Coming Distractions: Trailer: The Hangover Part III
firehoseuhh

After a rather lackluster response that nevertheless generated hundreds of millions of dollars to the second Hangover, the third (and ostensibly final) film of the series finally does away with what was holding The Hangover back: the hangover. As promised, the now-predictable formula of Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis waking from a party-induced blackout to retrace their steps has been done away with, replaced with that trio retracing their steps in a far more lucid, though still somewhat self-referential way. Familiar landmarks abound in this trailer—Las Vegas, Heather Graham—but there are also some newer, crazier forms of craziness involving Galifianakis finally ending up in a mental hospital, an equally psychotic John Goodman, and the insane gamble of a Hangover movie where Ken Jeong keeps his clothes on. Also, the part of Justin Bartha will now be played by a giraffe.

Hey, what did you and your friends do the last time you all got together? Have some drinks, play some board games, maybe stage a stuffy Shakespeare adaptation that brought nothing new to a text that hadn’t already been ham-fistedly ladled on by centuries of community theater troupes? Well, Joss Whedon threw himself a little house party with all his TV friends like Alexis Denisof, Amy Acker, Tom Lenk, Fran Kranz, and Nathan Fillion, and they also drank and possibly played board games, and then they brought a hip, jazzy, gangstered-up sensibility to the Bard’s Much Ado About Nothing. Then Whedon captured it all on film and released it so you can see Fred and Wesley reunited, and wonder why your own parties can’t be this fun or smartly interpretive.
Read moreTV: Newswire: Nation relieved to learn that Judge Reinhold will return for Beverly Hills Cop TV show

With each passing update on CBS’ Beverly Hills Cop series, the absence of Judge Reinhold became more deeply felt. After all, a Beverly Hills Cop TV series without Judge Reinhold is, dare we say, a pointlessly opportunistic exploitation of an established comedy brand in watered-down CBS procedural form that does not have Judge Reinhold. But apparently we need worry nor concoct absurd explanations about a coked-up Judge Reinhold waging a scorched-earth war against co-star John Ashton no more: The Wrap reassures us that Reinhold will be a part of at least the pilot, briefly reprising his role of Detective Billy Rosewood, who has “scored a big promotion from his old job.” So we can all relax. Presumably producers were forced to journey deep into the jungles to find Reinhold, approaching him after one of his daily stick-fights to convince him to come full circle and see the mission through. “Not ...

Disney is Not Planning Any More Hand-Drawn Animated Films
firehoseI guess that Oscar for Paperboy did the trick. Enjoy looking for work, animators
Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the animation studio responsible for classics like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, and The Lion King is not working on any hand-drawn animated films and currently has no plans to do so in the future, according to The Guardian. ”To my knowledge we’re not developing a 2D or hand-drawn feature animated film right now,” Iger revealed at a shareholders meeting. “We’re not necessarily ruling out the possibility [of] a feature but there isn’t any in development at the company at the moment.” Disney’s last two hand-drawn films were Winnie the Pooh (2011) and The Princess and the Frog (2009).

Hacking the Minecraft world
If you’re a Minecraft fan and a Pi owner, you’ve probably already downloaded a copy of Minecraft: Pi Edition. But are you getting the most out of the fact that you can modify the world with code in-game?
If you’re not sure where to start, or if you’re looking for ideas (sometimes being given a blank canvas can be lousy for getting the brain sparking), Martin O’Hanlon at the marvellous <Stuff about=”code” /> has several tutorials on Minecraft: Pi Edition, from installing the game to using the Minecraft API to build wonderful things, like magical bridges that appear where’er you walk, games of hide and seek, and in-game analogue clocks.
The hide and seek hack is easy and rewarding: with a little coding you’ll be able to get the game to hide a diamond somewhere in the world for you to find, and to give you hints of the warmer/colder variety.
You can find code and an explanation of what’s going on over at Stuff About…
And we’re all agreed that the clock is just brilliant (it’s also big enough that you can go and stand on the hands). Again, the project has its own page with code and a spot of discussion.
We’d love to see what you’ve been doing in Minecraft – take some video, or write something about your experiments on your own website, and let us know about it!
TV: Newswire: IFC adds new shows from Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, and Bob Odenkirk to its comedy lineup
firehoseBob Odenkirk variety show autoshare

Now that the “independent film” fad has finally been killed off and replaced with all cop and robot movies, IFC has increasingly turned to original comedy programming to fill its schedule. Now Portlandia, Comedy Bang! Bang!, and Marc Maron's WTF, et al. will be joined by two new shows—one from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, and another from Ben Stiller and Bob Odenkirk. The first , The Spoils Of Babylon, is a parody soap opera described as a “blowsy century-spanning saga” adapted from the fake best-selling novel by fake author Eric Jonrosh, to be really played by Ferrell, chronicling the lives and loves of a wealthy oil magnate’s family. The latter is the previously reported show Odenkirk was working up with L.A. sketch comedy troupe The Birthday Boys, described as in “the classic vein of absurd/silly/smart/funny variety shows like Monty Python’s Flying Circus ...

New Nintendo eShop releases: Pokemon Mystery Demo, Kersploosh
This is a good week to have a 3DS and an internet connection, with an overwhelming amount of downloadable stuff to enjoy. For free, there's a demo of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity (more of a gate to finity in the demo, we suppose); for relatively cheap, there's the new Kersploosh!, Virtual Console oldie Wrecking Crew, and a week-long discount on the excellent Sakura Samurai. There are also retail-ish releases, led by Renegade Kid's ATV Wild Ride 3D, a new 3DS update of a game originally released on DS. At $8, it's cheaper than retail. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D launches on eShop today as well.
