Liam Neeson Un-Retires From Action Movies

Liam Neeson Un-Retires From Action Movies

In what may be the shortest retirement in recent history, Liam Neeson is returning to action movies.

The actor dropped the news Tuesday at the Writers Guild Theater in Los Angeles during the red-carpet premiere of his film Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House.

RELATED: Liam Neeson Announces Retirement From Action Films

“It’s not true, look at me! You’re talking in the past tense,” Neeson said when asked about his recent retirement. “I’m going to be doing action movies until they bury me in the ground. I’m unretired.”

The actor announced his retirement just a few weeks earlier while attending the Toronto International Film Festival, saying it felt like the proper time to leave action behind. “They’re still throwing serious money at me to do that stuff,” Neeson said. “I’m like, ‘Guys, I’m sixty-fucking-five.’ Audiences are eventually going to go, ‘Come on.’”

Even before his retirement/unretirement from action films, Neeson has two unreleased action movies coming down the pike: Hard Powder, in which he plays a snowplow driver desperate for revenge following the death of his son, and The Commuter, in which he’s a man caught up in a criminal conspiracy during his commute home. Both films are slated for release in 2018.

Mark Hamill Originally Thought Luke Starkiller Was Han Solo’s Sidekick

by Liam Nolan
Mark Hamill Originally Thought Luke Starkiller Was Han Solo’s Sidekick

Mark Hamill’s role as Luke Skywalker in George Lucas’s 1977 film Star Wars catapulted the young actor and his co-stars to stardom. However, thanks to not having the full script and a confusing screen test with Harrison Ford, Hamill wasn’t aware he was reading for the film’s lead; instead, the iconic actor believed he’d be playing Han Solo’s sidekick.

RELATED: Paramount is Not Happy About JJ Abrams’ Return to Star Wars

Asked in a recent interview with official Star Wars website about whether the influence of classic movies and comic books drew Hamill to Star Wars, the actor responded that he actually wasn’t certain at first whether or not the movie was serious, and talked about his confusion regarding the role.

“I got that part without having read the entire script,” Hamill said. “I got a scene. First of all, there was a cattle call, where everybody in town that’s the right age goes in and they look at your size, your height, your looks, your this, your that. And you talk back and forth. They interview you, you don’t really hear them talk about the movie. And then you get the scene, you do the scene, and I’m trying to figure out, ‘Wait a second. Is this straightforward? Is it kind of a parody or an ironic sendup?’ I tested with Harrison [Ford] and I couldn’t [figure it out]. George [Lucas] just said, ‘Well, look, let’s just do it and we’ll talk about it later.’ Which is classic George, because you learn later that he says, ‘Let’s just do it,’ and then he never talks about it later.”

RELATED: What If… An Old Star Wars Comic Really Does Spoil The Last Jedi?

It wasn’t until he read the script at home that he discovered he would actually be playing the film’s lead character, not Ford.

“But when I finally got the part and they said they were sending the script over, I was living by myself in a one-bedroom on the beach in Malibu,” Hamill recalled. “It was before I was married. And I get the script and I sit down, and I’ll never forget the chair I was sitting in, facing the ocean. I open the title page and it says, ‘The Adventures of Luke Starkiller, as Taken from the Journal of the Whills, Saga Number One: The Star Wars.’ And I thought, ‘Wait a second…’ Because when I tested, I figured Harrison’s a leading man. So I thought, ‘I’m playing his sidekick, right?’ Reading it, I’m going, ‘Wait a second. Wasn’t I reading for Luke Starkiller? This can’t be right.’ Anyway, I started reading it and you can imagine. I mean, ‘A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.’ Then you read the crawl and you’re right in the action. It’s just such an economical example of storytelling.”

Prior to Star Wars, Ford had already worked with Lucas on 1973’s American Graffiti as well as Francis Ford Coppola’s 1974 film The Conversation. Comparatively, Hamill had mostly worked on TV shows and didn’t have much big-screen experience.

