Intriguing Images of Eye-Defying Double-Takery

With just a little bit of strange perspective, the human eye can be confuzzled into making you think you're looking at a giant man, an octopus-dog hybrid, or dangerous cliff when you're really just looking at a dude, some puppies and a tree. It's fun to take your brain for a spin and gander at a pile of double-take-causing illusions of warped perspective.

A small design detail on this umbrella makes it more paw-some than the others!

by Takashi Yamada

Designer He Yue observed that some people close their umbrellas and use it as a walking stick after it stops raining. He added a small detail on the stick that made the ‘Footprint’ umbrella instantly loveable. It’s not a revolutionary redesign but just taking into account human behavior and emotion to make you connect with daily objects some more. The rubber umbrella tip in the form of paws leaves a trail of pet footprints when used as a walking stick. The designer sees this as a poetic expression of “companionship” between items and people through design.

Wildly Offensive English Language T-Shirts Are Apparently All The Rage In Asia

A Notched Coat Hanger for (Partially) One-Handed Operation

by Rain Noe

Coat hangers are not something I struggle with, which is why I often made fun of designey ones in the Design Roast. And while I'd never buy this one here, it's at least an interesting take:

That's the Mozu Hanger, made from bamboo or bioplastic made from wheat straw (you choose). You may be wondering: How could I roast the other ones, but not this one? Because the other ones are trying to be different for the sake of being different, and their designs complicate the operation. This design here is actually trying to solve a problem--it's just not a problem that I have.

If it's a problem you have, and you want to help Kickstart it, the campaign is here.

This kitchen cupboard’s detailed design will please Marie Kondo and Bobby Berk!

by Ruchi Thukral

We all want a cupboard or a wardrobe that will take us to Narnia because dealing with the White Witch seems easier than dealing with this pandemic. While magic furniture may not be something we can order online, we sure hope we can get the Muzhi cupboard to make the extended hours in the kitchen more magical! Yen-Hao, Chu is an award-winning designer who has created the Muzhi cupboard for storing all your kitchenware in a way that will make Marie Kondo proud of your organization skills and Bobby Berk happy with your sense of aesthetic.

The cupboard is made of three main parts that the owner can assemble or disassemble according to their needs. The upper part of the cupboard is semi-open where the right side can be used to store tableware and the left side can be used for potted plants as it is open on three sides which allows for ample sunlight. The middle area is an open spacious section that can be used as a sideboard, a small bar counter, or a place to keep small and medium-sized appliances like a kettle, coffee maker or a toaster. Meanwhile, the lower section has a partly glazed left-hand drawer to let the owner see what’s stored inside and the large tray area on the right-hand side can be used to store pot covers or everyday utensils. Details like the solid timber handrail and hanging rails were added to provide a neat place for towels and wine glasses.

Muzhi comes in two finishes and has a simple yet elegant design that blends clean lines with the warmth of wood – a piece of evergreen furniture that will always be useful. It also makes the kitchen look more airy and spacious with the partially-open components. The modular build of this piece makes it the right fit for any kitchen but especially smaller ones that need to optimize space. Having Muzhi is definitely better than a bunch of bulky cabinets, it adds a timeless touch to your kitchen and you never have to fumble to find your dishes again.

Paper Cut Artists Created a Beautiful Series Of Miniature Birds

Paper cut artists, nayan shrimali and vaishali chudasama, have created a series of intricately cut 2.5D birds.

Each bird is made by cutting out different layers on paper and then painting on details, like feathers or coloring, using watercolors. The pieces are then hand-assembled to give a final 2.5-dimensional look, creating the illusion of three-dimensionality.

Each artwork takes between 4-6 hours to finish.

We are so impressed!

Nebraska woman is suing every gay person in America

by Matt Maranian

Alissa Skelton reports in the Omaha World Herald that a Nebraska woman, Sylvia Driskell, 66, who claims to be “an ambassador for God and his son, Jesus Christ,” has filed a lawsuit against “all homosexuals.” She is representing herself in the case.

