Forget national politics, local politics is where it’s all happening.

First we had the town council man with the Klingon resignation letter and now we have our very first town council Pastafarian swearing in ceremony.

Pomfret, New York’s newest town council member Christopher Schaeffer just got sworn into public office wearing a colander on his head.

He’s also breaking new ground. According to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster’s site, for which Schaeffer is a minister as well as a practitioner, he’s the first Pastafarian to be officially sworn in wearing the traditional colander.

Personally, I hope he’s starting a trend.

Television's most delightful occult/weird-crime/Tibetan Book of the Dead soap opera was Twin Peaks, first broadcast on ABC in 1990 and 1991. It was a magical era before all the characters stared at smart phones and websites all the time, because such things didn't exist. And now David Lynch is looking for a "HOT caucasian girl," among other Los Angeles actors, for a semi-mysterious Twin Peaks project.

Ladies in love with Disney have been able to buy Disney apparel, including wedding dresses, for years and now Japan has put Disney princess-themed lingerie onto the market. Belle Maison Boutique sells the line for about $38 per set, and you can choose from Belle, Aurora, Rapunzel, or Cinderella. Each pairing loosely resembles the corresponding princess’ dress with colors and trim. The Rapunzel design is the closest to getting it right.

While it does seem weird at first blush, Hot Topic already has bras and panties printed with the characters. Maybe it’s just the wording and implying that Disney princesses are sexy? I’d actually classify these designs as cute rather than sexy though. As an adult who loves Disney stuff, I admit I would buy these if they were higher quality. Does that make me weird(er)?

TLC has a new show called Sex Sent Me to the ER, which airs on Saturdays at 10 p.m. for maximum viewer shame. Last night's episode featured a Seattle woman named Liz who once had to go to the hospital in the midst of a three-hour orgasm. An Austin restaurant is turning the dining experience upside down, and its employees are reaping the rewards. “As far as concepts go it's the first of its kind that I've ever worked in,” said Black Star Co-op employee Charlie Wilson.  The Black Star Co-op is doing away with tips. The member owners at Black Star Co-op believe it's better this way.  “It's definitely jarring to (customers),” explained Black Star Co-op employee, Mike Foster.  “They're so good. They're so friendly. You kind of want to help them out, and you feel bad that you can't,” said Black Star Co-op diner Antonio Juarez.

The company pays all 27 of its workers a fair-living wage.  The starting rate is $13.50 an hour. Typical restaurant servers who rely on tips make $2.15 an hour. “I think it's an adjustment, but you also have a more sustainable income than you would if you're a bar-tender where you have ups and downs. You might have a good night or you might have three bad nights. We level that out where you don't get the huge upswings when we're really busy, but you also don't have to freak out about making your bill payments when it's slow,” said Black Star Co-op employee Nicole Renaux.

About 10 years ago, a giant yellow "store closing" banner is probably the last  thing you'd see hanging on a Blockbuster Video.  Many small independent  video stores saw Blockbuster as the Goliath to their David. Now some of  those "mom and pop" video stores that survived the reign of Blockbuster are  thriving once again -- like the Austin institution "I Luv Video."  This  weekend they opened a new wing to their location on Guadalupe...with the video  rentals in the front, the new so-called "Back Room" is filled with vintage stuff  like reel to reels, VHS, 8-tracks, vinyls...even laserdisc movies.   Yeah...remember laserdisc?  "You come back here in this backroom, it's  like 'Wow, there's 200 laserdiscs back here and that's just like...that's almost  like a dead language," Ray joked.

The NSA revelations keep on coming, and if you're feeling desensitized to the whole thing it's time to refocus and get your game face on for 2014. Because shit continues to get real.