The title for the script that Hamill provides in the interview corresponds to the film’s fourth draft. Eventually, Lucas would change the name of his main character, Luke Starkiller, to Luke Skywalker.

Hamill will next appear as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Arriving Dec. 15, that film also stars Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

‘Thrones’ Kit Harington & Rose Leslie Are Engaged! Check Your Swords!

by Ray Flook
cyrus.mortazavi

#KitHarringtonWife2018

Let me be the first to confess that I went into this post trying to line up a bunch of “You know nothing, Jon Snow,” “Red Wedding” and dragon jokes; but in the interest of love and marriage and all of that pleasant stuff, I’m going to avoid the snark and play this straight so I don’t step all over their good news.

With the hope that life doesn’t imitate art too much, Game of Thrones onscreen pairing Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and Rose Leslie (Ygritte) have formally announced that they are engaged and intending to marry. The couple’s families made the formal announcement in the”Forthcoming Marriages” section of the Times of London newspaper:

game thrones harington leslie engaged

“MR. K.C. HARINGTON AND MISS R.E. LESLIE. The engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughters of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire.”

Harington and Leslie confirmed their romance to the public by appearing together and sharing a quick kiss on the red carpet at Britain’s 2016 Olivier Awards. Harington said his best ever memory of the show were the three weeks during the second season when they filmed in Iceland; and had this to say about Leslie and their relationship in an interview with L’Uomo Vogue last year:

game thrones harington leslie engaged

“Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love. If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love.”

Harrington and Leslie appeared together on Game of Thrones for three season, with Leslie exiting the series after Season 4 while Harington has appeared in all seven seasons. Leslie is currently starring in the CBS All Access series The Good Fight, which was renewed for a 13-episode second season. Harington will next be seen in the BBC’s drama Gunpowder, a three-part series based around the Gunpowder Plot in London in 1605, before returning as Jon Snow to film the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.

‘Spielberg’: HBO Releases First Trailer for Steven Spielberg Doc

by Ray Flook

steven spielberg doc trailer hbo

For nearly 50 years, Steven Spielberg has changed the way we experience movies. Through films as diverse as Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Schindler’s List and Bridge of Spies, Spielberg has mostly let his craft to the talking for him…until now. The director finds himself in front of the camera as the focus of Spielberg, HBO‘s feature-length documentary that means to show fans more of the personal side to the man behind some of their favorite films.

Directed by award-winning documentarian Susan Lacy (American Masters) and produced by Lacy, Emma Pildes and Jessica Levin, Spielberg is set to premiere on October 7th, exclusively through HBO and its affiliates (HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand).

Looking to draw back the curtain on a life and career that’s impacted so many for so long, Lacy recorded nearly 30 hours of exclusive interviews with Spielberg on a wide range of topics. The director is given the opportunity to open up about his childhood influences; discuss the difficulties he had transitioning from his success in television into film; examine what it was like to be known as “Mr. Blockbuster” and how that influenced him to take on more socially conscious work; and look back at the ways working in Hollywood shaped him personally.

The documentary also includes clips and behind-the-scenes footage from many of Spielberg’s films, including: Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, and Saving Private Ryan.

Lacy didn’t solely rely on Spielberg for her documentary, however. The documentarian also included insights and perspectives from Spielberg’s friends, colleagues and family members. Ranging from actors and directors to producers and industry insiders, the lineup included: J.J. Abrams, Christian Bale, Drew Barrymore, Cate Blanchett, Francis Ford Coppola, Daniel Craig, Daniel Day-Lewis, Brian de Palma, Laura Dern, Leonardo DiCaprio, Richard Dreyfuss, Ralph Fiennes, Harrison Ford, David Geffen, Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, Holly Hunter, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Ben Kingsley, Kathleen Kennedy, George Lucas, Liam Neeson, Martin Scorsese, Oprah Winfrey and Robert Zemeckis.

LeBron James Goes In On Trump “We As American People Need To Come Together Even Stronger”

by Jeremy Konrad

LeBron James posted his thoughts on what Donald Trump had to say about fellow NBA star Stephen Curry‘s comments about his team the Golden State Warriors visiting the White House after winning the NBA title this past summer. The Warriors will not be visiting.

