For the first time ever, we just saw Apple launch two new iPhones on the same day. The company has already come forward to announce a total of 9 million new iPhones sold–taking into account both models… Any reasonable member of the media will say it’s far too early to declare either device the victor, but initial findings from analytics firm Localytics indicate the the iPhone 5s is off to a much hotter start that then iPhone 5c.
According to Localytics’ analysis of about 20 million unique iPhone connections, Apple has sold about 3.4 times as many iPhone 5s units as they have iPhone 5c. After reviewing usage of both mobile and web apps during the brief period the two new iPhone models have been available, Localytics offers this takeaway:
“In less than 3 days, the iPhone 5s and 5c combined now represent about 1.36% of the total numbers of all iPhones activated in the U.S. market across the top 4 carriers AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint and T-Mobile. From the data we are seeing, 1.05% of all iPhones in the United States are now iPhone 5S and just 0.31% are iPhone 5c.”
It doesn’t take much digging to get to one possible reason for the domination of the iPhone 5s… Early adopters tend to be the more enthusiastic, and thusly, those who are probably willing to spend a bit more to get Apple’s highest-end handset. Come holiday season of 2013, we expect the iPhone 5c will gain ground on the 5s, though to what degree is impossible to predict.
In addition to moving 9 million new devices on launch weekend alone, Apple has stated that 200 million devices are now running iOS 7–the latest iteration of the operating system driving every iPhone out there. Another analytics firm, Mixpanel, points out that it has only taken days for iOS 7 to surpass iOS 6.
Now we want to hear from you–how are you liking whichever iPhone you picked up over the weekend? Has your perception of iOS 7 changes since going hands on?
