Patrick Rothfuss’ The Name of the Wind Coming to Television

by Stubby the Rocket

The Name of the Wind television Fox Marc Simonetti

Deadline has just announced that 20th Century Fox has optioned the television rights to Patrick Rothfuss’ epic fantasy trilogy The Kingkiller Chronicles to develop into an ongoing series. Eric Heisserer (Hours, The Thing) is attached to adapt the series as its executive producer.

The show will begin with the events of The Name of the Wind and follow through the other two books in the trilogy. No word yet on how the show will otherwise be structured, or if they will incorporate aspects of Rothfuss’ planned works after the Kingkiller trilogy.

“anyone can write something readable, but it takes TRUE talent to draw something good”

In my experience, drawing is much easier than writing.  That’s why I can do it when my brain is half dead or I’m on medication.  It still takes a lot of correction, but you really correct based on learned behaviors, because something “doesn’t look right."

Writing requires a great deal of thought at all stages in the operation.  Most of the critical thought in art is put in at the outset, in deciding what to make of a piece, how to construct it, what one’s intentions are.

But perhaps this is so obvious to me because I am much better at writing than I am at drawing.  At drawing and painting I am passable at best, and I will never create a brilliant, sublime work.

With writing, I am quite good enough to realize just how difficult everything is.  My scope of possibilities is much, much larger.

I would also like to point out that “writing something readable" is in no way equivalent to “drawing something good" [sic].  "Writing something readable" is equivalent to “drawing something recognizable" — which just about any person with a basic education can do.

It’s Full-Out Robots Vs. Monsters in New Pacific Rim Trailer

by Stubby the Rocket

Pacific Rim new trailer

This new footage from Pacific Rim is BIG and gives us the most robot versus monster action of any of the trailers yet. We get the feeling that this will be one of those movies to see in the theater, otherwise the full effect might be lost.