Now, he is taking it to another level. In a post on The Uninterrupted, James by video message had the following to add:

“We all know what happened at Charlottesville and the divide that caused and now it’s even hitting more home for me now because he’s now using sports as the platform to try and divide us,” LeBron James said.

“We all know how much sports brings us together, how much passion it has, how much we love and care and friendships and everything it creates. And for him to try and use this platform, even more, it’s not something I can stand for, it’s not something I can be quiet about.”

“We, as American people, need to actually just come together even more stronger man,” James said. “This is a very critical time and me, in the position I am, I had to voice this to ya’ll.”

LeBron James Goes In On Trump "We As American People Need To Come Together Even Stronger”

Many during the day today have been applauding LeBron James and his contemporaries for speaking their minds about the situation. The Warriors also released a statement as a team about their decision to stay away, even though Trump “revoked” his invite.

While we intended to meet as a team at the first opportunity we had this morning to collaboratively discuss a potential visit to the White House, we accept that President Trump has made it clear that we are not invited. We believe there is nothing more American than our citizens having the right to express themselves freely on matters important to them. We’re disappointed that we did not have an opportunity during this process to share our views or have open dialogue on issues impacting our communities that we felt would be important to raise.
In lieu of a visit to the White House, we have decided that we’ll constructively use our trip to the nation’s capital in February to celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion — the values that we embrace as an organization.

All of this is going to come to a head tomorrow around 9:30 AM est when the first NFL game kicks off for the day over in London when the anthem is played. Expect many kneeling players and plenty of sideline shots throughout the days games. It should be quite an interesting day in sports, finishing out a weekend where many athletes felt attacked by their own countries leader.

Maybe Trump is just jealous about this:

Star Trek: Discovery’s Uniforms, Decoded

by Kevin Melrose
Star Trek: Discovery’s Uniforms, Decoded

Star Trek has a long tradition of color-coded uniforms that signify in which divisions Starfleet personnel serve. Perhaps most memorably, on The Original Series command division was gold, science and medical were blue, and operations, engineering and security were red. Naturally, that approach continues on CBS’s franchise revival Star Trek: Discovery, with some notable alterations.

RELATED: Every Star Trek TV Pilot, Ranked

Set a decade before Kirk, Spock & Co. set off on their five-year mission, the new show eschews the bright colors of The Original Series, and opts instead for uniforms more akin to those of Enterprise, the 2001-2005 drama that took place about a century earlier, during the early days of interstellar travel. The color piping on the blue fitted jumpsuits corresponded with each of the divisions of the beloved 1960s television series, but designated ranks with silver pips displayed on the right chest, rather than on the sleeves.

star trek enterprise

Enterprise

“We looked at Enterprise,” executive producer Akiva Goldsman recently explained, “we looked at The Original Series, at that point in canon, and we tried to pull across the color palette.”

However, Discovery trades in the Skittles rainbow for something a little more subdued (albeit a lot more metallic), with gold, silver and bronze, a little closer to the divisional designations used in the unaired 1965 pilot “The Cage.”

“We are looking at doing the red, blue and gold shirts,” said costume designer Gersha Phillips. “We’ve come up with a system where we’re doing a foiled compression panel and delta panels that we’re putting in on the jackets that tell that same story of the departments.”

Command

Star Trek: Discovery command uniform

As with The Original Series and its prequel Enterprise, the Starfleet uniforms of Discovery use gold to designate the command division, which traditionally encompasses officers and crewmen in command (of course) and control functions. That includes captains, executive officers, helmsmen and navigators.

RELATED: Star Trek: Discovery Will Push Boundaries, Drop F-Bombs, When Necessary

On Star Trek: Discovery, First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs) and Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) notably wear gold accents.

Science

star trek: discovery science division

Instead of the blue of The Original Series, silver is used on Discovery to specify the sciences division, which covers Starfleet officers and crewmen in scientific and medical research and control functions. Those can include a wide range of departments and duties, from sensors and research to surgery and medics.

