There is a dinosaur named after Harry Potter!

Dracorex hogwartsia or just Dracorex is a dinosaur genus of the family Pachycephalosauridae. His name means “dragon king of Hogwarts” and it was named such as a tribute to dragons (which it resembles) and the world of Harry Potter!

These were discovered in the Hell Creek Formation in South Dakota by three amateur paleontologists from Iowa. They described it as an herbivore, with a skull with spiky horns, bumps, and a long muzzle.Besides it's flat, nodal skull, the most prominent feature of Dracorex is the pair of huge unrestricted superior temporal openings!

The name itself however, was inspired not by the paleontologists, but by young visitors to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis as a tribute to both dragons (Dracorex means “dragon king”), which the dinosaur resembles, as well as the Harry Potter series of books (Hogwartsia for the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the fictional school from the awesome series).

So yes, Harry Potter has contributed to science! How awesome is that?

New Nintendo 3DS and XL ⊟

Just when you thought this week couldn’t get any wilder, Nintendo goes and reveals a new 3DS and XL model for Japan. Europe will also receive the new portables next year, according to CVG. If we get a U.S. release date, I expect it to be for 2015.

The new line also has a new stick-ish button on the right side that replaces the need for a Circle Pad Pro, a more powerful CPU, improved 3D viewing angles, Super Famicom-esque colored ABXY buttons, two additional shoulder buttons, NFC support (for Amiibos!), improved battery life (up to 6 hours on 3DS, 7 hours on XL), and HTML5 support for the built-in browser. It also now uses Micro SDs instead of SD cards. Check out the removable back!

The standard system features a 3.88-inch top screen (compared to the 3.53-inch top screen in the original 3DS), while the new XL screen is the same as the old one at 4.88 inches. Both release in Japan on October 11, alongside new charging docks. The standard edition 3DS comes in White or Black for ¥16000 ($154), while the XL in Metallic Blue or Black will go for ¥18800 ($181).

The inventor of the snapshot camera committed suicide. His note said "my work is done, why wait."

His name was George Eastman. He was the inventor of the first Kodak snapshot camera. You might recognize the name he gave to it: the Kodak camera. In addition to being one of the first brand names invented from nonsense syllables, it also sparked a photographic revolution that is still strong today.

He was able to simplify the photography process and create a product that everyone was able to use. He also pioneered a system in which employees of the company got dividends, essentially making them part-owners of the company. Sadly, when he was 77, he had spinal stenosis, which is a narrowing of the spinal canal. The pain for him was pretty big.

He decided to commit suicide by shooting himself in the heart. He left a short and simple note: "To my friends: My work is done. Why wait?"

I didn’t really appreciate what a huge impact Robin Williams had on my youth until he was gone. Growing up in the early 90s meant I was caught in the middle of Williams’ family-friendly hit streak. Hook, Jumanji, Aladdin and Mrs. Doubtfire were huge movies for me. I watched them all many times over, especially Aladdin. Like thousands of other fans, it’s been a joy to relive the memories of my youth by watching all of my favourite Williams movies over the past two weeks.

There are so many great obituaries and tributes online at the moment, but in my opinion, if you want to get a real glimpse of what Williams was like, I recommend you listen to his WTF Podcast interview with Marc Maron from 2010. It’s an extremely honest and interesting conversation, and you can tell Williams is just being himself (very quiet and soft-spoken) and isn’t trying to be ‘on’.

I had no idea how to approach doing a comic about Williams until I read that he was a huge video game fan. In fact, he was so obsessed with the original Nintendo system and games that he named his daughter Zelda. Here’s a TV ad Williams and his daughter appeared in to promote Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo DS. Over 100,000 people have signed a petition asking Nintendo to name a character in the upcoming Zelda game after Williams. Here’s hoping they will. And in case they don’t, I’ve decided to pay my own 8-bit tribute to the great man.
