America’s OG shopping mall, The Arcade, was built way back in 1829 in Providence, RI. The gorgeous Greek revival building was named one of the finest commercial buildings in the history of American architecture by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and it earned National Historic Landmark status in 1976. The remarkable building has been through its fair share of rough times over the past 188 years. According to the Northeast Collaborative Architects, the Arcade has endured a fire, several major hurricanes, and economic turmoil. After all that, this historic landmark was in danger of losing its majesty, until Northeast Collaborative Architects stepped in to transform the space and restore it to its former glory.
The main level now holds 17 small retail spaces that hark back to the building’s original purpose. Unlike most malls you’ll visit today, this newly re-designed space has no chain stores. But more notably, the Arcade’s second and third floors have been reimagined as an apartment building, holding 48 affordable "micro-lofts." Fair Companies reports that rent for the smallest apartments runs about $550 per month, which is nearly half the average cost of rent in Providence. The lofts are a sustainable and affordable housing option that respects the legacy of this historic landmark. Take a look, ahead. (HelloGiggles)

According to the Northeast Collaborative Architects, the original designers of the mall, Russell Warren and James Bucklin, set out to create the first commercial space that united many shops under one roof. This is what it looks like almost 200 years later.

No, it's not the unfinished meals left by customers, but rather perfectly good food that would otherwise be thrown out at the end of the day.
Gecco.89JAJAJAJAJA igual de fotogenica que yo..

Everyone has one. I'm talking about the friend who refuses to simply smile for the camera. The one person in your group who — seemingly involuntarily — makes a spastic funny face in Every. Single. Photo. Celebrities, however, tend not to do this. They've perfected their demure half-smiles and subtle pouts for their red carpet appearances. The "smize" (© Tyra Banks), the sexy over-the-shoulder glance, the dignified I'm-a-serious-actress expression.
Not Britney Spears. There are a million reasons why we love this woman. And her tendency to get silly in front of the camera is one of them. We noticed that Brit has a tremendous range of fantastically weird facial expressions — you know, the kind you and your friends make in Snapchat selfies that you send to a select few — and she's not shy about showing them off on the red carpet.
Now, let me be clear about what this is not. This isn't a mean-spirited compilation of "gotcha" moments, mid-sentence snaps or candid tabloid shots. This is a tribute to the pop star's bold bucking of the expectations of an A-lister in front of the camera. This is goofy Spears at her best. And we love her for it.

An essential parenting skill (Thanks, Fipi Lele!)
A new bill before the Italian parliament could make it illegal for parents to feed their children a vegan diet – including up to a year of jail time even in cases where children are perfectly healthy and meeting their nutritional needs. The draft bill is the creation of Elvira Savino, a member of Italy’s center-right Forza Italia party.
In the proposed bill, Savino refers to the vegetarian or vegan diet as “reckless and dangerous” and claims it is "devoid of essential elements for [children's] healthy and balanced growth." This is at odds with the stance of many health organizations – the American Dietetic Association, for instance, advises that parents must be careful to ensure children receive the nutrients they need (and vitamin B12 in particular), but says that otherwise the diet is safe and suitable for children.
The law appears to be a reaction to several recent high-profile child neglect cases within the country where children were hospitalized for malnourishment after being fed a vegan diet. Doctors believe the parents in these cases were misinformed and didn’t understand how to properly supplement a vegan diet to meet the needs of a growing child. Though these cases are obviously tragic, the solution would be to provide better education to new parents rather than throwing them in jail for their dietary choices.

Savino’s heart may be in the right place - the bill would penalize parents whose children become injured or ill through malnourishment with four years in prison, and six years if their actions result in the death of the child. But the bill’s narrow targeting of vegans is unfair, especially considering that there are surely other laws already on the books meant to protect children from neglectful situations.
For the moment, the bill is still just a proposal and nowhere near becoming a law. It needs to be discussed by parliamentary committees and then it will be passed to the chamber for debate later in the year. Hopefully Savino’s colleagues will see just how ridiculous the proposal is and it will be scrapped soon.

Two months ago, singer Christina Grimmie was shot and killed after a concert in Orlando. The 22-year-old was a rising star who had just begun her career — first gaining a following on YouTube and later making it to the final three on season 6 of The Voice. In fact, she was still putting finishing touches on four music videos for the EP Side A, which she released in February. Grimmie's family decided to finish what the artist started, and share her posthumous work with the world.
On Thursday, Billboard premiered the video for "Snow White," the first in a four-part series called The Ballad of Jessica Blue. Billboard will release a new video in the series for the next three weeks.
In the videos, Grimmie plays a character named Jessica who is on a journey of self-discovery, questioning her creative path and relationships. The first installment features Snow White- inspired visual elements, including Grimmie's makeup. It's a beautiful video, and its emotional weight is that much heavier knowing its star is gone. Watch the premiere, below.

