Amazon Closes Anime Strike Subscription Streaming Service

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

It was almost a year ago when Amazon first launched Anime Strike, a streaming service that was available for $4.99 per month on top of an existing Amazon Prime membership. The brief foray into an anime-focused Amazon channel has officially come to an end, though, and its curated catalog has been moved into Prime Video.

Word of Anime Strike's closure comes from Lauren Orsini's report over at the Forbes blog, which includes confirmation from an Amazon spokesperson. According to the source, both Anime Strike and the Bollywood-centric sister channel Heera have both shuffled their content into Prime. Here's what they had to say about it:

"We have decided to move the curated catalogs of Anime Strike and Heera into Prime Video so that more customers can enjoy this content as part of their Prime membership."

I just hopped over to Prime Video myself to confirm, and yep, shows like Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul no longer have a Strike banner, so you can go ahead and watch all these shows if you have a Prime account.

"Mob Psycho 100" Manga to End This Friday

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

It's almost time to bid a fond farewell to another manga series. This time it's One-Punch Man creator ONE's Mob Psycho 100, which is officially coming to an end this week. ONE revealed as much today on Twitter, stating that the next chapter, which hits Shogakukan's Manga ONE app on Friday, will be the last.

Mob Psycho 100 originally launched in 2012, and has since hit over 100 chapters and 15 compiled volumes. BONES' TV anime adaptation—directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa (Death Parade) and written by Hiroshi Seko (Seraph of the End, Ajin)—debuted as part of summer 2016's anime season.

The manga has yet to make its way over to the west, but you can, and definitely should, watch the anime. Here's how Crunchyroll describes it:

Kageyama Shigeo, a.k.a. "Mob," is a boy who has trouble expressing himself, but who happens to be a powerful esper. Mob is determined to live a normal life and keeps his ESP suppressed, but when his emotions surge to a level of 100%, something terrible happens to him! As he's surrounded by false espers, evil spirits, and mysterious organizations, what will Mob think? What choices will he make? The anime based on the original story by ONE, the idol of the webcomic world and creator of One-Punch Man, is coming your way with animation by leading animation studio Bones!

Newly-Drawn Manga to be Included in "After War Gundam X" Blu-ray Box

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Bandai Visual is scheduled to release an eight-disc Blu-ray box set of Sunrise's 1996 TV anime Kidou Shinseiki Gundam X/After War Gundam X in Japan on March 23, 2018, and it is confirmed that a newly drawn manga "Anata to, Issho nara" (If I am with you) supervised by the anime's original director Shinji Takamatsu will be also included as one of its bonus materials.

The story is set just after the TV anime's final 39th episode, telling the beginning of the protagonist Garrod Ran and the main heroine Tiffa Adill's new journey. The TV anime's series composition writer Hiroyuki Kawasaki provides the sequel story, and Kouichi Tokita, who worked on many comicalizations of the Gundam series, including the original Gundam X TV series, serves as illustrator.

The third non-UC Gundam TV series was aired for 39 episodes from April to December of 1996, following

Mobile Fighter G Gundam (1994-1995) and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (1996). It was originally planned a

full one-year run with around 50 episodes as with the previous two, but due to poor ratings and bad sales

of its plastic models, it was shortened to 39 episodes.

The National Art Center, Tokyo to Hold "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" 30th Anniversary Exhibition Next Summer

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

The National Art Center, Tokyo, the largest national museum in Japan, will hold a special event "Hirohiko Araki Jojo Exhibition: Ripples of The Adventure" in the summer of 2018. The exhibition will be held as the last project for the 30th anniversary of Hirohiko Araki's long-running fantasy action manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The manga started its serialization in 1987 and has printed over 100 million copies in Japan.

This the second time for the prestigious national art facility to hold a personal exhibition for a Japanese

manga artist since Osamu "God of Manga" Tezuka 28 years ago. In addition to Araki's original manga

works, various technologies will be used for the largest-scale displays in the history of the Jojo manga series.

Araki says, "It is a very great honor for me to show the compilation of Jojo's 30th anniversary to everyone

at the honorary place. At the same time, I am also feeling nervous. What I have tried to draw in the Jojo

series is 'Growth of the Spirits' through all the phenomena in this universe and the battles between the

good and evil. This exhibition will feature images of the characters and their guardian gods gathering

together at the same time and place. In addition, I am planning to offer some new drawings. Please look

forward to the next summer."
