Happy 20th Anniversary To "Sakura Wars!"

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Happy anniversary to Sakura Wars, Red Entertainment and Sega's alt-history, steam-tech/psychic girl, mecha, musical, tactical RPG/visual novel - the original, hit Sega Saturn version of which was released in Japan on September 27th, 1996. In an interesting quirk of travels of Japanese media to the west, the TV anime and OVA got licensed by ADV Films, the movie by Pioneer/Geneon (later Funimation) and manga by Tokyopop, but it wasn't until the fifth entry, Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love, in 2010 that the game series was released in English.

Still, with Kōsuke Fujishima's designs and that theme song by Chisa Yokoyama & The Teikoku Kagekidan, if you were a fan of anime in the late 90s you knew Sakura Wars.

The anniversary was celebrated with Line stamps

A Chain Chronicle collaboration

And plans for a Chisa Yokoyama concert

Sakura Wars Creator Working On A New Title, Expected To Be Announced In Spring 2017

by Sato
Dsider

"The information comes from an interview with Geo Holdings Corporation CEO and President Yuzo Endo, so there’s a good chance that the original title will be one for smartphone by Geo Interactive, a subsidiary of Geo Holdings."

So yeah fuck that. Also the dude in the picture is making a face like, "I'm ready to make all the moneys!" so I guess that explains it.

It’s been revealed in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine that Oji Hiroi, known for creating Sakura Wars and Far East of Eden series, is currently working on a completely new and original title.

Overwatch characters, re-imagined as off-brand Halloween costumes.

by Nathan Grayson

Been watching these on twitter, haha

Overwatch characters, re-imagined as off-brand Halloween costumes. Artist Nina Matsumoto has been drawing characters like Tracer, Genji, and Reaper in the grand tradition of costume manufacturers trying to get around copyright laws. Who doesn’t love characters like “Futuristic Tea Time Cop” and “Blue Balls Zen Lover”?

by Heather Alexandra

"As long as you weren’t the unlucky sap who had to use that one Mad Catz controller"

Never was a truer statement made.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the Nintendo 64 in North America. A chiefly innovative console as games made the jump between 2-D and 3-D, the Nintendo 64's release was one of the most important gaming moments of all time.

That’s a lot of D.Va.

by Nathan Grayson
Dsider

You don't need to click through, dumb twitch autoplay warning. The gif gives you the gist of it.

That’s a lot of D.Va. Blizzard recently gave Overwatch’s D.Va an in-game stream overlay for her sitting emote, which GraphicFeedback recreated for their friend, streamer Hanaday. The result? D.Va streaming D.Va, who is, in turn, also streaming. Perhaps we’re all being streamed by larger, realer versions of ourselves. A chilling thought.

World Of Warcraft: Legion: The Kotaku Review

by Mike Fahey
Dsider

I've barely even touched the core stuff yet, but all these wonderful feelings have already come back. I never thought this day would come.

Over the course of the first five expansion packs, Blizzard has slowly evolved World of Warcraft into something very different than the MMO that launched back in 2004. The Legion expansion feels like an entirely new game.

Smash Bros. Player Shuts Down Heckler, Goes On To Win Tournament

by Ethan Gach

I fucking hate people etc.

On an autumn Sunday before a Patriot’s game, you won’t find Tom Brady coming through the front entrance to get onto the field. You won’t find him in any of Gillette Stadium’s public restrooms taking a leak at half time. In fact, unless you are part of a very small and select cadre of people, you probably won’t see him at all.

Hiro didn’t win the Shulla-bra VIII Smash 4 tournament in Japan earlier this morning. That honor went to Shuton who, playing as Olimar, was able to come back from an initial loss to convincingly triumph in the grand finals. Hiro did, however, get the consolation prize of completely disrespecting the tournament’s third-place finisher, Chanshu.

Smash Bros. Player's Sexual Consent Guide Ignites Debate In Community

by Cecilia D'Anastasio

The Super Smash Bros. community is having a conversation about sexual assault, whether they want to or not. Last week, that discussion came to a head when a female competitive Smash player published a guide attempting to educate the community around the famous Nintendo fighting game about consent. Now, the Smash community is debating whether sexual misconduct, recently an issue at Smash events, is tangential to the game that brought them together.

Steam's Digital Homicide Fiasco Is Valve's Fault

by Nathan Grayson on Steamed, shared by Nathan Grayson to Kotaku

It’s been a dramatic handful of days for Steam. Infamous shovelware developer Digital Homicide sued 100 Steam users for $18 million and subpoenaed Valve for their information, at which point Valve booted them and all their games from the service . The worst part? This was all painfully avoidable.

The actual important news here is you can customize that trainer so that she doesn't wear the chicken hat. Male trainer outfits still look dumb and boring.
