"Detective Conan" Dominates Japan's Box Office for Four Consecutive Weeks

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

As expected, Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer delivered a first place finish in Japan's weekend box office for four consecutive weeks since its release of April 13. The 22nd Conan film earned an impressive 552 million yen from the 418,000 ticket sales in its fourth weekend, becoming the box office king of Japan's Golden Week Holiday. Both its revenue and ticket sales surpassed those of Walt Disney's latest super hero assemble film Avengers: Infinity War in its second weekend (408 million yen/266,000 tickets).

Zero the Enforcer has already made a massive 6.2 billion yen on 4.79 million admissions from its four-week domestic run, and is confirmed as the most successful animation film in this spring season in Japan, beating other strong competitors, including The Boss Baby (3.3 billion yen), Coco (4.7 billion yen), and Crayon Shin-chan Burst Serving! Kung Fu Boys ~Ramen Rebellion~ (1.4 billion yen).

If this momentum continues, which is highly likely, Zero the Enforcer is expected to become the top-

grossing film in the 22-year-old anime franchise by the middle of this month, surpassing the 21st film

Crimson Love Letter (2017/6.87 billion yen) and the 20th film Pure Black Nightmare (2016/6.33 billion).

Japan Box Office: "Detective Conan" Sells More Tickets than "Avengers: Infinity War" Even in Its Third Weekend

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer is ruling Japan's box office even in its third weekend. The 22nd Conan feature film sold an impressive 453,000 tickets in the weekend of April 28-29, which was 16,000 more than Avengers: Infinity War did in its opening weekend in Japan.

After breaking the franchise's opening weekend record, Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer has collected 4.8 billion yen on 3.74 million admissions from its three-week domestic run. It has already become the third top-grossing film in the franchise, behind only the 21st film Crimson Love Letter (2017/6.87 billion yen) and the 20th film Pure Black Nightmare (2016/6.33 billion).

Despite its various promotional efforts, including the one collaborating with the My Hero Academia characters, Walt Disney's third Avengers flick Avengers: Infinity War was not able to make much impact in Japan. The latest superhero assemble film earned a bit disappointing 672 million yen from

the 437,000 tickets sales in its opening weekend, which was 16.4% down from that of Avengers: Age

of Ultron in 2015.

"Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer" Continues to Dominate Japan's Box Office, Beating "Ready Player One"

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

After the franchise's record-breaking opening weekend, Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer is continuing to dominate Japan's box office and again finished in first place in its second week of release with an astonishing 820 million yen, beating Steven Spielberg's latest sci-fi action adventure Ready Player One, which made 367 million yen in its opening weekend in Japan.

The 22nd Conan feature film has already earned 3.23 billion yen from its first ten days, which is a faster pace than The Crimson Love Letter, the franchise's 21st and top grossing-film released last year that made 2.75 billion yen in its first two weeks. There is no doubt that Zero the Enforcer will break the franchise's box office record soon.

Meanwhile, Kyoto Animation's newly-produced anime film Liz and the Blue Bird (73 screens) failed to rank in the top 10 and finished in 11th place in its opening weekend. The sequel/spin-off film is based

on the two-part novel Sound! Euphonium: Kitauji High School's Turbulent Second Movement published

in August and October 2017.