On Discovery, science officers Saru (Doug Jones) and Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), and medical officer Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz) notably wear silver accents.

Operations

star trek: discovery operations

The largest division of most any Starfleet crew, operations encompasses such functions as engineering, security, communications and tactical. On The Original Series operations personnel wore red, which gave rise to the term “redshirt,” meaning a stock character who dies soon after being introduced. However, on Discovery, operations officers and crew are designated by bronze accents on their blue uniforms.

RELATED: Star Trek: TNG’s “Sarek” Is Required Viewing Before Discovery

On the new series, operations personnel include security officer Lt. Ash Tyler (Shazad Latif) and Cadet Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman).

Ranks and Division Badges

star trek: discovery badge

The color coding of the Starfleet uniforms on Star Trek: Discovery continues with the metallic badges, which correspond to the gold, silver and bronze of each of the divisions. What’s more, those badges display the division insignia as seen on The Original Series: the stylized star for command, a “ringed planet” for sciences and a spiral for operations.

But there’s a twist, with ranks on Discovery indicated with pips, akin to those of Star Trek: The Next Generation, only here displayed on the badges themselves: four pips for a captain, three for a commander, and so on.

In the United States, Star Trek: Discovery debuts Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, before moving to the CBS All Access streaming service for subsequent episodes. In Canada, the series debuts on CTV and Space at 8:30 pm ET, with its second episode set to air immediately after on Space — subsequent episodes will air Sundays through Nov. 5. Internationally, the series will stream on Netflix.

Rumored Gambit Movie Plot Details Include Classic X-Men Foe

by Renaldo Matadeen
Rumored Gambit Movie Plot Details Include Classic X-Men Foe

Fox’s Gambit film has been stuck in such developmental hell that star Channing Tatum had to come out and indicate to fans the project is still happening and that it’s restarting from scratch. Now, with the studio yet to firm up a director, full cast, or a production start date, some rumored plot details have emerged over at SplashReport.

RELATED: Gambit Film Has ‘Started Over,’ Tatum Reveals

The details hint that the movie will be the Ocean’s 11 of comic book movies, with Gambit embroiled in heists over two periods of time. The movie will reportedly explore his comic book origins in the Guild of Thieves and the war between his LeBeau clan and the Boudreaux family, which his love interest Bella Donna belongs to. It will then jump forward to Gambit being hired by none other than Mister Sinister aka Nathaniel Essex to steal a mysterious trunk that was stolen by the Boudreaux clan, which will of course bring back demons of his past.

Sinister’s presence was felt in the after-credits of X-Men: Apocalyse when Essex Corp. was seen gathering Wolverine’s blood samples. Also, noteworthy is that for this second heist, Gambit will be recruiting Dani Moonstar, who is already due to appear in the New Mutants movie, and Jaime Madrox aka Multiple Man (who we last saw in X-Men: The Last Stand).

RELATED: Gambit: Everything We Know About the X-Men Spinoff Film (So Far)

These rumors come in the wake of the last director attached, Doug Liman, leaving after citing script issues. With the likes of Deadpool 2, New Mutants and now an X-Force movie all underway, it comes as no surprise that Fox will want to proceed with this fan favorite character to expand its superhero universe as quickly as possible.

Crisis On Earth-X Is The Arrowverse Punching Nazis Versions Of Themselves

by Dan Wickline
cyrus.mortazavi

This sounds fun

Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg said they conceived of this years crossover to be like the big Justice League / Justice Society ones of the past. But there is a lot more going on here. Earth-X in the comics is the home of the Freedom Fighters… which isn’t a random choice since there will be a new animated series on the CW Seed called Freedom Fighters: The Ray and Guggenheim says that there will two Ray’s involved in that including the Earth-1 version. Earth-X is the world if the Nazi’s had won World War II. So the crossover are the heroes of the Arrowverse punching Nazis.

