One week after receiving a windfall of restricted stock units -- and cashing in a chunk for a $35.8 million payday -- Apple CEO Tim Cook on Monday sold another batch of his sizable stock cache worth nearly $29 million.

SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket exploded in Cape Canaveral this morning. On board was Facebook’s Internet.org satellite, which experts estimated cost $95 million.

Back in 1990, Namco had begun to dive into the development of 3D graphics and motion simulator technology. As their way of showing that they had the expertise to compete in these fields, they developed Galaxian 3. This was an early example of the 4D motion theater. The smaller “Theater 6” model did make it’s way to the West; a Dave & Busters I visited in South Florida had converted one over to a Beachhead (Nick at Arcade Hunters said it was probably Air Raid…my memory is fuzzy :P). But before the Theater 6 model there was a Japan-only Galaxian 3 ride. This was an impressive machine – it was built in a cylindrical room with a projected image that wrapped around the wall. Up to 28 players could ride at a time, blasting aliens to their leisure.

Since this exact ride was never released to the West (as far as I am aware), Western audiences don’t know much about it. Thanks to this new video produced by Bandai Namco, we get to see a little bit of “behind-the-scenes” from 1990. That includes the development studio and a glimpse at the enormous PCB cage that housed all of the game hardware. The cool space-themed entry that would have fit in with any amusement park as a ride.

It would be interesting to see Bandai Namco do a Galaxian 4 concept that uses newer technology to offer a motion theater for today. What do you think?

How many times have you looked at an Instagram photo on your smartphone and instinctively tapped the picture to get a closer look at the details captured, only to be reminded that the photo sharing site doesn’t support zoom? Countless. Well, that’s about to change, finally. 

After five years of making users squint and hold their smartphones within inches of their faces to decipher what’s in the background of pictures, Instagram announced it will add a zoom function to its set of tools.

Instagram shared a video on its — what else? — Instagram account unveiling the new feature, noting iOS users can start zooming in today, while Android users will have to wait a few weeks.

“Starting today, you can pinch to zoom on photos and videos in feed, on profiles and on Explore,” the announcement states.

While the social network doesn’t say exactly how long it’s been working on the feature or why it wasn’t included in the original platform, Instagram says the tool is just the latest innovation it plans to add to the service.

“And as things change, we’re still focused on improving the core parts of Instagram,” the company says.

Of course, adding the functionality comes with one drawback: pinching photos, videos, and profile photos puts us all at risk for inadvertently liking things we shouldn’t be looking at.
