Seminal Light Novel Hit "Boogiepop" Gets Digital English Release

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

The Boogiepop horror series, written by Kouhei Kadono and illustrated by Kouji Ogata, weren't the first light novels. Kaoru Kurimoto's Guin Saga and The Vampire Hunter D series by Hideyuki Kikuchi were more influential in establishing the form. But, the million-copy selling Boogiepop gets plenty of credit for igniting the modern light novel trend.  Seven Seas released the series in print in 2006, and have now brought it back in a digital edition.

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

In 1980, right after the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Yoshiyuki "Kill 'em All" Tomino returned with another harsh mecha/sci-fi anime, Space Runaway Ideon. Finally, this is getting North America distribution with HIDIVE picking up the series to stream starting Thursday, November 9, 2017.  New episodes will be added every Thursday at 18:00 UTC.

They describe the series

In the year 2300, mankind has begun colonizing planets around the Andromeda Galaxy. While doing so, they come to discover the mysterious remains of the Ideon, a godlike mecha. During the restoration process, the Ideon is unable to be activated until a humanoid alien race comes to the planet. When Cosmo Yuki climbs aboard, the Ideon activates suddenly which fends off the attack. Will Yuki be able to save the universe or will it meet its doom?

The Haikyu!! dub has also been announced.

Starting November 14, HIDIVE members will be able to stream new episodes of Haikyu! every Tuesday at 18:00 UTC.

They describe the volleyball series

Hinata may be small, but he more than makes up for it with willpower! Hoping to become the next big name in volleyball, Hinata takes to the court in middle school only to be shot down in his first match by “King of the Court” Tobio Kageyama. Now Hinata is in high school, and he’s more determined than ever to join the school’s team and prove his worth! But when Kageyama resurfaces as a teammate, they will have to learn to play together if they want to make it to the championship.

Japan Box Office: "Kirakira PreCure" Film Beats "Blade Runner 2049"

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

According to the box office report for the weekend of October 28-29, "Eiga Kirakira PreCure a la Mode: Paritto! Omoide no Mille-feuille" (Kirakira PreCure a la Mode The Movie: Paris and The Memorable Mille-feuille), the feature film based on the ongoing 14th PreCure TV series, earned a very good 193,101,900 yen on 170,659 admissions and became the top-grossing film of the weekend, topping the $150 million-budget Blade Runner 2049 in the second.

This is the second time for a PreCure feature film to make a first place debut at the Japanese box office. The only predecessor was Eiga Smile PreCure!: Ehon no Naka wa Minna Chiguhagu! (Smile PreCure! the Movie: Big Mismatch in a Picture Book!) released in October 2012 and made 192,792,900 yen from the 173,283 ticket sales in its debut weekend.

The first weekend gross of the Kirakira PreCure film was 119.4% of that of last fall's Eiga Mahou Tsukai

PreCure!: Kiseki no Henshin! Cure Mifurun! (Mahou Girls PreCure! the Movie: The Miraculous Transformation!

Cure Mofurun!). Judging from the impressive opening weekend result, the 23rd PreCure film is expected

to end its domestic run with around one billion yen and become one of the top-earning films in the history

of the 14-year-old franchise.
