Aliás é curioso como aquela burrice artificial do "The Tomorrow People" é realista - é tipo um Siri glorificado acessando uma base de dados muito maior pelos fundos. Todas as coisinhas que ele faz de achar fulano ou beltrano por reconhecimento facial e cruzando informações são mais ou menos ao alcance dos algoritmos atuais.
P.S.: no último episódio apareceu outra IA, a Alice que roda dentro da sede do Ultra. Aliás essa é a coisa em que a série ainda parece meio "quaint" - eles têm a idéia da IA como um "Batcomputador" da vida, fisicamente confinado, quando na verdade seria/é uma coisa rodando na Nuvem.

The Plumes of Ceres

The MACH-11 program (Measurements of 11 Asteroids and Comets Using Herschel) uses data from the European Space Agency’s space-based Herschel observatory to look at small bodies that are targeted by our spacecraft. With the Dawn mission on its way to Ceres, the Herschel data have now revealed the existence of water vapor on the dwarf planet. To my knowledge, this is the first time water vapor has been detected in an asteroid, or I should say, an object that used to be considered an asteroid before the International Astronomical Union decided to re-classify it because of its large size.
Herschel ran out of coolant in the spring of 2013, but not before making a series of observations of Ceres in the two previous years that show a thin water vapor atmosphere. As with so many of our missions (Kepler comes immediately to mind), we still have plentiful data to look through. In this case, we’ll be examining the increasingly fuzzy distinction between asteroids and comets as we try to figure out precisely what is happening on Ceres. Dawn’s investigations, with arrival in March of 2015 and studies continuing all that year, will obviously provide a much closer look.
Carol Raymond is deputy principal investigator for Dawn at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory:
“We’ve got a spacecraft on the way to Ceres, so we don’t have to wait long before getting more context on this intriguing result, right from the source itself. Dawn will map the geology and chemistry of the surface in high resolution, revealing the processes that drive the outgassing activity.”

Finding water vapor is not totally unexpected, given the long-standing assumption that Ceres contains a mantle of ice in its interior, one that may include as much as 200 million cubic kilometers of water, more than the amount of fresh water on Earth. Herschel’s work in the far infrared is what it took to make the call, complicated by the fact that the signature proved to be elusive. This JPL news release notes the emerging view that Ceres releases water vapor in plumes at about 6 kilograms per second when orbiting closer to the Sun, while remaining frozen tight when further out.
Thomas Müller (Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics) discusses the finding in an MPE release:
“The intensity of the water line is linked to certain dark regions on the surface; these are either warmer areas or craters where an impact has exposed some layers of ice deeper down. Moreover, we were able to track how the amount of water changes along the asteroid’s way around the sun: if it passes nearer to the sun the water signature increases and then decreases again in the more remote sections of its orbit.”
Dawn will have specific targets to examine when it arrives thanks to the Herschel work, because the space observatory was able to see how the strength of the water vapor signature varied over time as Ceres spun on its axis. Those dark areas that Müller talks about had also been identified by earlier Hubble observations, and those of ground-based telescopes as well. Clearly, we’ll count on Dawn to teach us a lot more about them and how they operate, just as we used Cassini to investigate the geyser activity on Enceladus. The plumes of Ceres are going to get plenty of attention in the year ahead.

Lembro que foi SHOCKING quando fui em San Francisco da primeira vez e descobri que uma região metropolitana de milhões de pessoas cercando uma baía pode ter um mar limpo e onde inclusive pescam muito peixe.

Driving circles in the desert and the indestructible beetle
LuciocA solução para o besouro indestrutível é meio uma trope de scifi. ;)
My friend Miles and I, along with two Generic Dream Friends (people I don't know in real life), left a crowded village and traveled south on an eastern shore. The terrain was rocky, and well forested with various evergreens.
At some point we saw an island, about half a kilometer off-shore. So we used a boat that just happened to be there to explore the island. There was some kind of old ruin or fort there, but we couldn't get in, so we took the boat south to the mainland.
We were in the desert now. We found a truck. Miles and the guys couldn't get it started so I tinkered with it and brought it to life. So we all got in, Miles at the wheel, and we jackassed around in the sand for a while, doing donuts and whatnot. Then we hit the road south.
While the fellas were discussing whatever we were going to do next, I was looking out the passenger window. There was this huge beetle/crab-like creature, nearly the size of a dinner table. I wanted to check it out but the guys were dead set on doing their thing, whatever that was.
We arrived. The guys took off and I lingered in the truck, thinking about the really cool monster I'd seen. After I while, I followed the guys into the building.
It was a schoolroom, a little kids' class. Specifically a sailing class. The guys were all sitting in these tiny desks, wearing white sailing uniforms. They looked ridiculous. I said, "Seriously?" They laughed. I was vaguely amused, but I was having no part of this foolishness, and so I left. The guys eventually followed.
I got in the truck and traveled back to where I'd seen the beetle thing. It wasn't quite as huge up close, more like the size of a large dog. But it was vicious. It tried to bite us. It had razor sharp mandibles that could chop you up in seconds! We had to destroy it. We burned it, shot it, hit it with the truck, nothing could hurt it, it was impervious. So I had an idea. We put it in the back of the truck.
We arrived at some kind of Army science facility, way underground. It was very sci-fi. We were met by my friend Erica. For some reason she only had one arm (she has two IRL). She works there, she said she could help us with our insect problem. So we go deeper into the building.
Eventually we're in some meeting room where I'm explaining to Erica and Major Garland Briggs (from Twin Peaks) why this beetle is a danger to society and must be stopped. I explained that it can't be destroyed by conventional means, so we have to freeze it cryogenically.
Cue stupid alarm clock.
