Golden Ratio Coloring Book

1.618. It's mathematical elegance. Nature's magic number for patterns, precision, and beauty. The Golden Ratio. And now, thanks to Venezuelan architect and illustrator Rafael Araujo, it's a coloring book.

Using no more than a pencil, compass, ruler, and protractor, Araujo has spent the last 40 years putting his vision of the golden ratios around him to paper. His illustrations include chambered nautilus shells, butterfly wings, and geometric gridded sequences, and each has taken him up to 100 hours to perfect. All are available to purchase individually as decorative pieces from his website.

The Golden Ratio Coloring Book, seeking funding on Kickstarter just through today, April 28, 2016, is Araujo's response to his fans' requests for prints to color. The book will have a bound soft cover that opens flat and holds 20 black-and-white renditions of the artist's most notable illustrations. Pages will be detachable, with just 1 illustration per page, for clean removal of your own masterpiece post-coloring.

Golden Ratio paper is to be acid-free, thick 270 gsm archival to prevent drawings from yellowing. It is suitable for use with most coloring implements, including pencil, crayon, gel pens, ink, markers, pastels, water colors, and gouache.

German shepherd helps rescue children from burning home

Authorities in central Florida say a German shepherd helped firefighters locate the two young children of his owners in heavy smoke as a blaze destroyed their home.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the dog named Maxx helped firefighters find the 4-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl Monday night in their home in the Orlando suburb, Longwood.

Child porn suspect jailed indefinitely for refusing to decrypt hard drives

A Philadelphia man suspected of possessing child pornography has been in jail for seven months and counting after being found in contempt of a court order demanding that he decrypt two password-protected hard drives.

The suspect, a former Philadelphia Police Department sergeant, has not been charged with any child porn crimes. Instead, he remains indefinitely imprisoned in Philadelphia’s Federal Detention Center for refusing to unlock two drives encrypted with Apple’s FileVault software in a case that once again highlights the extent to which the authorities are going to crack encrypted devices. The man is to remain jailed “until such time that he fully complies” with the decryption order.

The suspect’s attorney, Federal Public Defender Keith Donoghue, urged a federal appeals court on Tuesday to release his client immediately, pending the outcome of appeals. “Not only is he presently being held without charges, but he has never in his life been charged with a crime,” Donoghue wrote in his brief to the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals.

April 27th 2016 - /r/bizarrebuildings: A box standing on its corner, intersecting a pancake. There's no place like home

4420 readers doing stuff for 0 year and 45 days

We don't normally feature such new subs. At less than 2 months old, this one is brand spanking new, but the eye candy is fantastic. Besides, Reddit is a world that evolves quickly, and ya have to keep your fingers on the pulse. Many redditors are showing an interest in /r/bizarrebuildings, and so, today, shall we.

Thanks to advances in building materials, a more spohisticated understanding of shape, severely beefed up tools for design and visualizations, and apparently a wish for funky, emblematic landmarks in the architect'e portfolio, the world has been seeing some quite unexpected shapes on the skyline. Frankly, it's a pleasure.

Here is a great one from the
South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute. And behold the
Dancing House of Prague., or
The Interlace in Singapore. They aren't all modern either.
Chand Baori is vast and very impressive. Perhaps more of a well than a building, it stems from 1200 years ago, in Rajasthan, India. Here's a
snakey building.

We spoke with creator /u/malgoya, to tell us a thing or two about his sub.

Spill it:

/u/malgoya:
It's bizarro!

Since the creation of r/evilbuildings, I've been on the hunt for more villainous lairs. In the process, I've come across some really awesome buildings that just weren't really evil but still needed to be shared. In addition to that, I found there wasnt a particular subreddit just for crazy one of a kind buildings. In response to this, I created r/bizarrebuildings.

Since I was a child, I've always been fascinated with architecture. The way the cards folded, I was never able to pursue my passion but have always kept a special spot in my heart for awesome unique buildings. I really love architects that try to push the envelope with new ideas or technology. I hate seeing the same old cookie cutter buildings that have no originality to them.

My basic outlook is this: If I am able to inspire and engage at least just one young mind to further their pursuits in building awesome structures, i will certainly feel rewarded. We must engage our youth to be the driving force with not only architecture but new technologies in general. Every person is unique in their own way and sometimes were able to express that in a semi-permanent way.

Hope y'all enjoy it. There will be lots more awesome unique buildings to come!

You bet!
Here's one for the collection, from Rotterdam, if I remember correctly. I stood underneath them a long time ago. it was ... bizarre!

