T-Rex Eating A TARDIS Because Reasons [T-Shirt]

by Amy Ratcliffe
Tom Wright

Because reasons.

t-rex tardis

Remember the time Doctor Who had dinosaurs on a spaceship? Luckily they didn’t try to eat the TARDIS like this guy. This bizarre yet cool t-shirt design features a tyrannosaurus rex vigorously chomping on the blue box. He’s going to have a hard time swallowing the TARDIS since it’s bigger on the inside, but he’ll figure that out soon enough – if the Doctor doesn’t stop him first!

Feast Your Eyes On This Wonderful Nerdy Papercraft Art

by Amy Ratcliffe
Tom Wright

Molly, this seems like something you could get into.

papercraft elsa

As much as I love buying prints and posters, I’m always on the lookout for different kinds of art to put on my walls. I like variety, and these incredible papercraft designs by The Paper Pony blew me away! The Etsy shop features intricate paper art inside shadowboxes, and they are highly detailed and so very, very pretty. I especially love the use of different textures. Their work features characters from Frozen, Game of Thrones (Daenerys and her dragons!), Doctor Who, Legend of Zelda, and many others. You can even commission a design if you don’t see your favorite franchise represented in their shop.

Each piece is made by hand so there will be slight variations – which I think makes this art even cooler. Turnaround time is 3-4 weeks.

Google Maps’ April Fool’s Gag Features A Pokémon Challenge [Video]

by Amy Ratcliffe
Tom Wright

Seems legit.

Google Maps Pokémon Challenge

Look out, Google Maps has been invaded by Pokémon! Their April Fool’s Day gag is all about recruiting anyone who is brave and daring to hunt down the Pokémon and become the master. Will you rise to the challenge?

Their spoof ad is hilarious, and the actual map function is adorable. Just make sure your Google Maps app on your iPhone or Android is up to date, go to the search bar, and press start. You can hunt down the tiny monsters until 2am on April 2nd. Good lucking catching them all!

Disclosure: you will not actually get a job at Google for getting all the Pokémon.

How Prepared Is Your State For The Zombie Apocalypse?

by Nicole Wakelin
Tom Wright

I just think Texas has more guns than that...

zom_Upload

You might have your escape route and secret stash of supplies all ready for the zombie apocalypse, but what about the rest of your state? This map is the work of real estate blog Estately who has done an analysis of every state to determine which are the most ready to fend off the brain eating hordes. They took into account things like military personnel, access to weapons, the physical fitness of residents and even their access to laser tag for target practice.

If you live in Alaska, you’re looking good, but if you’re in New Jersey, you might want to think about relocating.

Let It Go Sung by 21 Disney and Pixar Characters

by Amy
Tom Wright

Haven't seen Frozen, but this is entertaining.

I can't picture a future where I'm tired of listening to Frozen's "Let It Go." Whether it's the Idina Menzel version on the soundtrack or one of the dozens (hundreds?) of parodies that's popped up on the web, if it says "Let It Go," I have to click it. There have been renditions ranging from big and moving to a parody with curse words to this fantastic take by Brian Hull.

He belts out the lyrics of the powerful song while doing impressions of 21 different Disney and Pixar characters. 21! And they're not all princesses; he mimics everyone from Jack Sparrow to Lumiere to Sebastian. It's guaranteed to make you smile.

Teacher Uses Game Of Thrones Spoilers To Keep His Students Quiet

by Geek Girl Diva
Tom Wright

Now that's hilarious classroom management.

Although it would never work in the US. The whole cruel and unusual punishment thing. This one's just too cruel.

game-of-thrones-season-2-joffrey

There’s a high school math teacher in Belgium who has found the perfect way to keep his students in line.

Spoilers.

Specifically, Game Of Thrones spoilers.

According to The Telegraph:

Asking his students which of them watched the fantasy drama, the majority raised their hands, to which the teacher responded: “Well, I’ve read all the books. If there is too much noise, I will write the names of the dead on the board.”

Reported in the Belgian newspaper nieuwsblad.be, the teacher continued: “They [the dead] are enough to fill the whole year and I can even describe how they die.”

Did it work? Well, let’s just say his students tested the theory once.

Once.

X-Men Rogue Skater Dress

I’m loving this trend of cosplay skater dresses. They can be worn casually for daily life or you can dress it up a bit for a cosplay or a night out at the bar at your favorite con.

