No offense but could you post some finished art? I've been following you for a couple of years and I've yet to see this Over The Surface graphic novel emerge. Lots of sketches, lots of life drawings from France or whatever. It's all well and good that you're improving your skills but I think most people follow you because they want to see something that's actually *finished*. I'm a little drunk so I'm being blunt but I'm sure you have self-doubts. Get over them and start posting your real work!

Places that you can see my finished art:

  15. Occasionally, here on Tumblr.

Reasons to follow me on Tumblr:

  1. Because you like what I post to Tumblr.
Ultimately, I’m going to post what I want, which includes reblogs, links, and lots of unfinished art and exercises.  Often, my finished artwork is owned by a publisher or agency, and I don’t have the right to post it to Tumblr.  There is no one forcing you to stick around if you don’t like what I post on Tumblr.  I’d be sad to see you go, but you are free to leave.

If you don’t like what I post on Tumblr, but you want to stay in the loop regarding upcoming finished work:

  1. Bookmark my “projects” page and visit once or twice a year.  http://natalienourigat.com/projects/
  2. Follow me on Twitter or Facebook (I post plenty of non-art news on both, but they might be more in-tune with how you want your feed to look) — https://twitter.com/Tallychyck , https://www.facebook.com/natalie.nourigat?ref=mf

I have crippling self-doubt in relation to this project.  I wrote the first draft of the story while I was still in college, and I’m currently drawing the first chapter for the THIRD time.  It’s my first story for a publisher that I am both illustrating and writing.  Showing people my writing, in particular, feels like standing naked in front of an audience.  Over The Surface is my baby, my chance to show the world what I can do, and, I am hoping with every fiber of my being, the beginning of a career where I can work full-time on my own stories, and not spend 30-40 hours/month drawing commercial artwork, as well as juggling multiple work-for-hire projects, to pay my bills.  I want Over The Surface to be perfect, and I’m trying to come to terms with the fact that it’s never going to be.  I have two fantastic editors helping me to get this thing solid and out in the world next year.  They’re helping me squash my inner critic enough to keep moving forward.  I keep reminding myself that “done is beautiful” and that I would rather have a finished comic than a few perfect pages.  I want to have finished artwork to show you, as good as possible but  also as soon as possible.

I’m a brutally honest drunk, and I’ve gotten in trouble for many times.  We have to remember that unfiltered honesty tends to come across as plain rude, and think twice before “being blunt”.  Just sayin’.

phatphemme:

Femme to Femme is a literary non-fiction, varied anthology seeking to explore femme* identity in the 21st century through various mediums: poetry, essays, stories and narratives, illustration, art and photography.  It was inspired by conversation with young femme* folks of color and Joseph Beam’s 1991 collection of writings edited by Essex Hemphill: Brother to Brother: New Writings by Black Gay Men

Call For Submissions: From Femme* Self-Identified Folks [of Color]

We’re looking for submissions from femme* self-identified folks—including gay/queer, straight, bi, asexual, pansexual, trans*, gender fluid, and others along the gender and sexual orientation spectrums.

We’re specifically seeking stories, letters, narratives, critical analyses and essays, illustrations, and photography capturing the essence and nuanced expressions of black and brown femme* personhood across gendered and embodied difference and lived experiences; How you interpret these is up to you. We welcome first-person narratives (of your experiences, relation to other femme folks [mom, sister, grandma, auntie, girlfriend, partner, etc], photos essays, remembrances, reviews of significant literature or films, anything that you’d like to add to the conversation of what femmeness means to you, what it looks like in the 21st century, and how definitions and expectations of it is changing…or not.

France Arrests a Comedian For His Facebook Comments, Showing the Sham of the West's "Free Speech" Celebration - The Intercept:
The arrest, so soon after the epic Paris free speech march, underscores the selectivity and fraud of this week’s “free speech” parade. It also shows why those who want to criminalize the ideas they like are at least as dangerous and tyrannical as the ideas they targeted.

Every state needs to take a couple of million Syrian refugees. The UK is completely ignoring its responsibilities; the opposition party is arguing that we should take 500, as though that would be radical and progressive.

