I will miss it... now there's just "Parks and Rec" for me to laugh at (sorry, "Community").

TNT Cancels Southland

Damn you, Lyons. I agree.

After earning a Peabody Award and then airing one of the most gripping episodes of TV in years, Southland has been canceled. TNT announced today that its little-watched cop drama would cruise the streets of Los Angeles no more, which means the series ended on quite a cliffhanger. (John Cooper, ... More »

Last Night on Late Night: Nick Offerman's Personalized Reading of Tweets by Miley Cyrus, Amanda Bynes, Carly Rae Jepsen

by Caroline Shin
Jesshelga

I know I say this every time, but: damn, Nick Offerman looks good in the offseason of P&R.

Last night on Conan, Nick Offerman interpreted tweets authored by celebrity ingenues, Miley Cyrus (who loves her bitches), Amanda Bynes (who was hungry), and Carly Rae Jepsen (whose sneezes sound like Snow White's). Plus: Jimmy Kimmel had select actors read mean tweets about themselves. For instance, Zach Braff read, "Hey ... More »

Gratuitous Dog Pictures

by Anne
Jesshelga

Fannnnntastic. And they're both from the Vito Brigade!

Or.... How can I limit this to less than 50 pictures of my dogs?

I keep meaning to participate in Maggie's Runner Photo Challenges, I swear, but I keep forgetting to actually post these things.  But how could I pass up a chance to share tons of dog pictures?

I never had a dog growing up because my mom was terrified of them (my brother and I now have 5 big dogs between the two of us, so she's gotten over that!) but always wanted one.  Bob grew up with a dog, so when we decided to move in together in the summer of 2008 we knew one thing for sure: our new apartment had to let us have a dog.

With Jude on his first night with us

We moved into our first apartment in August of that year.  Before we could even get everything unpacked, our friend Kathy, a volunteer with the rescue group New Leash on Life told Bob they had just rescued a dog that would be perfect for us.  So we went to an adoption event held in a Whole Foods parking lot, and that's where we met Jude.  There were a couple other families interested in him, but I fell so in love with him, I dog-blocked and basically didn't let anyone else pet him or hang out with him.  Woops.  Jude was about a year old, and his old owners had apparently tied him up in their yard and left him outside for a while before he ended up with animal control.  His ears were covered in fly bites and he was afraid of being in the shelter, so he didn't socialize with other dogs.  Because of all of that, he likely would have been put down if NLOL hadn't come to the rescue.  These are the types of dogs they pull out of shelters - those who probably won't be adopted, but have so much potential.  Jude is a wonderful dog, so we have no idea why anyone would treat him so poorly and not want him, but it was our gain.  He came to live with us a couple days later.

Jude appreciates the finer things in life

He's also kind of a hoarder

And he knows how to find flattering lighting
He's happy to help Bob strength-train

He hates baths
He loves sitting on our heads (which isn't funny, except for here, where it's hilarious)

And playing in the snow

And he loves brewery tours (okay, he's never been on the tour, but he's gone inside to buy growlers with us)

After moving into our condo in 2011, we decided to add to our little family again.  I had read about a dog, Kameko, in the NLOL newsletter, and I really wanted to go meet her.  She was 6 years old and had a wonderful home for the past 5 years, but her owner had to move overseas and couldn't take her with him.  That just broke my heart.  So we walked Jude over to the adoption event to see if they would get along, and the rest was history.

Obligatory dog-in-my-lap on the first night picture

Meko loves helping out in the kitchen (don't worry, she didn't actually lick that turkey)
She also really loves going for car rides.  She spends most of the time hanging out the window, but also paces back and forth across the back seat (which Jude loves, obviously), and likes to help navigate
She's always on the lookout
And unlike Jude, Meko loves baths
It took a little time for Jude to warm up to Meko

He was curious about her right away
But they get along pretty well now
They wake us up every morning as a team (on weekends, a very loud, obnoxious team)

They let me put stupid holiday costumes on them
And they both really love naps (but who doesn't?)
I just couldn't imagine my life without these pups

The final picture count is only 32.  Phew!  At least I didn't go overboard :)
Did you grow up with pets?  How do your pets make you laugh?