Plus, with a 95% cotton 5% spandex blend, they’re pretty much wash and wear which is good when you have to save the world in a hurry.

Hate Looking Up Words? Meet The “Diction-Fairy” [Cosplay]

And so she could dress up as the Diction-Fairy.

In my dreams, she just taps you with her wand and you know whatever it was you were looking up.

Could This Be A Real-Life Golden Snitch?

by Nicole Wakelin
Tom Wright

Quidditch is coming.

Also, this is quite the improvement on the way we used a snitch previously.

b_Upload

Japanese inventor Jun Rekimoto and his colleagues at the University of Tokyo have invented a HoverBall that’s just one small step away from the golden snitch in Harry Potter. The little plastic ball is embedded with a 90 millimeter wide drone and can hover for 5 minutes at a time. It’s controlled by remote control, but could be programmed with specific routes. From Buzzfeed:

“This ball has an ability to stay in the air, and change its location and behavior according to the sports game contexts,” the team said.

“With this technology, physical dynamics of a ball can be re-programmed by sports designers, and new ball-playing vocabularies, such as hovering, anti-gravity, proximity, or remote manipulation, can be introduced to extend the way people interact with balls.”

Yes, yes, all those things, but also Quidditch!

I love Star Wars March Madness!

Not into sports? Well, you don't have to feel left out this month while everyone is talking about brackets and March madness because there's a Star Wars version! That's right, StarWars.com has brought back their bracketed character tournament, and it's been upgraded and improved.

You can vote between characters (right now it's Yoda vs Qui-Gon Jinn and Boba Fett vs Greedo) and though making bets with money isn't the best idea, you can still have have a friendly competition with friends. Maybe you can put some toys on the line? Anyway, here are some of the tournament's features:

- Real-time voting results
- New divisions: Rebels, Jedi, Scoundrels, Republic, Empire & Separatists, Sith, Bounty Hunters, and Underworld
- “Attack of the Play-Ins” round, allowing four wild cards to enter the main tournament
- Social sharing functionality

Death Star Sunglasses Are Mandatory For All Stormtroopers

by Stefan A. Slater
Tom Wright

I'd wear them.

SC60200lg

Sure, there was probably a dress code aboard the Death Star, but I’d like to think that during their off hours those stormtroopers liked to kick it old school. You know, throw on Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes latest record, chill out in a Imperial-issue hammock and throw on a sun hat and a pair of cool sunglasses.

Well, I guess there wouldn’t be much sun inside the Death Star, but if those troopers were going to wear some glasses, they’d probably wear these. The white theme matches the troopers’ armor, it comes with a nifty case and there’s even a Death Star on it! Too bad all those stormtroopers died in that epic fire ball, but if they’d worn these shades they would’ve kicked the bucket in style.

This Parrot Is Actually A Woman In Body Paint

by Geek Girl Diva
Tom Wright

This is incredible.

woman as parrot bodypaint

When you look at this picture, you see a parrot. That’s what you’re supposed to see.

But it’s not a parrot. It’s a woman bodypainted and posed to look like a parrot.

What’s really amazing is that, even if you see her, you can go back and look at it and see a parrot and enjoy it just as much.

This little bit of gorgeousness was created by artist and former world champion body painter Johannes Stoetter, who put 4 weeks of planning and 4 hours of painting into this one perfect image.

LEGO Smartphone Robot Breaks Speed Record For Solving A Rubik’s Cube [Video]

by Nicole Wakelin
Tom Wright

Impressive. Most impressive.

Capture_Upload

It may have taken you hours to get the hang of solving a Rubik’s Cube, but the Cubestormer 3 can do it in a world record setting 3.253 seconds. The record was set over the weekend at the Big Bang Fair in Birgmingham, UK by a robot built by
David Gilday and Mike Dobson.

The robot is composed of a Samsung Galaxy S4 brain with an Exynos octa-core processor, along with four Cortex-A15 and four Cortex-A7 processors controlling the eight Lego Mindstorms actuators. All of it moves so fast that the human eye can’t even track the motions.

The previous record of 5.27 seconds was held by Cubestormer 2. As for humans, we don’t do so well. The human record is a comparatively slow 5.55 seconds which was set last year.