6 y.o Maged Badawi a #Syria refugee who froze to death in Lebanon. Take a good hard look at him & urselves too..💔💔

There is literally only one news source about this; the rest are tweets. Is the world really going to ignore him in death too?

My crew of women

by Katie
Spencer Greenwood

THESE GUYS ARE SO CUTE

2014 was a BIG year here at Lust Films. We shot two volumes of XConfessions, the best yet! And I couldn’t have achieved so much if it weren’t for my incredible production team.

My philosophy: IT’S TIME FOR PORN TO CHANGE! And one of the most important aspects of that is having more women in porn, behind the camera! Directing, writing, producing and creating content from a female perspective, that women want to watch! This is why I love working with the talented women we have in the Lust team. From the filming to the catering, we have women involved in every aspect of each production. And luckily we had our amazing photographer Chio Lunaire on set during the production of XConfessions Volume 4 so that now  I can introduce them to you! And give you a sneak peak of behind the scenes…

thumbnail-7

Laura, our runner. A crucial component of any production.

MakingoffXC4-7043

Andrea, assistant director, always checking the material with me (notice the fancy slippers we wore in that location)

A production like this isn’t always erotic fun and games. It’s just as technical as any other kind of film making. It involves working in all kinds of weather conditions (one of our confessions was set in the rain!), heavy lifting, unloading equipment, camera and sound operation, some long waits and some extremely busy mornings!

MakingoffXC4-7035

Thais, director of photography, and her camera assistant Nonna, filming I FOUND YOUR MOTHER ON TINDER.

thumbnail-6

Screenwriter and line producer, Almudena, taking care of business on the set of POWER PUSSY.

thumbnail-3

Cora, sound recorder.

And then there’s the other side of aesthetics. It’s not just the production team who make my movies look so beautiful, but the costume designers, make up artists and stylists who also create a signature polished look and help build the context which makes each confession unique and authentic.

And of course, a hard working team need their fuel!

MakingoffXC4-7588

From the catering department, Gemma.

To keep a production running smoothly and to schedule, my team have to be not only talented but also supportive of each other, professional and extremely pragmatic.

MakingoffXC4-9374

Hard at work on set with my team.

MakingoffXC4-1615

Thais and Nona, shooting upcoming CARNIVAL HUSTLERS.

And what would a production team be without their director! Here I am on the set of one of the most exciting XConfessions to date: POWER PUSSY! We shot in Bar 68, here in Barcelona. The space was limited but the atmosphere was electric! We shot a few shorts this year which involved a larger than usual cast and crew, and that means working even harder to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

MakingoffXC4-0358

But we nailed it! Every year the work gets bigger, better, more challenging and more fun! I can’t say thank you enough to my wonderful team and we can’t wait to show you all what we’ve been working on! Stay tuned…

"For a certain sort of person, sharing a book can be as intimate and exhilarating as sharing a kiss —..."

“For a certain sort of person, sharing a book can be as intimate and exhilarating as sharing a kiss — and as varied in its vernacular, from a drunken, late-night exhortation to crack open some John LeCarre, to an old friend gently floating the idea — across the suddenly endless expanse of a living room sofa — that you might, maybe, perhaps, enjoy a little Julian Barnes. Like a kiss, like a crush, like love itself, opening a book at someone else’s suggestion is simultaneously a solitary act and a shared one: We may travel these paths alone, but we visit common territory.

When someone you love tells you about a book that he loves, it’s an act of revelation —intentional or not — that’s as intimate and vulnerable as being handed the keys to his childhood home. He’s telling you where he’s been, but even more than that, he’s trusting you to explore it on your own, knowing your steps will fall where his once did. (And oh, the thrilling signs and wonders that attend reading his own copy of the book: There’s a strange and profound power to holding the very same object in your hands that he once held and — by the same portkey — reaching, separately but identically, the same destination.)”

New Writing

by Dean
Spencer Greenwood

Re: Born in Flames, which I recently downloaded.

