Amazing timelapse of massive 7-ft long Lego Serenity spaceship

by Tatiana Danger
Dsider

Haven't watched it yet, and am kind of afraid to because it'll probably just make me sad by the end.

Adrian Drake's Lego Firefly-class transport spaceship, "Serenity", is a 70,000-brick, 7-foot long, 135-lb masterpiece. Now, he's rebuilt the badass behemoth and filmed it for one epic timelapse. Filmed over 14 months, each image was taken at 60-second intervals. Watch how it soars.

Old Harry Potter Games Were Absurd

by Patricia Hernandez
Dsider

Okay, I feel a little better this morning now.

I never played any of the older Harry Potter games, and now, watching Criken2 play through the PlayStation version of Harry Potter and The Sorceror's Stone, I'm not sure if that is a mistake or not.

Sorry, That Crazy Stevie Wonder + Atari Poster Is Fake

Oh well

Sorry, That Crazy Stevie Wonder + Atari Poster Is Fake

As is often the way with the internet, a "historical" image magically emerged from the past today to spread all over the place. I've seen it on Facebook, I've seen it on Twitter, I was even emailed a copy. It's either hilarious or terrible, depending on your tastes, but your tastes are moot, because the poster is fake.

Child of Light: The Kotaku Review

by Kirk Hamilton
Dsider

It does hurt a little extra when games like this fail to fully succeed at their creative ambition, but thankfully overall it sounds like it's got the other two hallmarks: gorgeous aesthetics and a capable battle system. Games like this one and The Banner Saga demand my attention and support.

Child of Light: The Kotaku Review

What can men do against such reckless beauty, such wanton loveliness? How can a game so obviously gorgeous, so well-constructed, still tilt uneasily forward and stumble? And if a game reaches so hungrily for greatness that it trips over itself, is it enough that it reached at all?

Why Neglecting Math Can Be Hazardous To Your Life

by George Dvorsky
Dsider

It's one thing when kids complain about it; it's another when people adopt hating math as a MANTRA. Particularly in this country where more people place more faith in the Good Book than in a textbook.

Why Neglecting Math Can Be Hazardous To Your Life

Last year, more than 510,000 international students took part in survey focusing on mathematics. Of the 65 countries involved, the US ranked 36th — a poor result that points to the growing problem of innumeracy.

Right, so soon Star Wars will be in there too, and then we'll have just one giant blob of toys/games in the same formula. Honestly not looking forward to more of this style of kids' products, but I know they can't argue with the results (read: $$$).

That is most definitely a... collection of objects.

In all seriousness though, the actual function is admirable and well-done, even if the form is not.

Everything Wrong With Spider-Man 3 Is Why The Franchise Got A Reboot

by Mike Fahey
Dsider

I needed a refresher on just how horrific this movie really was. Although the one point I take issue with is them dismissing the idea of the symbiote in the first place. Come on guys, that isn't even close to the silliest origin story for a hero or villain.

Everything Wrong With Spider-Man 3 Is Why The Franchise Got A Reboot

When the final movie in the first Spider-Man trilogy changed Peter Parker's motivational motto from "With great power comes great responsibility" to "shit happens" was the perfect moment to call for a do-over. Let's see what other Cinema Sins Spider-Man 3 committed.

String Quartet Makes Smash Bros. Match Super-Classy

by Evan Narcisse
Dsider

Smash has always had, imo, the strongest renditions of every major Nintendo theme. Say what you will about Brawl, but it was the strongest musical showing yet.

Although, I can't say I'm keen on this performance of the Brawl theme being set up around a random FD match.

I don't know if I ever brought it up though, but despite my bitching about FD, I do love its theme. This is the Brawl version of it, it gets a bit garbled between loops but it has such a strong presence during any match there:

String Quartet Makes Smash Bros. Match Super-Classy

You expect to hear shouting, gasps and trash talk during a fighting game competition. But violins, viola and cello? Not so much. Kinda makes it feel like someone should be serving tea and crumpets…
