Drop Everything and Listen to Corey Feldman's New Single

by Lindy West
IKEA Monkey

Oh lawd

Oh man, Corey Feldman. Okay. Corey. Okay, man. Sooooooo, Corey Feldman has a new single! It's called "Mercy," and it features Brandon Howard—the guy who claims to maybe be Michael Jackson's secret son, but also maybe not, and also it doesn't matter either way because he's just a man trying to make his way in the world—and on the cover art he's crucified on a star of David and also there's a pretty sick menorah and a prescription symbol(?) and some other religious stuff, because this is an interdenominational (and pharmacist-inclusive) jam.

Really says something when a church is more progressive and inclusive than the scouts.

The Boy Scouts organization has told a Seattle-area church that it can no longer host a troop because the church has vowed to keep a gay man on as troop leader.

Did Jesus really rise from the dead?

IKEA Monkey

I don't know, CNN, but I bet your clickbait headline won't tell me.

As Easter comes into view, the thoughts of billions of Christians turn to Jerusalem, to a sacred weekend that includes the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Of course, people regard these events with various degrees of literalness. But Easter retains its power.

The top 100 animated movies

by Jason Kottke
IKEA Monkey

Ugh so wrong about #1. I'll save you the click through, its Pinnochio. Pinnochio?!

Time Out polled more than 100 experts to find the 100 best animated movies. Here's the top 10 (minus the top pick...you'll have to click through for that):

10. Fantastic Mr. Fox
9. The Nightmare Before Christmas
8. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
7. The Iron Giant
6. Dumbo
5. The Incredibles
4. Toy Story
3. My Neighbor Totoro
2. Spirited Away

I'm delighted to see Fantastic Mr Fox on the list...it's an underrated effort by Wes Anderson that will continue to grow in esteem as the years pass. No Wall-E in the top 10 though? I don't know about that. It clocks in at #36, behind Chicken Run (the least of Aardman's efforts in my mind) and Up, which is maybe my least favorite Pixar film. (via @garymross)

VIEW SLIDESHOW: Lambs and Hams: 15 Recipes for Easter Sunday

Easter is just around the corner, and, no matter how tempting, we probably shouldn't just stuff ourselves with marshmallow Peeps and chocolate bunnies all day long. Both lamb and ham are traditionally served at Easter: lamb symbolizes the beginning of spring, and, for the more observant, the sacrificial "Lamb of God." As for ham? In pre-refrigeration days, pork was slaughtered and cured in the fall, ready to eat come spring. Whichever way you want to go, we've got 15 trusty recipes to start your feast off right. Dinner first, then Peeps and chocolate bunnies!

Make Your Own Peanut Butter Eggs At Home

by Laura Northrup
IKEA Monkey

relevant

peanut-butter-egg-3839The Reese’s seasonal peanut butter cup empire is now a year-round operation with hearts, pumpkins, and even footballs, but it all began with the humble peanut butter egg. What you might not know is that you can make this confection in your very own home, with ingredients that aren’t very hard to find.

Foodbeast has the recipe: the only ingredients you probably don’t have in your house right now are the chocolate coating and powdered peanut butter.

Thanks to the quirks of our food system, this project probably won’t be cheaper than buying a big bag of peanut butter eggs at the store, but it would be a fun project and you could use any fancy chocolate that interests you and might melt to the right consistency.

Plus, you can cake a page out of the Reese’s (cook)book and make them in any shape you want.

It’s Baaaaaaack: KFC Is Resurrecting The Double Down

by Mary Beth Quirk
IKEA Monkey

I'm so jaded, this doesn't even seem that disgusting anymore.

Remember me? Of course you do.

Remember me? Of course you do.

It’s been a long four years since we first met the KFC Double Down. And while many fast food frankensandwiches have since sought to bottle that starshine and bring it to their own offerings, nothing we’ve seen since has captured the country’s interest quite like that bacon and cheese sandwich with fried chicken “buns.” And now it’s reportedly coming back to delight/disgust the nation yet again.

Its reign will be brief this time as well, with the sandwich returning to KFCs nationwide on April 21 and exiting again on May 25, ostensibly for another four-year cicada-like slumber underneath our feet, or wherever it is sandwiches hibernate.

USA Today was the first to report the sandwich’s return this morning, saying the company announced the news this morning.

A KFC spokesman confirmed the news to the Huffington Post, saying the 540-calorie offering will be back on the menu for another brief stint. Unless, of course, people clamor for it to stay.

“At this point, we’re thinking about this as a limited-time only kind of product,” the spokesman said. “We’ll have to see what America thinks.”

You guys are American, right? Let’s see what you think now:

We Need To Talk About 'Butt Selfie Queen' Jen Selter

by Kara Brown
IKEA Monkey

No we don't. Here's something else we can talk about instead. The IKEA Poang chair! Have you seen the display at Ikea? Its got that mechanical butt that "sits" in the chair over and over and over. Something like a million times. I bought one of those chairs, for MY butt, and I plan to use it a million times.

We Need To Talk About 'Butt Selfie Queen' Jen Selter

I tried to ignore this woman for as long as possible. I really did. The first time I heard the term "butt selfie" and later, "Queen of the Butt Selfie," I knew nothing but frustration and eyerolls would come from me learning more about either of those things. So I drew my mind far, far away from this human and her butt selfies for as long as I've been able.

Check out Chicago Magazine's List of Best New Chicago Restaurants

by The Serious Eats Chicago Team

There are always SO many restaurants

We like Dusek's, too. Above is the poached seckle pear Dutch baby from the brunch menu. [Photograph: Chelsea Ross]

Declaring that "anything short of nudity goes these days," Chicago Magazine just picked out its 17 favorite new restaurants in the city. Considering the fact that the extremely cold weather only recently relented, it might seem like a strange time to release a list of the best new restaurants of 2014 (plus, you know, the fact that it is only April), but the list also includes openings from the second half of 2013, making it a nice chance to take stock of what is going on.

Let's get back to the nudity part. What is Chicago going on about? Well, the magazine points out early on that only 3 of the 17 restaurants picked for this year's list use tablecloths, and that other changes to the atmosphere have made "dining out is fun again." That's especially true of the restaurant on top: Dusek's grabbed the number one slot because it "embodies everything about dining in this city right now." Namely, it serves food that is satisfying, exciting, easy to share, and reasonably priced. Also in the top five is Nico Osteria, Tanta, 42 Grams, and Brindille. We're also glad to see Mott St. and Gogi made the list.

To check out the full list, head on over Chicago Magazine. Plus, take a look at our own picks for the best new restaurants of 2013.
