District 9 Director Neill Blomkamp Shows Off Art From Abandoned Alien Sequel
Last night, the world learned that District 9 director Neill Blomkamp was involved in film project in the Alien universe. We didn’t hear this via press release or an exclusive story in a trade publication. No, Blomkamp shared these himself, which doesn’t bode well for the project.
“Was working on this,” he writes. “Don't think I am anymore. Love it though.” The message includes a link to an Instagram gallery featuring a number of images, including Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley and Michael Biehn’s Corporal Dwayne Hicks (with some nasty scars).
Not much information is available, of course, but it looks like Blomkamp’s take on the Alien-verse would have introduced some changes to the Xenomorph. One of the images shows a change in the Facehuggers and their eggs.
There’s also a look at Ripley’s face as part of a Xenomorph. She’s been cloned before (see: Alien: Resurrection), and this might be another replica of the original, deceased Ellen Ripley (though the presence of Hicks suggests it would have been slotted after Aliens).
Unfortunately, we may never know what Blomkamp was planning for his take on the franchise. For now, we do have some exciting images that set our minds spinning about the possibilities.

Classic Star Wars comics are on sale for the last time... ever
Every Star Wars comic ever published by Dark Horse Comics is on sale right now for 50 percent off at their website. As it turns out, Dark Horse will no longer have the rights to sell Star Wars licensed comics after Jan. 1 but you can still continue to access the titles you own through their online store.
After the first of the year Disney will be bringing the Star Wars comics license back into the fold, publishing a trio of comics through Marvel. Dark Horse has been publishing them since 1991, when Dark Empire was released.
The stories they have told for the past 23 years are, for the most part, now considered non-canonical. Earlier this year LucasFilm pruned the many branching storylines in favor of a more unified canon in the lead up...

Microsoft: “It’s Time To Talk About Gaming On Windows”
Yes, it jolly well is, you lot. For years and years you’ve been promising to pay attention again, but it’s never quite happened, has it? All you did was squeeze Games For Windows Live onto our lawn from some unspeakable orifice, then disappear back to your Xboxes and not-quite-right phones. Our Graham even ran a history of all the times you’ve made these claims in the past, and look where we are now: in exactly the same place. Or are we?
Today’s claim comes in the form of a twitter reply from Xbox and Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer*, but the simple line “I’ll be focusing more on what we are doing on Win10 in January, it’s time for us to talk about gaming on Windows” is backed up by a couple of things. Maybe.

11 Fan Theories That Are Better Than The Actual Story
Dix"There are tons and tons of great Star Wars fan theories that came out during and after the release of the original trilogy: that Luke would fall to the Dark Side, that Darth Vader wasn't really Luke's father, that R2D2 was actually a cyborg containing the remnants of Luke's father"
O_o
Fan theories can be wonderful and strange , but sometimes a fan will come up with an idea that's even better than the official story. Here are just some of the fan theories that actually make a lot of sense—and would actually improve the stories they come from.

TCR | 2014.12.01 | "In 1977, when I was in 8th grade, I won two tickets from a local radio station to see this new movie Star Wars, two weeks before it came out nationally. I loved it. But at school on Monday I couldn’t explain how everything was different now because nobody had seen it. They thought my Darth Vader impression was just asthma. Then the movie comes out and everybody’s saying it’s the greatest thing ever but I saw it first. I have been a Star Wars fan two weeks longer than any of you."
Marvel makes it official: Benedict Cumberbatch to play Doctor Strange
Marvel Studios confirmed today that Benedict Cumberbatch, star of Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness and The Imitation Game, will play Doctor Strange in the 2016 film of the same name.
The announcement confirms earlier reports that pegged the modern day Sherlock Holmes as Marvel Studios' choice for Doctor Strange.
"Stephen Strange's story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity," said producer Kevin Feige in a statement. "In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character."
Doctor Strange is a neurosurgeon who "discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions" — opening up a new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — following a horrific car accident. The...
Deus Ex Universe Is Not An MMO, New Engine To Power Upcoming Titles
Eidos Montreal has announced a new engine specifically designed for PCs and the latest consoles. The Dawn Engine as it’s called is based on a heavily modified version of IO Interactive’s Glacier 2, used for Hitman: Absolution.
Despite the heavy Deus Ex influence in the screenshot (and the fact we know there are more games in that series in development), Eidos cautions that there is nothing to be gleaned from the content. The purpose of the image is to show fidelity and detail capable using Dawn Engine (click the above image to see it at full size).
In the blog post introducing the new technology, Eidos community manager Sacha Ramtohul sets to assuaging concerns about a previous announcement. “Some of you have had concerns that ‘Universe’ meant ‘MMO,’” he writes. “Rest assured, it does not.”
Instead, he makes it clear that the “universe” appellation is being used to envelope all of the stories that might be told in the Deus Ex franchise. This includes primary games and other projects. You can read the entire blog post on Eidos Montreal’s website.

Our Take
I greatly enjoyed Deus Ex: Human Revolution (and even managed a no-kill run on my first play through). I’m glad that there has been some gap in between releases, because when the next game is finally announced, I know I’ll be excited.