A nice presence on your front page among all the WTF vids and nauseous political propaganda orgies, /r/bizarrebuildings gives a taste of the successfully unconventional buildings that break up the battery of normality we were used to.

Google Calendar adds ‘Find a time’ feature to make scheduling meetings even easier

by Evan Selleck

Google Calendar continues to bring new features to the table to make it even easier to use and also make it easier for you to schedule your busy days.

Google has officially announced a new feature called “Find a time,” which is built specifically for Google Apps for Work and Edu users. It’s a pretty simple concept: Simply tap on the Find a time button and Google Calendar will automatically pick out a time that works best for an upcoming meeting, for yourself and for anyone else that’s invited to the meeting.

The app looks through the availability of you and those invited and then picks a few different times for you to select as the final meeting date and time. You’ll be able to see colleagues’ schedules, too.

For the situations where someone’s schedule is just too cramped to make it work, “Find a time” will work to tell you who has the conflicting times and work on a reschedule.

Google is positioning the new feature for Work and Edu users for now, because those groups frequently share their calendars with one another for scheduling purposes. The new feature is rolling out for Android users beginning today.

What do you think of the feature?

Woman Causes 10 Car Pileup After Seeing Jesus In Her Kit Kat

Marlo Thomas, 33, says she was traveling south on the I-15 when she suddenly began craving sweets.

“I unwrapped the package, took a bite, and couldn’t believe what I saw. It was Jesus! I mean, right there, Jesus in my candy bar! It was like he was telling me I am chosen. So I closed my eyes and started praying, thanking Jesus for His revelation.”

Car crash caused by Jesus

According to Thomas, it was during her “prayer time” that she slammed into the car in front of her at a speed of 75 mph. That car proceeded to hit several other cars in front of it that were at a traffic standstill due to an accident 2 miles ahead.

The Return Of Hi-C Ecto Cooler Is Now Official

by Sean Fallon

ectocoolerThe rumors were true. We’ve just received the official word from Coca-Cola that Hi-C Ecto Cooler is making a comeback to coincide with the upcoming release of the new Ghostbusters film.

This cult favorite beverage from the ’80s and ’90s (not to mention the favorite choice of my mother for school lunches) will be available nationwide in 6 oz juice boxes and 11.5 oz cans (with “thermal ink that turns an eerie shade of slime green when the product inside is cold”) starting on May 30th.

The Google Play Store Is Coming to Chromebooks

by Joey-Elijah Sneddon

chrome apk tileIf you have a good memory you might just be able to recall ARC apps, Google’s (rather muted) initiative to get Android apps running on Chrome OS¹.

The ARC project brought us Vine and Viber, Evernote, a PDF editor and, er, a cooking social network. A bunch of other, lesser-known Android apps were also welcomed in to the Chrome Web Store.

Over the past year or so the ARC project has appeared dead. Promised apps like Flipboard, Kindle and others never arrived. From looking at the Chrome Web Store you’d conclude the project had hit a dead end.

But it turns out there’s a reason why so few Android apps have been added to the Chrome Web Store.

It’s because Google Play is coming to Chromebooks.

Via Reddit

Google Play Store on Chromebooks

You’ve got to love Reddit, because it’s there that this potentially awesome news bite surfaced.

Redditor TheWiseYoda uncovered up some recent code that adds a new ‘Enable Android Apps to run on your Chromebook’ option to Chrome OS settings.

Nothing hugely new there, you might think. After all, the ARC app project was announced ages ago, and there’s an Android apps section on the Chrome Web Store.

But inside the code commit is something new: reference to the Google Play Store.

Enable Android Apps to run on your Chromebook …Google Play Store – Over a million apps and games now available on your Chromebook.

The Google Play Store? Oh yes!

The code references a new option that will appear in the Settings section of Chrome OS. When turned on it lets you install Android apps on Chromebook from the Google Play Store.

You will have to “opt in” and agree to Google Play Terms and Services, but after this the complete Google Play Store, and more than ‘a million apps and games’, or so says the code reference, will be available to you on your Chromebook.

No more waiting for a wave of (largely mediocre) apps to be uploaded to the Chrome Web Store!

This feature could be something Google is planning to announce at Google I/O — and is likely to be part of its effort to keep Chrome OS attractive (and relevant) to users in the face of multi-window, desktop-style features arriving in Android N.

But it’s also possible that not every Chromebook currently available will support this, as some older, lower-powered Chromebooks struggle to run the Android Apps for Chrome that are already available — and some cannot run them at all.

Excited?

¹ ARC apps could also run on Windows, Mac and Linux
