The ‘Friends’ reunion has an air date and a new teaser trailer
Hecate has been covering the stories about Friends because she’s a fan, but I wanted to cover this news as soon as it came out. The Friends reunion, which we know wrapped filming last month, now has a teaser trailer and and an air date. It’s going to premiere in less than two weeks, on May 27th! I’m not a big Friends watcher, although of course I saw it when it came out as I’m Gen-X. This has me mildly excited though, and I’ll definitely watch it. May 27th also happens to be the one year anniversary of HBO Max. Remember how much HBO Max paid to get the rights to Friends for five years? It was a whopping $400 million. No wonder they’re premiering this on their anniversary date. Here’s more, from Yahoo!
“Friends: The Reunion” will now debut on the one year anniversary of the launch of HBO Max and exactly one year after it was originally supposed to air. However, the special was delayed multiple times due to the production shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally set to film in February 2020 but was only able to begin filming in April.
It will feature Friends” stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer as they return to the iconic comedy’s original soundstage, Stage 24, on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank for an celebration of the beloved show. Sources close to the project told Variety last year that each of the six stars would receive at least $2.5 million for participating in the special.
It will also feature guest stars including: David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Elliott Gould, Kit Harington, Larry Hankin, Mindy Kaling, Thomas Lennon, Christina Pickles, Tom Selleck, James Michael Tyler, Maggie Wheeler, Reese Witherspoon and Malala Yousafzai.
That’s a great payday for the actors in a reunion special, not that any of these people have to work another day in their lives. I didn’t realize that all these guest stars were going to be in it either. I would say that I’ll be setting my DVR, but you don’t do that with HBO Max, do you? So many things have changed since Friends has aired. I hope they talk about where they think their characters will be now, in 2020. While I know this is just going to be everyone reminiscing and maybe acting in a single scene, I would watch the hell out of a reboot.
Here’s the teaser. It’s a little bit disappointing in that it’s just a slower version of the theme song with everyone walking away. I want to see clips! Maybe we’ll get a full trailer soon.

Couple Gets Married On Mount Everest After Trekking For 3-Weeks, And Their Wedding Photos Are Epic
It’s been said that love can move mountains, but one California couple has proven that it can also climb them. Ashley Schmeider and James Sisson felt that a run-of-the-mill wedding ceremony wasn’t right for them – so they decided to get married on Mount Everest instead. As you can probably guess, their wedding photos are monumentally epic.

32-year-old Ashley and 35-year-old James spent a whole year planning and training for the expedition, and it was no walk in the park when they finally arrived in Nepal in early March. Accompanied by their photographer, Charleton Churchill, it took them the better part of 3 weeks to reach the 17,000-foot-high Base Camp Everest, where they finally said their vows after braving deep snow, freezing temperatures, and altitude sickness together. Churchill’s photos of the unorthodox ceremony show a spectacular blend of rich blue, crisp white, and rugged stone.
Let’s hope this couple’s marriage pulls through harsh conditions as well as they do! Follow their compelling journey and see the fantastic final results below.

Day Old Otter Pup Falls Asleep On Its Floating Mother’s Belly
This footage of a one-day-old baby otters sleeping on his mother’s belly was captured by photographer Connie Levenhagen. The two were spotted in a pool outside the Monterey Bay Aquarium, in California.
“This baby sea otter was born in the ‘Great Tide Pool’ at the Monterey Bay Aquarium on 12/20/15,” said a zoo employee. “Her mom is a wild, Californian sea otter that sought refuge in the pool to shield her against other animals and the stormy day.”

What Politics Looks Like When You Delete Men From The Photos
Elle UK recently published a video showing how few women are in powerful positions around the world. The video is part of Elle’s greater #MoreWomen campaign, and was produced by Alex Holder and Alyssa Boni from RSA films. To make the film, pictures of political gatherings were Photoshopped to remove all men, leaving eerily empty rooms with only a few women.
“The story of how women in positions of strength continually support and empower each other is consistently ignored while the myth that we pit ourselves against each other perpetuates,” reads the #MoreWomen campaign page on Elle. “We want to change this narrative in our feminism issue and create a more positive conversation – to reflect the power of women, and to support and grow each other as we push for global equality.”

21 Photos Of Nature Winning The Battle Against Civilization
As solid and unshakable as we think our civilization is, its grip on nature is tenuous at best. If any cracks appear in the faces of our buildings or our machines, nature is quick to move in and take over. With this in mind, here are 21 photos of places and things that nature is in the process of reclaiming.
Quite a bit of thought has been given to the idea of what Earth might look like once we’re gone. Indeed, many books and TV shows on the topic have found that nature would take our places fairly quickly. Many cities would be re-colonized within a year or two, and many of our buildings would begin crumbling soon after without human maintenance or energy sources. The Life After People series on the History Channel has a comprehensive timeline of collapses detailing when various famous landmarks of human civilization throughout the world might give way to nature.

