Following an announcement on Monday, voice actors within the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation

by Heather Alexandra
Dsider

Western games may be able to get through this with some finagling (because they're more likely to pick up scabs). Dubs of foreign games though, god help us. If you thought they couldn't get worse...

The indie scene may actually benefit during this time since the vast majority of those titles don't need voice. Honestly, I think people have gotten too spoiled on voiced lines, and agree that these guys aren't getting properly compensated for the demand, regardless of what I think of the quality of some of those performances.

Following an announcement on Monday, voice actors within the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists have begun their strike against certain video game employers as of 3:01 AM EST today. Kotaku has reached out to the involved parties.

A Powerful New World Of Warcraft Boss Hides In One Of Its Oldest Dungeons

by Mike Fahey
Dsider

Cool idea but for one of the worst instances in the entire game. You can imagine my cringing every time this guy said something positive about gnomes.

More players are dying in the depths of World of Warcaft’s Gnomeregan dungeon than there’ve been in years, thanks to the revelation of a ridiculously powerful new boss tucked away in its depths. Say hello to Endgineer Omegaplugg, and then goodbye very quickly.

Pokémon Sun and Moon's Pikachu Imposter Has A Heartbreaking Theme Song

by Patricia Hernandez

This thing is too hilarious. I can't believe how much I like the pokemon designs this generation.

It was sad enough to read about how Mimikyu dresses up like a popular Pokémon because it also wants to be loved. It’s another thing entirely to hear Mimikyu sing about its woes.

This Is Probably Why Half the Internet Shut Down Today [Updating]

by William Turton on Gizmodo, shared by Riley MacLeod to Kotaku

Twitter, Spotify and Reddit, and a huge swath of other websites were down or screwed up this morning. This was happening as hackers unleashed a large distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on the servers of Dyn, a major DNS host. It’s probably safe to assume that the two situations are related.

The Black Widow's First Kill Will Mess You Up

by Evan Narcisse on io9, shared by Riley MacLeod to Kotaku
Dsider

Pretty cool looking. But I didn't expect to see a young Conan O'Brien in this story, of all places.

Natasha Romanoff has been a superhero. She’s also been a spy. Right now, she’s somewhere in between the morality of those two poles. Before she was either of those, however, she was an assassin. This week’s new Black Widow comic shows the first time the young Natasha killed someone. It’s nasty.

Troy Baker Is Not In Persona 5

by Luke Plunkett
Dsider

Funny story, Troy Baker was the original dub voice of Kanji, but in all subsequent entries (including P4G) he was replaced by Matt Mercer, who actually managed to sound nearly identical. He and Laura Bailey gave the best dubs in P4 easily.

Troy Baker does voice work for almost every video game released on every platform made by every company. He was even in Persona 4. He will not, however, be in the English-language version of Persona 5.

Drama Over Music Video Inflames Argument About What Anime Is

by Cecilia D'Anastasio

So by this logic, Interstella 5555 would have been removed from here if the site had existed back that was released. *insert rant about why I don't participate in anime forums and never will*

Yesterday, acclaimed American electronic musician Porter Robinson released an anime. Shelter is the short and tender story of a girl living alone in virtual reality, rendered by Japanese animation studio A-1 Pictures. Over the last 24 hours, it has received overwhelming praise. And, after its swift removal from Reddit’s 420,000-strong anime subreddit, Shelter has also become the latest peg in the debate over what actually defines “anime”— a debate that has apparently resulted in death threats to /r/anime moderators.

The Japanese Military Recruits With Anime Girls

by Brian Ashcraft

Yeah, something about this seems problematic as far as the recruitment stuff goes.

"Her bust-waist-hip measurements were listed as a “national secret”"

Okay, that part's kind of funny though.

In the past, there was a tradition in the U.S. military to paint pin-ups on aircraft. Today, that tradition lives on in Japan. But there’s an important difference: they’re not cheesecake pin-ups. They’re anime girls, and they’re not only on aircrafts, but also recruitment posters.

Get A Load Of These Outlandish Westworld Fan Theories

by Patrick Redford on The Concourse, shared by Luke Plunkett to Kotaku

Spoilery stuff, so just for Al. There're some details I missed here that are interesting.

HBO’s Westworld is draped with the trappings of the horror, action adventure, Western, and horror genres, but it’s best understood as a mystery. The show doesn’t exactly have a coherent, unified plot so much as a tableau of vignettes and characters whose interconnectedness is only vaguely clear. The more that the show reveals about its setting, the less straightforward it all is.
