Even if you've never been to New Orleans, you probably have a picture of it in your mind: brass bands marching through narrow streets, brightly colored Creole cottages, Mardi Gras beads raining down from the sky, and of course the food: roast beef po' boys, gleaming platters of oysters, bowls of steaming gumbo, and fat muffuletta sandwiches.

That was the picture in my mind anyway when I moved to New Orleans in 2014, having never visited before. I found that New Orleans, to be sure — it's the one most visitors come here to see — but as a local I also came to know a less raucous (but no less delicious) side of the city, full of neighborly warmth and relaxed charm.

In our Bite-Sized Guide to New Orleans, we'll offer a glimpse of the city everyone knows and loves — but it's in this other, less travelled New Orleans that we will be spending most of our time, strolling slowly under the oak trees, sipping strong iced coffee, and chatting with some New Orleanians about what they love about this place. It's going to be fun, y'all.

I Have A Theory

As I mentioned yesterday, Iowa seldom determines New Hampshire - quite the opposite, if anything. But I can't think of an Iowa winner who's gotten less bump or media fawning or anything from an Iowa win than Ted Cruz, especially an upset win. Occam's Razor, everybody hates Ted Cruz. But now there's a poll showing his support collapsing in New Hampshire - so total anti-bump. But I wonder if there's something more to it.

Bon Iver Debut Two New Songs at Eaux Claires Music Festival

This weekend saw the launch of the inaugural Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival, a two-day festival helmed by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and the National's Aaron Dessner, held in Vernon's hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Friday night saw Vernon and Sufjan Stevens hop onstage with the National, and last night, during Bon Iver's headline set, Vernon debuted a pair of new songs. Watch fan footage below.
