Vince Gilligan Wants Fans To Stop Throwing Pizzas On Walter White's Roof

by Jenni Miller
EmbedPhoto: Courtesy of AMC.
Breaking Bad fans are taking things just a little too far for the folks who live in Walter White's house. One of the more hilarious tantrums that Walter White throws in the show involves the cranky bald meth cook tossing a pizza onto his own roof. Why? Why not? He's the one who knocks, and he can do what he wants. Fans, on the other hand, well, you guys need to cut it out. That's not, like, a stunt house; that's an actual house where people live, and they do not want your pizza on their roof.

The ever-present Vince Gilligan mentioned this rash of delicious vandalism on the Better Call Saul Insider podcast. "The lady who lives in that house, she and her husband, are the two nicest people in the world, and they deserve to be treated well," he said. The homeowners are game enough when fans just want to pop by for a photo and are polite, but apparently some visitors' behavior has gone beyond the pale.

"There is nothing funny or original or cool about throwing pizza on this lady's roof," Gilligan said, which is in general good advice for life. Plus, everyone's favorite hitman grandfather Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) promised, "If I catch you doing it, I will hunt you down." 'Enough said.  [Salon]

Watch: This Is What Really Happens When You Crack Your Knuckles

by Corinne Caputo
Video: Via YouTube.
Update: A new paper, published this week in PLOS, includes this fascinating video of a knuckle cracking in an MRI machine. Continue to our original story below to learn more about what's happening here.

This story was originally published on March 9, 2015.

Cracking your knuckles can be as satisfying as popping bubble wrap, but is it actually harmful to your joints? And, what is that noise? This new video from Vox has all the answers.

The video explains that synovial fluid, a "lubricant-like substance" found in between your joints, releases a gas when you stretch out your knuckles, for example. This gas forms bubbles which pop, resulting in the cracking sound that so many people despise.

As for the age-old debate regarding the dangers of knuckle-cracking, Vox cites two studies. The first won researcher Donald Unger the Ig Nobel Award in Medicine in 2009. After cracking the joints in his left hand, but not his right hand, for 60 years, he concluded (as conclusively as one can when they are the lone subject of their own study) that cracking joints would not cause arthritis.

On the other hand, Vox brings up a 1990 study that found that snapping, cracking, and popping can lead to a decrease in grip strength and an increase in hand swelling.

Knuckle-crackers of the world, you may take this all to mean your habit isn't that dangerous after all. But, we're with Vox on one conclusion: It's still as annoying as ever.

Fresh From The Dairy: Color Palettes Inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s Films

Fresh From The Dairy: Color Palettes Inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s Films

Designer and illustrator Hyo Taek Kim tapped into happy childhood memories of seeing Hayao Miyazaki’s films and created The Colors of, a series of color palettes based on Miyazaki’s body of work.

The-colors-of-Miyazaki-Hyo-Kim-2

The minimalist posters feature some of Miyazaki’s most noteworthy films, like Totoro and Howl’s Moving Castle, with horizontal stripes of colors that reference that particular film.

The prints are available with white backgrounds on Society6.
