National Media and Assorted Blue Checkmarks Now Realizing that Ben Simmons is a Loser

by Kevin Kinkead
Alecbugg

Just feed it to my veins

Ben Simmons was ruled OUT for Game 4 of the Nets/Celtics series with Boston up 3-0. That’s a bummer. Had he played, he could have become the first player in NBA history to be eliminated from the playoffs in two consecutive games.

We tried to be fair to Simmons during his Sixers tenure, which was tough. He did a lot of excellent things for the team, but never improved his offensive game and then forced a trade because he’s a soft crybaby quitter. Now it seems like the blue checkmarks, many of whom blamed Philadelphia fans for running him out of town, are now realizing this.

Reggie Miller

Perk

Bill Simmons

Colin Cowturd

Pat McAfee

Damien Woody

Tierney from WFAN

(Tierney isn’t really national media but whatever, he’s a non-Philly blue checkmark)

Zach Harper

Kevin Clark

The one and only Iron Sheik

It’s funny to watch it all unfold. Sixers fans showed Ben a ton of support during the early part of his career. Yes, he was a polarizing player because of the offensive game/lack of shooting thing, but they were fair before they were ever unfair. When he asked out, a lot of doofus blue checkmarks blamed Philly fans for “running him out of town” or whatever that take was, and now they are realizing that Ben is a jabroni and it wasn’t anything that Philadelphia did to him.

Good morning.

EDIT –

Missed one:

This franchise Really tanked itself, thanks a lot Johnny Depp

Take a second and reflect: How wild is it that there’s a movie in theaters right now whose basic premise is “Jude Law and Mads Mikkelson are exes waging a clandestine magical war to work out the baggage of their relationship,” and yet somehow, no one actually seems to give a shit?

Charmingly old-fashioned storytelling sensibilities! Extremely seductive indeed! Guns! Muscles! Confusion! I'm in!

Michael Bay’s undeniable technical proficiency—and to action-movie fans, his charmingly old-fashioned storytelling sensibilities—can be extremely seductive, at least when it comes to luring moviegoers into theaters. More often than not, however, those elements produce some combination of a sugar hangover and full-on…

Apple TV Plus orders a second season of Severance

by Sam Barsanti

Hmm I was really hoping this would just stay a one series open/closed story. How much closure are we gonna get in these last two eps?

Apple TV+’s new sci-fi/horror/drama/thriller series Severance came at a perfect time, with many Americans reconsidering their jobs and the crushing misery that every job inevitably turns into, as the series offered a chilling glimpse into a world where people take desperate measures in order to make their work life…

The Sixers Trolled the Knicks With a Well-Placed “Bing Bong”

by Kyle Pagan
Alecbugg

The bing bong troll is just fantastic.

BING BONG! –

“Bing bong” became this New York sports catch phrase. It’s the sound the NYC subway doors make when they’re closing.

Anyway, whomever is in charge of playing the song after a win deserves a fat raise. The Bing Bong soundbite before the crowd breaks into 10, 9, 8, 76ers. That’s Joel Embiid final boss-level trolling right there. Everyone was on their game yesterday. The Sixers arena staff. The 2nd half Sixers. Even Doc’s rotations didn’t make me want to pull my hair out. The crowd last night though brought it! You had two of the hottest girls in Philly hanging out:

Matt Cord set the tone early:

Hey Washington Commies, that’s how you build a railing with proper structural support:

Embiid’s dad was there with the 6th Man and Meek Mill. I’ve never met a dad who is ready for a picture on the first try:

via 76ersixthman IG

Meek’s sinking 35 footers from his seats:

Sixers fans are creating a “movie” like atmosphere for James Harden:

The Sixers are firing on all cylinders right now. Let’s go get a fucking Larry!

Brad Pitt punches his ticket on the assassin express in Bullet Train trailer

by Savannah Olson

Two things, this looks rad and I still don't understand why trailers start with a trailer for the trailer and I will hate it forever.

Commutes are already killer enough, so why not try a sleek bullet train full of bloodthirsty assassins? That seems to be the sentiment in the trailer for Sony Pictures’ Bullet Train, a fresh action comedy starring Brad Pitt and directed by former stuntman turned action film aficionado David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Atomic

Derek “Godner” Bodner Leaving The Athletic

by Kevin Kinkead
Alecbugg

Time to cancel

Source?

Him:

Derek notes that Rich Hofmann is continuing with The Athletic, so the formerly three-man Sixers crew is down to one. It was originally Derek and Rich as full-time writers with Mike O’Connor contributing on a part-time basis. Mike moved over to RTRS in 2020 and writes articles on the podcast’s website.

Obviously there’s been a lot of recent news about The Athletic, which is exploring a sale. The site began in 2016 with a subscription-only model, and raised millions and millions of dollars through various rounds of fundraising. They expanded vigorously, so much so that you wondered who wasn’t joining The Athletic back in the day. But in recent years the whole thing has levelled off a bit, and in a recent Bloomberg article, Gerry Smith and Lucas Shaw write the following:

The San Francisco-based company, which is unprofitable and under growing pressure from investors to deliver a return, is currently exploring a sale, seeking a price of $600 million to $800 million, according to two people familiar with the matter. The New York Times did not reach a deal with the startup recently after crunching the numbers and assessing the value of The Athletic at less than $500 million, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private deliberations. Another reported suitor, the sports-betting company FanDuel, has also said it isn’t interested. (Disclosure: Bloomberg News previously had a subscription partnership with The Athletic, which is no longer active).

To date, The Athletic has raised nearly $140 million from a range of investors, including Comcast Ventures, Waverley Capital and Laurene Powell Jobs’ Emerson Collective. In October, The Information reported that The Athletic has enough cash to cover its needs for about the next eight months.

So they have to figure something out on the business side at The Athletic.

But anyway, Derek is a fantastic basketball mind, and I’m not just saying that because I sat next to him at the games. There’s a reason he got the “Godner” nickname, and he’ll have his pick of media outlets to work with, assuming he wants to continue in sports journalism. He was actually an information technology/computer guy before getting into writing. He had a gig at Philly Mag, and then Philly Mag got rid of all of their sports coverage for whatever dumb reason. So Derek went independent for a bit and then turned that into this most recent gig.

Stephen A Smith is Gonna Get JJ Redick Booted from First Take

by Kevin Kinkead
Alecbugg

I love this. Get him JJ!

Former Sixer JJ Redick recently retired from the NBA to pursue a broadcasting career. He’s been pretty good on ESPN so far. Refreshingly honest and educated. It’s almost as if he played 15 years in the league!

Here he is calling bullshit on Stephen A Smith (the second video clip is what we’re focused on, but watch the first one to add some context) –

lol

Redick sealed his fate. Stephen A is gonna get him kicked off the show, same way Max Kellerman got the boot.

Nice run for JJ on First Take, though. He’s just telling the truth. And Stephen A can’t handle the truth! He ordered the code red!

“You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall — you need me on that wall.”
