Ponies Around the World 2014 - Submissions Day 1

by Sethisto
Lrbever

Out of 600 submissions, mine is 86 on day 1! YAY!

Ancient temples, nuclear reactors, giant mountain peaks, and more.  This year was an awesome Ponies Around the World! I think summer break and longer deadlines was a good choice, because 2014 blew all the others out of the water!

Similar to last year, we will be splitting this up into sets of 100 daily.  All in all, we had 600 submissions, though it may drop once we finish getting all of the duplicates and rule breakers cleaned up.  If you sent yours to the submit box instead due to issues with the submitter, they will be added near the end.

Hopefully you all had some fun! Now go travel the world WITH PONIES. 100 Locations below the break!

Dear Lesbians at the Hotel Pool,

Lrbever

Straight people do this all the time and it's not a problem, ugh.

Dear Lesbians at the Hotel Pool,

As much as I agree with gay rights, do you really thinks it is appropriate to basically dry hump each other when my two year old and 7 year old are watching?

Sincerely, Mommy! I want to play with them.

8 Interesting Facts About Bacon

8 Interesting Facts About Bacon

In today’s day and age, when eating healthy is all the rage, bacon often gets a bad rap. However, every argument, just like every piece of bacon, has two sides. Here are 8 interesting facts about bacon you might not know.

1. Hangover Cure

Sure, drinking water after a binge can help cleanse your system, but consuming bacon can also help cure a hangover. The next time you go a little too far in your celebrations, try some good ol’ bacon the next day. It contains amino acids, which can help clear your head.

2. It Can Be Addictive

If you’re a bacon fan, you might have already suspected that it can be addictive. Well, it is. It contains several forms of umami, which produces positive brain reactions. Go too crazy on your consumption, and you might end up in bacon rehab – so tread carefully.

3. It’s Heart Healthy

Foods like salmon and walnuts contain a lot of omega-3 fatty acids, and so does bacon. While you’re not likely to find it on many lists of heart-healthy foods, it can actually be beneficial. These acids reduce your risk of heart disease.

4. Improves Your Energy Level

Bacon also naturally contains B vitamins, which can help with your energy levels. The next time you get that after-lunch sleepiness, munch on a little bacon. It’s a great way to finish up your work day strong.

5. No Trans Fat

We all know bacon has fat, but at least it doesn’t contain the worst kind—trans fat. That can shoot your cholesterol level through the roof and clog your arteries. You don’t have to worry about it when you’re consuming bacon.

6. It’s Popular in Britain, Too

According to a recent poll, a bacon sandwich was voted Britain’s most popular snack. The English prefer to eat it in the form of a Bacon Sarnie or Bacon Butty—bacon slices loaded onto white bread or baguettes and topped with tomato or brown sauce (ketchup and Worcestershire sauce mixed). Go international next time you make a bacon sandwich—you just might be surprised.

7. Bacon Bits Don’t Contain Bacon

The next time you’re looking to feed your bacon fix, don’t grab the nearest bacon bits jar. You might get bacon flavor, but not the real thing. Some of the main ingredients in bacon bits are soy flour, soy bean oil, salt, and dried yeast. Save these for your vegetarian friends—they’re just not real bacon.

8. Pregnancy

Are you pregnant? Bacon can help achieve a healthy pregnancy. It contains choline, a chemical known to benefit fetal brain development.

There is a woman with TWO sets of DNA in one body. Tests revealed she is TWO people! She is what doctors call a Chimera

There is a woman with TWO sets of DNA in one body. Tests revealed she is TWO people! She is what doctors call a Chimera

When Karen, a middle aged mother of three living outside Boston, heard she needed a kidney urgently, her two eldest sons and her husband went to have DNA tests done.

But then what should have been a routine procedure ended up leading to a remarkable story.

The boys were not a match to their mother’s DNA!

They matched the dad, but the tests showed Karen was not their mom, even though she gave birth to them.

This was a first for doctors and they decided to take samples not only from her blood, but also from her thyroid, saliva, skin, hair, urine and internal organs.

The findings blew everybody away. Karen has two sets of DNA. She is two people. But how?

Karen's mother was pregnant with twin girls, and within the first four days of the pregnancy, the two embryos fused into one unit. The twins did not blend into one person – they just claimed different parts.

One twin claimed the blood and the other claimed the thyroid, and so on, but they each have their own unique DNA. So Karen is actually a plural, or what is referred to as a Chimera. If it happened after four days, she would have been a Siamese twin.

One of the twins therefore gave birth to the two boys, but it was not the twin who ‘claimed’ the blood.

Dr. Seuss' pen name was created when he was caught drinking gin in college!

Dr. Seuss' pen name was created when he was caught drinking gin in college!

Authors use pen names for various reasons.

Dr. Seuss, author of the classics ‘Green Eggs and Ham,’ ‘Horton Hears a Who!’ and ‘The Cat in the Hat,’ among many others, is one of the more well-known authors to use one.

The story behind the name synonymous for children’s stories may not be quite as good as one of his books, but it’s pretty close!

Theodore Seuss Geisel enrolled in Dartmouth University in the early 1920’s where he joined the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and became a member of the humor magazine Dartmouth Jack-O-Lantern, eventually rising to the rank of editor-in-chief.

During his time at Dartmouth, Geisel was caught drinking gin with nine friends in his room. As a result, his dean insisted that he resign from all extracurricular activities, including the college humor magazine.

To get around his ban, he started submitting works signed “Seuss” which he soon changed to “Dr. Suess,” a name he would keep for a long time.

Despite being known for Dr. Seuss, Theodore Geisel had another pen name.

For books that Geisel wrote and others illustrated, he used the pen name "Theo LeSieg," “LeSieg” being "Geisel" spelled backward. One example of this is ‘I Wish That I Had Duck Feet,’ published in 1965.

In Finland, there’s a heavy metal band for children.

Lrbever

In Finland, there’s a heavy metal band for children.

You’re never too young to rupture your ear drums. Hevisaurus is a Finnish heavy metal children’s music band, who dress in dinosaur costumes. The band was started by Thunderstone drummer Mirka Rantanen. Their first album, Kings of Jurassic Metal, was on the Finnish Album charts for 10 weeks.

Now, you’ll never guess where this band came from. According to the Hevisaurus back-story, the band members were hatched from five metal eggs that had lain buried in a mountain from 65 million years in the past. Lightning and witch spells apparently unearthed the eggs and brought them to life.