Woman Leaves City Life Behind To Photograph Australia’s Remotest Landscapes
Imagine leaving it all behind – leaving your boring city job and failed relationship behind to escape into the wild Australian outback and embrace your dreams. That’s exactly what nature and landscape photographer Julie Fletcher did 12 years ago when she left Sydney to take absolutely stunning photos of the Australian outback.
Fletcher’s photography captures the majestic beauty of Australia’s remote Southern region in all of its glory. She captures everything from haunting barren desert landscapes to beautiful beaches, and all the wildlife in between. Some of her photographs have received international recognition from the National Geographic and other prestigious organizations.
“There is nothing out there but at the same time there is so much if you just see and not just look,” she told Daily Mail. “This area has made me a better photographer by challenging me all the time. I am constantly looking for a different approach on the same subject.”

An 83-Year-Old Photographer Found A Box Labeled “Mothers” Full of Images He Took Almost 50 Years Ago
Ken Heyman, a renowned and award-winning people photographer, recently uncovered a nearly forgotten treasure in storage – a box labeled “Mothers” that had a beautiful series of images that he shot of mothers around the world nearly 50 years ago.
The 83-year-old photographer shot the images for Family, a book that he co-authored with renowned anthropologist Margaret Mead in 1965. Margaret Mead had been his professor at first, but they later wound up working together on this and other books and projects. Their anthropological collaboration is apparent in the images, as they document motherhood around the world, not just from any one culture’s perspective.

30 Cats Who Have Mastered The Art Of Sleep-Fu
Anyone who has a cat knows they have the marvelous ability to sleep wherever they want, however they want. These pictures will show you just how funny or weird their sleep positions can get.
There are quite a few peculiar facts about cat sleep. For instance, cats sleep for about 16 hours a day – that’s 6 years for a 9-year-old cat. Snoozing, from which they can freely wake up at any moment, takes about three quarters of their rest. Moreover, cats are crepuscular – meaning, that their most active hours are dusk and dawn.
Given how much they sleep, cats have plenty of time to try out some ridiculous positions and places to sleep. The apparent inconvenience of sleeping in a bowl or between books seems quite a normal thing if you need to stay alerted at any time and when you’re as flexible as they are. Most importantly, however, they are hilarious and adorable.

Americans Were Asked To Place European Countries On A Map. Here’s What They Wrote:
How sure are you of your geographical knowledge? Buzzfeed recently put Americans’ geographical knowledge to the test with a survey in which participants had to write in countries’ names on a blank European political map. Unfortunately, they didn’t fare too well, but some of their responses are hilarious (or hilariously mis-informed).
But don’t be so quick to judge Americans – when Buzzfeed posted a similar survey testing Brits’ knowledge of the 50 United States, they also came up short. On the one hand, knowing a country’s states is different from knowing independent countries, but on the other, some U.S. states are larger than some European nations, and some U.S. states have larger economies than some European nations.
The gaps in these survey-takers’ knowledge also speak to historical and political realities. Very few survey-takers could correctly identify the former Soviet satellites or the nations that make up the Balkan peninsula. Many of the nations in these areas haven’t been around (independently) for quite as long as their counterparts in less turbulent parts of Europe.
No matter what, though, we can all probably agree that there are at least a few Americans who should dust off the old atlas or geography textbook and check out what the world looks like across the pond!

How Do Animals Sound In Different Languages?
After Norwegian comedy singer duo Ylvis ignited the world’s interest in sounds that animals make with “What Does The Fox Say?,” other artists have begun exploring these questions more in-depth. English artist James Chapman has created a series of comics comparing how different languages around the world write down the sounds that some of our favorite animals make.
The panels are a delight to see, with bright colors and cute animals. The comparisons between languages are also interesting, no matter what your native language is. Depending on what language you speak, some of these can seem pretty wacky. As an English speaker, the Dutch horse sounds pretty funny to me (Vrinsk?), but I also admit that, with a lame showing like “oink,” we can use some work on our pig impressions. Mice, cats and bees, however, seem to have inspired international consensus on the sounds they make.
Chapman is a PhD physics student and illustrator from Manchester who runs a great Tumblr featuring more of his illustrations, as well as one just for animal sounds. Check them out to see some more great work!
What other languages do you know that have cool- or weird-sounding animal sounds?