“Citing Bible verses, Driskell contends ‘that homosexuality is a sin and that they the homosexuals know it is a sin to live a life of homosexuality. Why else would they have been hiding in the closet(?)’”

"Driskell wrote in a seven-page petition to the court that God has said homosexuality is an abomination. She challenged the court to not call God a liar," Skelton's story says.

Catholics have more fun: baptism by squirt gun

by Matt Maranian

Covid-19 physical distancing has sparked a new trend among Catholics with a sense of humor: baptism by water pistol.

The telltale sign that this child is a girl might not be the christening gown, but the pink water gun. Interesting too, because historically pink was associated with the masculine (it was considered a variant of red) and blue was attributed to the feminine (because The Virgin Mary was most often depicted wearing blue). So this just goes to show that the Catholic church can, in fact, to some degree, change with the times.

This palm-sized thermal printer can print up your photos in seconds, all without any ink

by Boing Boing's Shop

There’s a reason why Polaroids were so popular for so long. Even now, in a world where you can take a picture and send an exact copy to a friend in seconds, there’s something appealing about having a tangible, real-world representation of your image in your hand in seconds, ready to be saved for all time.

Of course, between the cost of ink cartridges and their prohibitive size and lack of mobility, a regular printer doesn’t quite scratch the same itch. However, the Mini Magic Wireless Photo Printer checks all the right boxes, offering an easy portable method of printing up your favorite pictures all without the hassle of ink.

This palm-sized printer uses thermal printing techniques, seamlessly transferring your image from your iOS or Android phone directly on to a thermal paper roll. Without the use of ink, you can print a pocket-sized version of all your favorite pics in a matter of seconds.

The printer connects to your phone via Bluetooth or USB, then you open your image in the free PeriPage app. There you can edit your image, then hit print and watch your picture spool out.

Of course, the beauty of this printer is that it doesn’t just print images. With the app, you can easily set up this printer to print virtually anything, including text. You can use it to print notes, create a shipping label or any of a hundred different uses.

Build with sturdy construction and an ergonomic design, this makes a great travel accessory for a business person or a fun toy for a picture-obsessed teen. The package also comes with six extra thermal rolls, which enable you to shoot and print up to 100 images.

The Mini Magic Wireless Photo Printer is definitely cool at its regular $169.99 retail price, but at 64 percent off, only $59.99, cool becomes a must-have.

This transformative furniture lets you lounge on your desk during WFH

need one

I am a huge foodie, and I have noticed this in both cuisine and design that the French love taking what you know, flipping it on its head, and giving you a crazier yet better version while you just sit there wondering “How do they do this every time?!”. The latest product to fall in this category is the ‘Chaise Renversée’ – a desk that can also transform into a long chair by the famous French architect Pierre-Louis Gerlier. The literal translation of Chaise Renversée is ‘chair overturned’, I love how simply the French put everything.

Since we are all cooped up in our homes, we are constantly finding ways to optimize space. Especially if you live in a city, you are likely to have everyday objects that are modular so that you have a functional space. Our current situation and the need to be flexible within a small space is exactly what inspired Gerlier to design the Chaise Renversée. It is the perfect blend of work from home and Netflix from home into one piece of modern furniture, it provides a stable table area to work and can then transform into the ‘Chaise Lounge’ when you want to relax.

“Chaise renversée is a desk for those who do not wish to have a desk,” says the architect, and I think that makes sense! If you only use your desk to reply to emails or pay the bills then it is inefficient to have a rigid, barely-used piece of furniture occupying space in your home. What we need is for our flexible lifestyle is what Gerlier gives us, a lounge chair that also works for work – if our 2020 mood could be translated into furniture, this is it. Sleeping on your desk has a whole new meaning.

The internet is having a field day with the Queen's "green screen" dress

by Rusty Blazenhoff

In a live broadcast Sunday, Queen Elizabeth II spoke about the coronavirus situation. It was a serious and reassuring speech. But, she wore a green dress, a green-screen-green dress. The internet, starting with Peter Chiykowski, took it from there.

One commenter quipped that the dress was the Queen's "'Easter egg' to provide entertainment to the quarantined masses." Unlikely, but fun to think about.
