During its Mobile World Congress press conference on Sunday, Samsung announced a brand new version of Gear VR for the Galaxy S6 and the GalaxyS 6 Edge. It’s still called the Gear VR Innovator Edition, but it has some tweaks from the original version (pictured above) that supports the Galaxy Note 4.
Samsung said the new Gear VR Innovator Edition is 15 percent smaller than the original and that consumers should expect it to be more comfortable thanks to redesigned straps, improved weight balance and new ventilation. It also has its own USB charging port, a feature that wasn’t on the original, so that you can use it longer without entirely relying on the phone’s battery. The new unit measures 196mm x 107.9mm x 82.9mm and features an accelerator, a gyrometer and proximity detection for mounting and unmounting the unit. The Gear VR Innovator Edition also has a 96-degree field of view.
Samsung didn’t provide a release date or pricing, but we expect it will cost about the same as the Gear VR for the Galaxy Note 4, which retails for $200.