Who doesn’t love a good makeover? So when we saw the unbelievable transformations of YouTuber and self-taught makeup artist Jordan Hanz into some of our favorite characters, we just had to share. Like Clark Kent in a phone booth, Hanz — who first caught our attention via an InStyle report — goes from YouTuber to Suicide Squad ’s Harley Quinn, Pokémon’s Jigglypuff, and Snapchat’s best filters in a matter of minutes.
While the results she posts to Instagram are shockingly realistic — some even look like actual cartoons — Hanz says she’s interested in the bigger picture. Like many transformation-focused makeup artists, she posts tutorials for each look to her YouTube channel. But she also weaves storytelling into the fold.
In response to #FreeKesha, the 25-year-old Cape Cod-based artist created a look rooted in strength. “My favorite makeup look isn't so much about the makeup, but the message behind it,” she says. “My 'Animal Inside' Kesha look was a video about the effects of mental, physical, and emotional abuse.” In another makeup tutorial, she addresses the derogatory labels women often get.
Hanz, who studied fine arts in school in hopes of becoming a portrait painter, has created a dizzying amount of characters since first posting to YouTube in November 2014. Ahead, some of our favorites — and the artist's take on what inspired them.

This rendition of Suicide Squad 's Harley Quinn (played by Margot Robbie) looks ripped from the pages of a comic book. How does Hanz choose her characters? “Sometimes, I'm just in the mood to be creepy and want to do something that even I'm slightly afraid of,” she admits.

Hanz's take on the Pokémon character Ivysaur is nothing short of magical.

This Pop Art take on Wonder Woman is perfect for Halloween. When selecting a character to transform into, Hanz suggests considering your own face shape. “I like to think of makeup and body-painting like a tattoo artist does with tattoos. It needs to fit the body,” she says. “A character's makeup will always look better if it flows with your own features.”

Of all the Snapchat-filter makeup tutorials, this one has us bugging out the most.

The Snapchat filter that started it all? The good ol' barf rainbow. Somehow, the makeup artist's interpretation elevates it to an even more interesting place.

This modern-day take on the riot grrrl appeals to our love of social justice through beauty.

“I'm a huge advocate against rape culture, and using body-painting was the perfect way to convey that to raise awareness,” says Hanz. “I wanted to use the power of makeup to show that we can break through any abuse we have been through, whether big or small, to unleash the fierce animal inside.”

This ethereal angel has cheekbones for days. The YouTuber's key for successful contouring? “It isn't just a line of darker color from your ear to mouth — it’s there to give the illusion that the hollows of your cheeks are receding, so that your cheekbones pop forward,” she says. “I think that once you understand why we do certain things on our faces, makeup changes completely.”
Photo: Via @jordanhanz.
Suicide Squad 's got nothing on this Joker. One secret to creating a spot-on image of DC Comics’ villain is to study up. “Reference pictures when doing something realistic,” advises Hanz. “A good artist will look at the still life or reference 90% of the time and the canvas just 10%. To get everything exactly as you want it, study the photo, not your face.”

Who would have thought an innocent Nutcracker could get so freaky so fast?
Photo: Via @jordanhanz.
Hanz’s most challenging attempt? “My latest Fruit Face look is one of the most detail-oriented I have ever done, and it held a special place in my heart because a 'fruit face' was the first ever paint I did,” she says. “I wanted to revisit the look and challenge myself to see how I've improved. I worked diligently for about seven to eight hours to test myself.”

I'll be the first to admit: This summer, I developed an abnormal obsession with basket bags. Every week or two, I waltz into the office with a new straw or raffia option, ranging from an itty-bitty, handheld number to a full-blown straw tote. And I'm not alone. This summer, baskets of all shapes and sizes have cropped up on Instagram, accompanying everything from gingham dresses and jorts to graphic tees and high-waisted bathing suits. Still, despite my endless searches on Etsy, eBay, and beyond, it took me over three months to finally find a piece that would do Jane Birkin proud.
Recently, the Birkin Basket by Blooming Dreamer caught my attention, feeding into that so- vintage feel I was going for. It's similar in aesthetic to the Little Doe made-in-Portugal bag that's become a favorite of the fashion set, as Who What Wear pointed out(but which is repeatedly sold out). Yet this basket has a major perk: It's about half the price of the Little Doe version. Sure, $150 is still a lot to spend on a basket, but I've searched high and low for basically this exact bag, so it's a price I'm willing to pay to end the hunt for good.
Why not pull a Birkin and trade your everyday black bag for something that looks (and feels) a little lighter? Click on to shop the piece for yourself and see how some of your favorite style influencers are using (and wearing) theirs.

Nothing to see here, just the perfect basket bag for your European holiday.

Last month when Oreo announced its limited edition chocolate chip cookie flavor, we were 100% on board. The dunkability alone was enough to make us eager to give them a taste test. But the most recent cookie has us scratching our heads. For a limited time, Nabisco is offering Swedish Fish Oreos, which is by far the weirdest flavor combo the company has come up with.
Though Nabisco has yet to release an official description of the newest Oreo, the box indicates that the snack includes the classic chocolate cookies we’re used to. However, sandwiched between them you'll find a cream filling that is flavored to taste (and dyed to look) like the red Swedish Fish candy. While they thankfully won't include the gummy texture, the flavor combo still makes us a bit hesitant.
According to Food & Wine, Mondelez International food and beverage company distributes both Oreos and Swedish Fish in North America. That would explain the kooky crossover.
If you’re brave enough to try the questionable cookie concoction, head to your nearest Kroger now. Swedish Fish Oreos are exclusively available at the supermarket chain starting this week. A box of 20 will go for $2.99, though we're not sure we’d want more than one cookie's worth of this insane flavor. But who knows? We could very well end up eating our words on this one.
