Two Florida players who made pivotal contributions last year in a victory at Tennessee won't be around for the rematch. The Gators suspended quarterback Treon Harris and cornerback Jalen Tabor for their game Saturday against the Volunteers. Harris and Tabor, both sophomores, were suspended one game for an undisclosed violation of University Athletic Association policy.

Florida coach Jim McElwain is considering flipping his quarterback rotation this week. McElwain said Monday that starting redshirt freshman Will Grier and bringing sophomore Treon Harris off the bench is ''something we talked about'' as the Gators (1-0) prepare for East Carolina (1-0). Harris and Grier were nearly flawless in the season opener, a 61-13 victory against overmatched New Mexico State.

Florida has its quarterback for the season opener, just not the season. Coach Jim McElwain announced Wednesday that sophomore Treon Harris will start against New Mexico State on Saturday night. Redshirt freshman Will Grier also will see playing time.

The University Athletic Association has partnered with Tinder to provide two lucky winners with a special Saturday night in The Swamp prior to the 2015 season opener against New Mexico State on September 5 (7:30 p.m. kickoff on SEC Network).

Florida is down to two scholarship quarterbacks with the departure of Skyler Mornhinweg to Columbia University. Coach Jim McElwain said Wednesday on a Southeastern Conference coaches' call that Mornhinweg had left the program. He's the fifth scholarship quarterback to leave Florida in the last 30 months, following Jacoby Brissett (North Carolina State), Max Staver (Tyler Junior College), Tyler Murphy (Boston College) and Jeff Driskel (Louisiana Tech).

New signs announcing I-69 proudly to the world will subsequently be erected along in-town stretches of the freeway, where they’ll likely be targeted for pointed display in neighborhood bars, strip clubs, or dorm rooms. Once complete, I-69 will connect the highway’s head at the Canadian border in Port Huron, Michigan, to its tail along the Mexican border, where it will spread into 3 separate paths to Laredo, McAllen, and Brownsville. Planners hope the availability of a smooth, continuous ride from north to south and back again along the eventual federally sanctioned route (sometimes called the NAFTA Superhighway) will stimulate and ease trade among the entwined nations. But how ready are locals to get on board with the new designation? Soon high school seniors will start receiving their college acceptance letters. This week’s issue of The Economist has an article discussing the results of a PayScale study of the relationship between the financial return on investment (ROI) of a college degree with the selectivity of the college itself. The two trendlines above support the conclusion that what you study matters far more than where you study it. The flatness of the lines show that selectively doesn’t improve ROI much for degrees of the same major, while the gap between them shows that the type of major has a significant effect on average future salary.

Engineers and computer scientists do best, earning an impressive 20-year annualised return of 12% on their college fees (the S&P 500 yielded just 7.8%). Engineering graduates from run-of-the-mill colleges do only slightly worse than those from highly selective ones. Business and economics degrees also pay well, delivering a solid 8.7% average return. Courses in the arts or the humanities offer vast spiritual rewards, of course, but less impressive material ones. Some yield negative returns. An arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art had a hefty 20-year net negative return of $92,000, for example.

Take from this data what you will, but perhaps it will soothe the pain of rejections and help relieve the societal pressure to get a “brand name” degree.
