Archos GamePad 2 Officially Announced, With Quad Core CPU, High Resolution Screen
There has been some speculation about a new Archos gaming tablet coming to IFA 2013, but the device is launched only now, two weeks after the show. The Archos GamePad 2 is pictured below and it’s a real update to the first model.
The device recently passed through the FCC and it will have about the same size as the predecessor, but it will incorporate a higher resolution screen and faster CPU. There will also be more memory on board. GamePad 2 packs a 1.6 GHz quad core processor, that may well be a RK3188 chip, a 7 inch 1280 x 800 pixel IPS screen, 2 GB of RAM and 8 or 16 GB of storage.
There’s a microSD card slot on board and we’ve got the usual setup of D Pads and buttons built into the case for the sake of gaming. There’s no retail pricing yet, but you can buy 500 units for $170 each if you’re going wholesale. This means we may see the product in stores for about $200.

Octa-core HTC One with 3 GB of RAM could be on the way
Szdani88xd kevesen lattak azt a qualcomm videot
HTC has been in a tough spot for many quarters now. The One has been praised by many, but sales numbers have failed to impress. But the Taiwanese company isn’t giving up. In fact, it appears that it’s already working on an update to the One. Don’t think about this necessarily as the One’s successor, but more in terms of what last year’s One X+ was to the One X – a minor revision, yet one that comes with some interesting new innards.
The new HTC One is apparently going to sport an octa-core processor. This information comes via a leaked image sent to Greek website Tech Community. This image purportedly depicts the About screen for this model, and ‘Octa-core’ is clearly listed in the CPU field.
As nice as this may be to believe, keep in mind that it could be a fake. After all, such screens are incredibly easy to forge. Perhaps adding to this possibility is the fact that no specific chipset is listed – ‘octa-core’ is a pretty vague entry for that CPU field.
Assuming there will be an eight-core processor inside the next One, who will be making it? One thing’s for sure: it won’t be Qualcomm, since the current market leader in mobile chipsets thinks octa-core is just a fad. So who will it be? The only company to put forth an octa-core chip so far has been Samsung, and we’re pretty sure HTC won’t be buying from them (it’s never happened before, and given the direct competition between the companies, the Koreans have no reasons to sell to HTC).
MediaTek is the only other chip maker who has already announced that it’s working on an octa-core mobile solution, but its chip is going to be based on ARM’s Cortex-A7 design, which isn’t the most high-performing. So it would be odd for HTC to choose a lower-performing architecture for the One refresh than what’s used in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 that’s in the original.
Aside from the supposed octa-core CPU, we’re also going to see 3 GB of RAM make an appearance for the first time in an HTC handset with this new device. Furthermore, this ‘One+’ comes with a feature called ‘Clear Audio’ which makes calls sound better (noise-cancelling mics?), and it should have support for even more bands than its predecessor, covering almost all possible networks in the world. Finally, the screen should sport Gorilla Glass 3, which is thinner and lighter than the 2nd-generation glass that’s seen in the currently selling One.
The new and improved One could be announced alongside the One Max phablet, but don’t hold your breath just yet. While a refreshed One would fit with past HTC actions, this supposed octa-core processor that’s said to be used is a great mystery at the moment. We’ll let you know if we find out more about the new One.
