by far the greatest improvement, with a 10% grade increase on average. Meanwhile, students in the first group barely showed any improvement at all. Guidance from a skilled teacher makes all the difference, for while a learning game can amplify engagement, investment, and retention, it's the teacher who guides the learning process and acts as a force multiplier to increase the effectiveness of the lesson.

"One-Punch Man" and "Showa 1953-1989: A History of Japan" Nominated For Comic Industry's Harvey Award

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

This week, the comic industry's Harvey Awards have announced their 2016 nominee ballot. Named for Mad Magazine's legendary Harvey Kurtzman, the awards are distinguished by being voted on exclusively by Comic-Book creators, those who write, draw, ink, color, letter, design, edit, or are otherwise professionally involved in the creative aspect of comics, online or in print.

In its Best American Edition of Foreign Material category, Viz's release of One and Yusuke Murata's One-Punch Man and Drawn & Quarterly's release of Shigeru Mizuki's Showa 1953-1989: A History of Japan are up against Corto Maltese: Beyond The Windy Isles by Hugo Pratt, from IDW Publishing, The Realist by Asaf Hanuka, from Archaia/BOOM! Studios and Two Brothers, by Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon from Dark Horse Books.

Reaction to nominee ballet has featured some controversy in that comics by the publisher Valiant, which dominated the selection last year, this time took 35% of the nominations.

The awards will be presented September 3rd, during Baltimore Comic-Con.

Attack on Titan was honored in 2014, but manga was shut down in 2015.

Preview Teases Shoji Kawamori's "THE NEXT" Anime Project

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Last weekend, Anime Expo offered a look at THE NEXT, a new project from anime creator/director/writer/mecha designer Shoji Kawamori (Macross, Aquarion, Vision of Escaflowne) planned for a 2017-2018 anime production. After its event presentation, a teaser was posted online.

Destruction, Destruction, Destruction and—Creation!
Exceptionally cool and intensely hot!
A breaking-the-limit hybrid action story!

The journey to end war using songs instead of weapons which I depicted in “The Super Dimension Fortress MACROSS,” the mind control and AI losing control which I depicted in “MACROSS Plus,” the relation between human and destiny which I depicted in “The Vision of Escaflowne,” the tie between heart, body and soul which I depicted in “Aquarion” series, and the aggregate of life form and the emotional link with the earth which I depicted in “MACROSS Frontier”...

When I worked on these works, the depicted themes were pies in the air, but now they have gradually become realty in realistic shapes.
AI has been widely used in our daily life, and autonomous cars will become more common in a few years. Humanoid robots are not rare anymore, and prolonging life by using biotechnology is no longer a pipe dream.
The boundary between developed technologies and human beings is becoming obscure, and the time when we have to seek the meaning of mankind’s existence is coming before long.

What are Human Beings—?
Joy, Anger, Sorrow, Feeling, and Love. What is the power of “Emotion” that distinguishes human and machines?

What I want to depict in this work is the potential humans have. The rapid biological evolution, just like “Cambrian Explosion,” is caused by one incident. This incident turns into the genesis of a new jostle for supremacy. The influence of the evolution goes beyond biological framework and spreads to various kinds of materials and technologies. The era of massive evolution involving diverse existences, such as human, machines and biotechnologies, is coming.

Who is going to survive? Human, or other existence—

The main characters who are forced to be involved with a war for existence of species grope for ways to survive by crossing the boundaries of differences in ideas and species. Since they live in such a hard time, the real potential humans have might reveal. I want to pin such hope in the story.

Organic compounds and inorganic compounds, light and darkness, life and death… The intersection of two completely opposite elements often prompts signs of new potentials. I am going to challenge to create a piece of entertainment that no one has ever seen by combining the “coolest” forefront technologies and the drive of human’s burning souls, just like how the species evolved.

Shoji Kawamori June 30th, 2016.

"Nakayoshi" Latest Issue Sold Out Thanks to "Cardcaptor Sakura" Manga New Series

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

It has been confirmed that the July 2016 issue of Kodansha's monthly shoujo manga magazine Nakayoshi was sold out at stores only in a week from its release day in Japan, June 2. This is the first time in three years and four months for the magazine since its March 2013 issue that came with the popular "Manga Artist Set." The magazine's print circulation during January to March 2016 was 105,500 copies.

According to the publisher, the two biggest reasons for the huge sales were the issue's bonus item "Statio Set" (stationary set), and the return of CLAMP's internationally popular manga series Cardcaptor Sakura with its new "Clear Card" arc. The magical girl manga series celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and its new anime project was also announced in the issue.

"Futari wa PreCure Splash Star" Novel to be Published in 2017

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Answering to a fan's question about the series' 10th anniversary plan, the official Twitter of Kodansha's Character Bunko imprint confirmed yesterday that a novel adaptation of the 3rd PreCure TV series Futari wa PreCure Splash Star is now in the works and scheduled to be published in 2017. In addition, the previously announced two novel adaptations of the 8th series Suite PreCure♪ (2011-2012) and the 9th Smile PreCure! (2012-2013) will be available later this year.

The imprint has published three PreCure novels so far, based on the 1st series Futari wa PreCure (2004-

2005), 6th Fresh PreCure! (2009-2010) and 7th HeartCatch PreCure! (2010-2011). It has not been confirmed

that the Splash Star novel will be a retelling of the TV anime story like Futari wa PreCure and HeartCatch

or a sequel to it like Fresh

Futari wa PreCure Splash Star was originally aired for 49 episodes in Japan from February 2006 to January

2007. Though achieving moderate commercial success compared to its predecessor, it has been considered

as one of the most critically acclaimed series in the 12 years history of the PreCure franchise.