PROJECT RUNWAY....Judging the Season 12 Los Angeles Castings with Tim Gunn + Tim Eats his FIRST In-N-Out!

by Nick Verreos
Jesshelga

Prepare thyself for the final photo.

Tie Brothers: Tim Gunn and Nick Verreos--Season 12 Project Runway Los Angeles Castings

This past Monday, I had the honor of being invited/asked to co-judge the L.A. Castings of Lifetime Network's Season 12 Project Runway! Yes kids, TWELVE seasons...and I was on Season TWO! I feel as if that was a CENTURY ago! Nevertheless, I was honored. I've actually judged the Castings for the past TEN seasons (!) so as they say, this was not my "first time at the Rodeo!".

The Project Runway Casting "Caravan" has been to Seattle, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, and then they came to Los Angeles! Upon arriving to the Bunim-Murray offices--where the castings were being held--I got the verklempt when I saw they had an actual reserved parking spot with my name on it:

Welcome Nick--Yeayyy, I finally got my name on a parking space! (I know, it was hand written and would be erased in a few hours....but it's the small things that make me happy!)

For this L.A. Casting, I was joined by Marie Claire's Fashion Editor-at-Large and Los Angeles Ambassador to the British Fashion Council, the very chic Alison Edmond, as well as Project Runway's Mentor Extraordinaire, Mr. Tim Gunn:

Ready to Judge: (left to right), Marie Claire's Alison Edmond, Tim Gunn and Nick Verreos--Project Runway Season 12 LA Castings

First off, this was my first time meeting Alison Edmond and she was so WONDERFUL: I had decided to wear my TopMan shawl-collared purple suit and I LOVED that she had a shawl-collared jacket on as well! Oh, and yes, she was also very sweet! Now, onto Tim: it's been a while since Tim has been part of the casting process so it was a nice treat to see him again and well, be sitting next to him as I kicked him under the table! It was also nice to see all the Full Picture, Weinstein, Lifetime and Bunin-Murray "peeps" during the castings: Love 'em all!

My "Project Runway Season 12" Casting Book--this book includes secrets that I cannot divulge...

Project Smiles: (left to right) Tim Gunn, Jane Cha Cutler: Executive Producer and Executive Vice President of Full Picture, Nick Verreos--Project Runway Season 12 L.A. Castings

The In-N-Out Lunch Break:
So...for lunch--in between castings sessions--we got a SURPRISE: We could have a salad or sandwiches from a local place or...In-N-Out! Naturally, I chose In-N-Out because I have it like once a year and sometimes (once a year) I like to feel as if I am a 18 year old who can afford to eat In-N-Out (calorie-wise!)...

Nick's Order Is Here: In-N-Out Animal Style Double Double with fries--I was glad that I wasn't the only one ordering In-N-Out when we all pressed (no, actually FORCED!) Tim Gunn to get some In-N-Out, citing how AMAZING it is! So, with no further ado...presenting Tim Gunn about to have his FIRST EVER In-N-Out Animal Style Double Double:

YUMMM!! Tim Gunn about to eat his very first In-N-Out Animal Style Double Double---In case you're wondering, Tim LOVED his In-N-Out Burger! He said (and I quote) "Did someone just make this one minute ago??" He ate it in 2 minutes flat! (maybe less!).

In-N-Out was delicious and oh, yes, we saw a lot of talented designers at the L.A. Castings and look out for a GREAT Season 12 of Project Runway! I have a feeling that some of the season's designers/contestants will come from these L.A. Castings...

How Jon Hamm Became America’s Sexiest Comedy Nerd

by Jesse David Fox,Nick Robins-Early
Jesshelga

Probably only interesting to Amanda, who is not over here, but I thought it was super cool. He is humble, hilarious, has great taste, and is fucking sexy to boot.

In 2007, Jon Hamm broke out as a major star as Mad Men’s deadly serious Don Draper. Those who discovered him on the AMC show were surprised when the man who epitomized dark confidence and effortless cool showed his goofball side in a 2009 guest arc on 30 Rock; it was like ... More »
