Don't Let Summer End Without Checking Out "Legend of the Galactic Heroes Tactics" Swimsuit Manservice

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

This year, DMM, of KanColle and Touken Ranbou fame, launched a browser strategy game based on Yoshiki Tanaka's cult sci-fi war epic Legend of Galactic Heroes. And, this summer, LoGH: Tactics has added the Battle of Astarte and featured events focused on Wolfgang Mittermeyer and Jean Robert Lapp.

Maybe a bit incongruously, the game has also featured special swimsuit characters in August! First Karl Gustav Kempff and Bagdash and then Olivier Poplin and Fritz Joseph Bittenfeld.

The first two novels have been released by Viz's Haikasoru sci-fi prose label. The anime adaptation has been licensed by Sentai Filmworks.

"Slayers" Illustrator's Fake Autographed Colored Paper Sold at Japanese Yahoo Auction

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Japanese illustrator/manga artist Rui Araizumi reported on his official Twitter on August 16 that a fake autographed colored paper based on his illustration of Lina Inverse from Slayers had been sold at Japanese Yahoo Auction since last Friday. He has been working as the official illustrator for Hajime Kanzaka's Slayers light novel series since 1989.

The exhibitor says that he/she picked up the item without any certificate in an auction in the past five years, so he/she has no responsibility or guarantee for its authenticity. The person has decided to stop collecting colored papers anymore and wants to sell all of his/her collection. According to Araizumi, the fake copied his Lina illustration that was drawn for Starchild and Pasela's collaboration cafe back in February 2013.

But, despite of his tweet and his fans' reports to Yahoo Japan, the auction was held as scheduled till

yesterday, and the fake was eventually sold for 29,500 yen (about 295 US dollars).

The most important skill for a game designer is understanding the fantasy or player experience their game wants to deliver. Push vs. Pull: Thoughts on the Attraction of Characters

by sdshamshel
Alainmendez

Part of me is now mulling over the idea that Saber is a combination of a push and a pull character.

Ume_Shiraume

I’m generally not a fan of yandere characters, but I feel that I can understand why some people love them.

In a lot of my favorite characters there is a kind of intensity that emanates from them. Whether it’s Ogiue from Genshiken‘s withering stare, or Urabe Mikoto’s eccentric behavior in Mysterious Girlfriend X, it’s like their very beings pierce my soul and linger there for a while.

From there, it’s a hop, skip, and jump towards tsundere, and then eventually yandere as well. In other words, yandere characters exist on a spectrum where powerful emotions (sexual or otherwise) are valued, and their feelings are so overwhelming that it warps their minds. “Deep love” they call it.

This intensity has gotten me to think more broadly, past the typical labels, such as yandere, genki girl, Kansai native, etc. What I’m beginning to form is a theory of character attraction that takes a lot of these categories and places them into two distinctions: “push characters” and “pull characters.”

houkagoplaymaniax-cover

Push characters are like many of the ones stated above. It is as if the characters’ attitudes, visual look, and other qualities invade your space. They pierce and break down the barriers in your heart. Kurosaki Rendou, creator of Houkago Play and other racy titles, specializes in this type of character for both guys and girls. Akashi from Kuroko’s Basketball is also what I’d call a “push character.” They can perhaps be called aggressive characters as well, but I don’t think that it fits entirely neatly. Rather, in shounen terms, it’s more like they’re the “strong fists” of Rock Lee from Naruto or Raoh from Fist of the North Star.

teppei-smile

Pull characters, then, are more like the “gentle fists” of Hyuuga Hinata (Naruto) or Toki (Fist of the North Star). Rather than striking actively, their auras are passive and receptive. It is as if they have a gravity or magnetism that draws you to them. Softer, kinder characters would fall into this category, such as Daidouji Tomoyo from Cardcaptor Sakura, Maetel from Galaxy Express 999, or Teppei from Kuroko’s Basketball. It’s as if their warmth envelops your being.

Now there are a few aspects I’m thinking through as I bring out this half-formed way of considering characters. The first is that, many characters probably don’t fall into one category or the other. Sort of like a Myer-Briggs personality test, the “lesser” quality still exists. For example, I’d consider Koizumi Hanayo from Love Live! to be a “pull character” because of her typically shy personality, but the excitement of her two main loves—rice and idols—is enough to transform her into a “push character.”

hanayo-glare

Second, perhaps this distinction is actually entirely subjective, and one person’s “push character” is another person’s “pull character.” Does this render the terms meaningless, or is it more like moe where a broader understanding exists but the minutiae can get incredibly personal?

Lastly, to what extent do these terms match up with the idea of “seme” and “uke” characters in BL. Would “push characters” be those who tend to be seme, while “pull characters” are more commonly uke? If that’s the case, could this be a way to translate those terms to other types of relationships, such as heterosexual, yuri, or whatever other combinations can exist?

Nozomi Entertainment To Release "Turn A Gundam" On Blu-ray

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

After releasing the series on DVD in North America for the first time last June, Right Stuf's Nozomi Entertainment, in agreement with Sunrise, will now be releasing Turn A Gundam on Blu-ray, with collections planned for 2017.

Prior to the currently running G-Reco, the last TV Gundam directed by series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino was Sunrise's 1999-2000 TV anime∀ Gundam (Turn A Gundam), which brought in futurist Syd Mead, Yoko Kanno and Capcom's Akira Yasuda (also returning for G-Reco) for a story in which nations with World War I level technology unearth mobile suits and use them in a war against a human colony from the moon.

For 2000 years, a separate race of humanity has lived on the moon. Known as "the Moonrace," their technology is leaps and bounds beyond those that stayed behind on the Earth's surface. Now seeking to return to their original home, the Moonrace send three teenagers - Loran, Keith, and Fran - down to Earth on a reconnaissance mission to test the viability of its environment.

After spending a year on Earth, Loran has become good friends with Sochie and Kihel, daughters of the prestigious Heim family, and he looks forward to fully integrating into Earth society. But before Loran gets the chance to make his report, the Moonrace launch a surprise attack. Earth's primitive airplanes are no match for the superior power of the Moonrace's mobile suits. However, in the midst of the initial attack, Loran and Sochie uncover a long-forgotten relic: a white mobile suit. As a Moonrace, Loran is quickly able to grasp the basics of piloting it, but by doing so, he inadvertently places himself in the middle of a war.
