A useful tool for covert and undercover operators, those that travel abroad in unstable countries, or anyone at risk of being held unlawfully.
The Titanium Escape Ring adds another tool to the operator's E&E options for escaping captivity. It's a simple but elegant-looking ring made of titanium, cut from solid barstock and polished to a mirror finish. But unlike all other rings, this one contains a saw and handcuff shim pick combination tool which is completely hidden from view when worn.
Located on a finger, its always in the exact area needed to quickly access and deploy, even when handcuffed. The shim can be used to open single-locked handcuffs, while the saw can cut zip-ties, disposable handcuffs, duct tape, rope, and other non-metallic materials.

Echo & The Bunnymen’s ‘Crocodiles’ to be reissued on red vinyl for Record Store Day
[tweetmeme]Echo & The Bunnymen’s 1980 debut album Crocodiles will be reissued for Record Store Day in a new 180-gram audiophile pressing on red vinyl by reissue specialist Vinyl 180, the label announced in an e-mail newsletter this week. This year’s Record Store Day falls on April 20, and while the full list of exclusive releases has not yet been posted, we do so far know of special titles coming from Hüsker Dü, Robyn Hitchcock, Paul Weller, Wire and Duran Duran — and, possibly, The Glove (see links below).

Arcade Fire's Regine Chassagne Is 'Very Pregnant,' Shows Off Baby Bump at Charity Gig

Although not confirmed, reports are flying like the proverbial stork with news that Regine Chassagne from Arcade Fire is pregnant. The Montreal Gazette reports the Arcade Fire member was "very pregnant" when they played a benefit gig in Montreal on Saturday night for Chassagne's Haiti-relief organization Kanpe. The group performed three songs at the event, none of which were the highly classified new pieces.
"The idea behind Kanpe is to start something for Montreal to come together," singer Win Butler, and (presumably) father to Chassagne's child, said during the mini set. "This is just the beginning, the first step, so if you're interested in Haiti, let's just do this shit, all right?"
It's Unlikely That You Have Ever Really Eaten Snapper Sashimi
Oceana, an organization dedicated to ocean conservation, has bought over 1,200 samples of fish from restaurants and stores around the country, and submitted them to DNA testing to identify their species.
The final report, released today, shows that almost all fish labeled as snapper is not snapper; "white tuna" is really escolar (which is banned in Italy and Japan for its gastric volatility but is in fact rich and delicious); and in general, a third of all fish is sold under false names.
Kansas City is one of the only locations where a fish labeled snapper was actually a snapper. Other national highlights: In Texas, 49 percent of fish was mislabeled; in Chicago, a fish labeled Alaskan cod was actually the unusual threadfin slickhead; and not a single New York sushi restaurant had all its fish correctly labeled.

New NYPD Team Will Hunt Down Lost iPhones With Apple’s Help
The New York Police Department is building a team whose sole mission is tracking down stolen iPhones and iPads with a helping hand from Apple, according to a report.
The new squad of iCops, first reported by the New York Post, will work with Apple to find the thousands of Apple devices lifted every year.
Apple devices are an increasingly popular target of thieves -- 3,890 more Apple products were stolen in New York City in 2012 than in 2011. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg went so far as to blame iDevice theft for a 3.3% increase in city crime in 2012 compared the previous year during a December interview.
Apple has worked with the NYPD to help track stolen devices even befor…

A First Look At KORG's MS-20 Synthesizer Reissue
We first mentioned KORG's new mini version of the classic MS-20 synthesizer last month. Here's a hands-on look by Peter Kirn at Create Digital Music.
Peter comes away impressed; KORG has managed to cram the essence of the 1978 original into a somewhat modernized package. It still only plays one note at a time, there are no patch memories and you can only control notes via MIDI -- don't expect to tweak knob settings from the comfort of your computer desktop.
That said, this little synth is a great value for $599, although public response has been polarized. Some electronic musicians absolutely love it, while others question the need for yet another standalone analog monosynth with limited MIDI capability. Personally, I'm sold.

Today’s featured home is spectacular and even has a name: Arrowhead. The architect, Robert Green (a student of Frank Lloyd Wright) designed the home in 1962.
There are 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms and one half bathroom. There is a detached guest house complete with kitchen and bath. The house is mostly time-capsule, except, there is that dreaded granite countertop in the kitchen.
Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing and agent Michael Redwine may be contacted at (404) 394-4071. The price is $1,300,000.00.

Local Business Love It Promote It, LiPi Selling Downtown Wares Online
These days, the retail scene in downtown Raleigh is more about quality than quantity. Growing by a few more shops each year, we’re not quite at the point where mass Raleighites visit for a day of shopping. While we’re waiting for downtown to be a shopping destination, there may not be a more innovative way to sell products than what Love It Promote It is doing.
The local startup LiPi, for short, is an online store for products from locally-owned businesses. I met up with Jayson Humphrey to talk about his business and what he’s doing for downtown Raleigh merchants.
“Locally owned retailers are the heartbeat of LiPi”, said Humphrey as he swipes the latest version of his application on his smartphone. What Humphrey does is work with shops within and outside of downtown and has them list their products on his site. Shoppers can then browse and purchase products straight from the retailers.
LiPi is optimized for all phones, tablets, and browsers. Navigating is very simple as they use a Pinterest-style layout to show off products to viewers.
LiPi, Inc. was incorporated in April of 2012 and launched their e-commerce site in December later that year. They have been expanding their product offerings and the number of businesses they partner with, most of them being in downtown Raleigh. Shops like Galatea Boutique, Symbology Clothing, and Cimos Raleigh are all selling products on LiPi.
The philosophy is simple, to bring all the vendors to one online place.
“It’s not shopping at Cameron Village or shopping at North Hills, it’s all under one roof.” I was very intrigued at what LiPi was doing and how it could really help retail.
Today, the shops in downtown are spread out and not clustered in a way that promotes shopping as an activity like the malls do. With LiPi at their side, shops can sell in their stores as well as online. This gives them more exposure and making them less reliant on foot traffic. Raleighites who don’t normally think of shopping in downtown can now access the products by using LiPi.
The best way to keep in touch with LiPi is to join their site to receive attractive weekly emails of “the best curated goods.”
You can’t get any of these innovative services in traditional malls, not yet anyway. With the growth of online shopping, this seems like a natural fit for retail in urban areas.
