One of the main highlights of our Sunday at Toy Fair NY was our participation in the Mattel Collector Event during the afternoon. We saw new TIE Fighter and Millennium Falcon Elite Die Cast vehicles and a large assortment of their new Hot Wheels Battle Rollers, which included several characters from May’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. We also saw the new Darth Vader Play Case that comes packaged with an exclusive Vader TIE Advance X1 Prototype Battle Roller.
But the main course was something that wasn’t even on display. One of the Mattle brand managers had four new Hot Wheels Character Cars opened and stashed away in his pockets. He took each car out and “displayed” it in the palm of his hand as photographers gathered around to snap photos. Yes, we are well aware of the “Mattel literally had you eating out of the palm of their hand” jokes. The real topper? Three of the Character Cars featured characters from the Solo film. We got to see Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian. The fourth car was of bounty hunter IG-88.