Just updating this website and wanted to add some new writing.  Morgan Bassichis and I recently published an article called “Queer Politics and Anti-Blackness” in the new anthology, Queer Necropolitics, edited by Jin Haritaworn, Adi Kuntsman and Silvia Posocco. Craig Willse and I recently published a new essay called “Sex, Gender and War in the Age of Multicultural Imperialism,” in the inaugural issue of QED: A Journal of GLBTQ Worldmaking. The entire issue is themed around Chelsea Manning.

I also realized I never posted an essay that I published in an issue of Signs that was focused on the 20th anniversary of Kimberle Crenshaw’s initial work on the concept of “intersectionality.” My essay is called “Intersectional Resistance and Law Reform.” I also published a short essay in the new book, After Homosexual: The Legacies of Gay Liberation, edited by Carolyn D’Cruz and Mark Pendleton. The book reflects on the 40th anniversary of the publication of Dennis Altman’s Homosexual: Oppression and Liberation. My essay, “Too Queer to Be Square,” looks at how queer politics has conservatized in the last 40 years and what queer and trans activists are doing to resist that.

Finally, please don’t miss this exciting collection of essays about the 1983 film, Born in Flames, that Craig Willse and I edited for Women and Performance to mark the film’s 30th year. If you haven’t seen Born in Flames, please go watch it right now!

the history of spaces

by Morgan Meis
Spencer Greenwood

I thought you might be interested in this, Morgan.

121029_r22743_p233
The first history we write is a history of races. Our tribe’s myth is here, yours is over there, our race is called “the people” and blessed by the gods, and yours, well, not so blessed. Next comes the history of faces: history as the epic acts of bosses and chiefs, pharaohs and emirs, kings and Popes and sultans in conflict, where the past is essentially the chronicle of who wears the crown first and who wears it next. Then comes the history of places, where the ingathering of people and classes in a single city or state makes a historical whole bigger than any one face within it. Modern history is mostly place history, of an ambitious kind: what all the little faces were doing while the big faces were looking at each other. Modern place history has produced scholarly masterpieces, like Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie’s “Montaillou,” the densely inhabited tale of one region in France in medieval times, and a lot of collective social history “from below.” (It has also produced great pop writing: Robert Hughes on Barcelona, Peter Ackroyd on London.) But beyond, or beneath, these histories is the history of spaces: the history of terrains and territories, a history where plains and rivers and harbors shape the social place that sits above them or around them.

dys4ia (for windows and mac)

by auntie

dys4ia

dys4ia, my autobiographical game about my decision to start hormone replacement therapy, has been updated with an important new feature for players: the ability to actively contribute to the material well-being of a real live trans woman, that is to say, me. or to put it another way: after most of two years available to play for free on newgrounds, dys4ia is now available as a commercial game for windows and mac for five bucks.

poverty and the threat of homelessness are often the exciting sequel to dys4ia: my partner and i have been struggling with making ends meet for a while now. now dys4ia allows you to actively help with the situation – call it “gamification” if you like. if you’ve ever taught a class with dys4ia, lectured about it, used it as an instructive tool – why not pay me back for the resource i’ve provided you? dys4ia is often called an “empathy game” – here’s empathy’s final boss.

#PornProtest: ‘Face-sitting’ won´t kill you

by Samantha Coombes
Spencer Greenwood

This is to protest the bullshit new law about porn David Cameron can't get off to.

After over 500 protesters took to the streets outside Parliament in London, it’s finally clear: ‘face-sitting’ is not a threat to your existence. With over 250 women taking full enjoyment in their face-sitting activities of the day, there was only one man who was in need of respiratory aid: a snorkel.

These dedicated men and women have catapulted #PornProtest across social media, letting the viewing public see their life-enlightening display on Twitter and Vine. Protesters dressed in all sorts of fetish gear, including a kinky santa just in time for the holiday season.

Fellow UK director Petra Joy also took to Twitter among others who had some pretty colourful placards to perfectly mock the stupidity of the new UK film laws.

Female pornographers of the world – I knew you supported us in spirit at yesterday’s #pornprotest & mass facesitting! pic.twitter.com/sWzHcVTaZP — petra joy (@petrajoy) December 13, 2014

If you want to read more of my thoughts on this topic, head over to The Independent. In the meantime, do as they say in the words of Monty Python: “Sit on my face and tell me that you love me!” This fight isn’t over yet!
