I propose a different kind of software canon: Not about specific moments in time, or about a specific product, but rather about works of technology that transcend the upgrade cycle, adapting to changing rhythms and new ideas, often over decades.
As with everything Paul writes, it's worth clicking through to read the rest.

April 29th, 2014: Today may well be the first day since my surgery that I don't take painkillers! The only pain left in me is the pain that cannot be killed (i.e.: I've had the Power Rangers theme song stuck in my head for several days) One year ago today: spending as much time thinking about ghosts as i assume ghosts spend thinking about me – Ryan

Scooby-Doo and the gang wouldn’t be the same without their trusty Mystery Machine. Cosplayer Lyght Strife decided to take the colors from the familiar vehicle and transform it into a set of Iron Man armor, and it totally works. His friend Desiree Cosplay joined in on the fun by becoming Velma, and the duo took their creative costumes to Wizard World St. Louis!

Jesus says:

I was hoping to write out some long, eloquent thing for Easter, but I’m struggling today and I couldn’t think of what to say. So I said a prayer for help, and I just felt a comforting embrace and I knew He was with me. That is what Easter is for me- a reminder that because of the Savior, we are never far from comfort. Because of His atonement, He knows all of our pain and all of our struggles. He felt them first. Because of Him, we are never alone.

Time Out polled more than 100 experts to find the 100 best animated movies. Here's the top 10 (minus the top pick...you'll have to click through for that):
10. Fantastic Mr. Fox
9. The Nightmare Before Christmas
8. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
7. The Iron Giant
6. Dumbo
5. The Incredibles
4. Toy Story
3. My Neighbor Totoro
2. Spirited Away
I'm delighted to see Fantastic Mr Fox on the list...it's an underrated effort by Wes Anderson that will continue to grow in esteem as the years pass. No Wall-E in the top 10 though? I don't know about that. It clocks in at #36, behind Chicken Run (the least of Aardman's efforts in my mind) and Up, which is maybe my least favorite Pixar film. (via @garymross)
Tags: best of Chicken Run Fantastic Mr. Fox lists movies Up Wall-ENASA astronaut Steve Swanson recently posted the first Instagram from space. Yes, even astronauts take selfies (hey, it probably gets boring up there). He’s posed in the International Space Station, and you can see Earth behind him. That’s all awesome, but please note the t-shirt he’s wearing. It features Serenity and says “Shipping & Logistics: Everything’s Shiny.” (A white or silver version of the shirt is available here).
And the Firefly design isn’t the only geeky tee he brought on board; he also snapped a selfie while donning a Star Trek t-shirt with the Klingon Empire symbol. Yes, he is that cool
See the Klingon tee after the break.

Why can't I edit my tweets?! Twitter should allow that.
It's so simple right? CRUD apps (Create, Read, Update, and Delete) are app-building 101! What a gross oversight. But wait. Just as a fun nerdy little exercise, let's think about what a feature like this might take for the Twitter team. I don't work there or have any inside knowledge, so this is all hypothetical for the sake of understanding app development.
We could probably double that list on our own and that's just looking from the outside. Software is tough. Being smart and responsible with the features of that software is even tougher.
