A play where two Florida linemen blocked each other in a loss to Georgia Southern seemed to encapsulate Florida’s disastrous 2013 season. It happened again on Saturday. During the first half of a home game against South Carolina, linemen Max Garcia and Trip Thurman briefly blocked one another as quarterback Treon Harris dropped back to pass and then scrambled forward for a four-yard gain.

Florida wide receiver Mike McNeely lived every walk-on’s dream on Saturday afternoon when he scored a touchdown in the Gators’ 38-20 upset win over Georgia. McNeely, who was holding for a field goal, took the snap in the second quarter and took off 21 yards to the end zone to tie the score 7-7. Twenty-four hours later, McNeely had a different uniform on – as a cashier and bagger at a Publix supermarket in Gainesville. Gators fake kick hero Mike McNeely working at Publix today as scheduled. pic.twitter.com/NptSXSsEc3 — Jeff Barlis (@JeffBarlisESPN) November 2, 2014 ESPN.com’s Jeff Barlis was on the scene with McNeely during his usual 1-8:45 p.m. Sunday shift. This one was a bit different than usual. McNeely took photos with fans and signed autographs on tickets, pictures and even receipts. He gave some high-fives and some hugs and, of course, bagged groceries, helped customers to their cars and collected shopping carts. McNeely, a fifth-year senior who plays primarily on special teams, said his first career touchdown worked exactly like it did in practice. “It was a great call,” McNeely said. “It was drawn up perfectly. The guys blocked. I know Tevin [Westbrook] had a great climb and Clay [Burton] kicked out. [Kicker] Frankie [Velez] faking helped. All the linemen blocking, it was perfect. All I had to do was run. It worked just like it did in practice, so I knew where to hit it.” Head coach Will Muschamp praised McNeely, who was put on scholarship in preseason camp, after the game. Muschamp, himself a walk-on at Georgia during his playing career, appreciates what McNeely brings to the team. “Walk-on or scholarship, it doesn’t matter to me. The guy is a good football player,” Muschamp said. “I mean, he’s earned his scholarship now. But he’s a hard-playing, quick, good athlete. I mean, he can line up and play receiver as well as some of our guys. That’s the type of guy he is. I didn’t even blink putting him back there.” McNeely said he will continue to work at Publix until he begins studying at UF’s medical school next August. But for now, he’s focused on Florida, now 4-3, stringing some wins together. “It’s great to get the ball rolling in the right direction. I’m looking forward to going back to work on Monday,” he said. Florida spent the last two weeks trying to identify something it can do well offensively. The Gators switched quarterbacks and settled on running the ball. Having turned the ball over 15 times in the last four games - most of them on passing plays - Florida is taking a conservative approach and a seemingly simple game plan into one of the Southeastern Conference's most storied rivalries. Added center Max Garcia: ''It has been our strong point this season, so why not do it?'' The ground game is about the only thing Florida has done well on offense this season.

Fed up with your coach? Perhaps it’s time to put their job on Craigslist. That’s what one Florida fan decided to do this week by posting a Wanted Ad for a new Florida football coach to replace Will Muschamp, who hasn’t actually been fired (yet). The state of Florida's flagship university is seeking a Qualified Candidate to develop and implement an exemplary football program while providing leadership on and off the field. This position should be available no later than Midnight Saturday, November 29th, but as soon as early morning Sunday, November 2nd. Obviously, that Nov. 2 date coincides with the day after the Gators next game against Georgia. Florida is on a bye this week. Muschamp started the season on the hot seat and has done nothing this year to get off it. The Gators are 3-3 this season and coming off an embarrassing 42-13 loss to Missouri. The ad does have some humorous parts if you’re so inclined to read the entire thing (it is a little long). Here are a few of the better requirements: - Ability to win games against glorified high schools and junior colleges, aka "cupcakes", especially when the contest is held on the university's own campus. - Your offense must be able to score more points than the opposing team's defense. Your offense must be able to score more points than the opposing team's special teams as well. There can never be any confusion whether it's the actual players in uniform instead of drunk cheerleaders/Albert/Alberta. - Must not be a graduate of the University of Georgia. - Must not have the last name of Zook. We tried you out once. Didn't work out. Sorry. The ad also endorses Spurrier as the next coach, something I think we all want to see happen. While, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley hasn’t been ready to address Muschamp’s future just yet, we have no doubt that some of the criteria listed in this ad is probably on his wishlist. Florida Gators coach Will Muschamp, coming off a record-setting loss to No. 3 Alabama, will be judged on the entire body of work this season, athletic director Jeremy Foley said.

Alabama has experienced receivers, a deep and talented backfield and a preseason All-Southeastern Conference tight end. Quarterback Blake Sims and the third-ranked Crimson Tide simply haven't had to fully utilize that arsenal of playmakers in the past two games. Most of the throws have gone to wide receiver Amari Cooper, and tailbacks T.J. Yeldon and Derrick Henry haven't needed to do much against outclassed Florida Atlantic and Southern Miss. That figures to change Saturday when the Tide (3-0) opens Southeastern Conference play against Florida (2-0, 1-0). Alabama coach Nick Saban said it's important to get other players more involved in the offense to build their confidence and ''so the other team can't zero in on one guy.'' ''I think that there were other opportunities in the (Southern Miss) game for other guys,'' Saban said Monday.

Florida wide receivers coach Joker Phillips, a former head coach at Kentucky, resigned Wedneday and will be replaced by former Florida QB Chris Leak.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity that the University of Florida and Will Muschamp provided to me and my family, but at this time I have decided to step down from my position on the UF coaching staff for personal reasons," Phillips said in a university statement.
Phillips joined Florida after the 2012 season. He was the head coach at Kentucky from 2010-2012, compiling a 13-24 record overall and a 4-20 record in the SEC. In his final season at Kentucky he was 2-10 and 0-8 in the SEC. In November of 2012, Kentucky announced Phillips wouldn't return to the school but he coached the rest of the season.
Before he was Kentucky's head coach he was the Wildcats' offensive coordinator for four years.
"I appreciate Joker's contributions to our program and wish him and his wife, Leslie, nothing but the best in the future," Muschamp said.
Leak was the starting quarterback for Florida when the Gators won the 2007 BCS Championship Game over Ohio State. He started games in all four of his seasons at Florida and in the national title season took the majority of snaps over Tim Tebow, who was a freshman.
He returned to his alma mater as a graduate assistant for the 2013 season.
"Chris is a bright young coach," Muschamp said. "He is one of the all-time Gator greats and being at Florida is very important to him. He has been working with Coach Roper and our offensive staff and is very familiar with our players and new system."

According to Notre Dame's 2012 federal tax return, Brian Kelly made less than Charlie Weis did. And that's just from the school itself and not counting Weis' Kansas income.
Weis, the former coach of Notre Dame and current coach at Kansas, received $2.1 million as part of the separation agreement between he and the school. Current Notre Dame coach Kelly was listed to make $1.5 million.
From USA Today:
Kelly was listed with nearly $1.5 million in total pay, but the return notes that Kelly "is permitted to receive compensation from external sources with prior written approval from the University" and any such income is not reported on the return. Kelly's base compensation was reported as $698,140 – a little more than $25,000 more than the amount reported for calendar 2011.
The only person that made more than Weis on Notre Dame's return was Scott Malpass, the school's vice president and chief investment officer.
Athletic director Jack Swarbrick is listed to make over $1.1 million in 2012, and women's basketball coach Muffet McGraw's base salary was more than men's basketball coach Mike Brey's. However, Brey received over $720,000 from Play by Play sports, a marketing entity of Notre Dame's, which pushed his total compensation to $1.52 million over McGraw's $1.37 million.
As part of the agreement with Notre Dame, Weis will receive annual payouts from the school through 2015. He was fired from the school after the 2009 season and the total of the buyout payments could reach $19 million when concluded. After leaving Notre Dame, he served as the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2010 and as the OC for the Florida Gators in 2011 before he was hired as Kansas' coach in 2012.
At Kansas, Weis was listed by USA Today's database as the 21st highest-paid coach in the country in 2012 with compensation of $2.5 million. When combined with his buyout payments, Weis vaults up to 2012's third-highest compensated coach in the country, ahead of Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, Ohio State's Urban Meyer and LSU's Les Miles and only behind Alabama's Nick Saban and Texas' Mack Brown.

The news that Jameis Winston was suspended from the Florida State baseball team for stealing crab legs was everywhere on Wednesday, and a few days later the jokes keep coming.
On Thursday we saw Jameis Winston King Crab Legs at a supermarket in Alabama and a minor league baseball team held “Claw & Order Night.” On Friday, Spirit Airlines is getting involved in the Winston trolling.

Well done Spirit Air #Jameis #Gotem pic.twitter.com/PboymoWTvi — AJ Ricketts (@AJRicketts) May 2, 2014
The Florida-based airline company is running a promotion on its website that includes $10 off flight and vacation packages, a photo of crab legs, a chance to “steal” a getaway and “no community service required” to utilize the deal.
I’m sure Florida and Miami fans who use Spirit got a kick out of the joke.
On top of that, you can also purchase your very own “Jameis’ Famous Crab Shack” t-shirt.
That didn't take long. #Gators #Noles #CrabGate pic.twitter.com/QgSeLv3vGM — Zach Abolverdi (@ZachAbolverdi) May 2, 2014
The t-shirt was predictable, but the speed with which it appears on store shelves never ceases to amaze me.