Now let’s take a look at the heads around the outside looking at the fight. We have all of Team Flash with The Flash, Vibe and Killer Frost. From the Legends we have Firestorm, Heat Wave, Atom, White Canary, Zari (nice necklace) and Vixen. We have Supergirl and then we have from Team Arrow Wild Dog, Green Arrow, Black Canary and Mr. Terrific. Oh… and The Ray is there. Not included in the image: Citizen Steel, Elongated Man and Spartan.

Since we don’t know how soon into the series will get Elongated Man, that’s not a big deal. But no Steel is interesting… and no Spartan makes you wonder if Diggle makes it off Lian Yu in one piece.

When you pull into the center piece more, besides the image of Barry and Iris at the alter. You see a couple other interesting faces that might be spoiler-ish. On the bad-guy side we see Nazi (not sure what they’ll call them in the show) versions of Supergirl, Green Arrow, Reverse Flash and… Dark Archer? In the trailer for The Ray, we got to see these characters and the look a little different so it’s hard to say if that’s going to be Barry Allen or Eobard Thawne as their Flash… and might we get John Barrowman back for the crossover at least? It would be cool. Oh… and look on the bottom left corner… isn’t that one Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold? Hes on the good guy side.

If this piece by Phil Jimenez is accurate and they told him who to draw… then we’ll meet live-action The Ray (which means we should hear some casting news soon), and we might get to meet the other Freedom Fighters: Phantom Lady Black Condor and Red Tornado. We know Curtis survives Lian Yu and it looks like Wild Dog might be getting a mask upgrade.

Now that the episodes are filming, we should start getting more close. And the marriage of Barry and Iris is the “love is in the air” thing Guggenheim teased a while back. And they’re keeping the tradition in comics where weddings always attract bad guys.

Crisis on Earth-X will air in 4 parts, the Supergirl and Arrow part will air back-to-back Monday November 27th and then Flash and Legends will air back-to-back on Tuesday November 28th.

Justice League: Zack Snyder Won’t Return Because It’d Be ‘Unfair’

by Nicole Sobon
Justice League: Zack Snyder Won’t Return Because It’d Be ‘Unfair’

Director Zack Snyder has often been cited with crafting the overall tone for the DC Extended Universe, which officially kicked off with his 2013 film Man of Steel. Since then, he has gone on to direct Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and this year’s Justice League. Unfortunately, due to a family tragedy earlier this year, Snyder was forced to step down from the latter film, with The Avengers director Joss Whedon boarding the project to help with finish the feature, including its extensive reshoots. Now, having had time to heal and cope, Snyder has revealed he has no plans to return to work on the film.

In a new interview with Wired for his short film Snow Steam Iron, the director briefly addressed his future with the DCEU and Justice League. While he will remain on board as a producer for many of the forthcoming DC films, Snyder has confirmed he’s no longer involved with Justice League, explaining that it would be “unfair in a lot of ways” if he got involved again.

RELATED: Justice League: Wonder Woman ‘Understands the Enemy Better Than Anyone’

“I’m at a place where I feel excited about it and I’m happy for my guys and I love these people that are working on it, and they’re my family and I think they’re doing an amazing job,” he shared. “But I’ve kind of just let them do their thing.”

Snyder’s lack of involvement shouldn’t come as a surprise. Not only has Whedon been said to have earned a writer’s credit on the feature since stepping in, but the project has apparently since undergone an overhaul in both its tone and ending.

RELATED: Artist Recreates DCEU Posters with Animated Universe Counterparts

For now, Snyder is busying himself with The Last Photograph, a project he began work on shortly after 300 hit theaters, as well as a script for his adaptation of Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead.

Opening November 17, Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Raymond Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Amber Heard as Mera and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.

Linda Hamilton Is Returning For Terminator 6

by Kaitlyn Booth

It turns out she’ll be back too. It was announced today on The Hollywood Reporter that Linda Hamilton is making her return to the Terminator franchise. After twenty-five years and skipping three installments, Hamilton will join director James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the team is brought together yet again.

“As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return.” He adds, “There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys, but there isn’t an example of that for women.”

Linda Hamilton

We don’t know that much about this movie so far and it seems like pre-production is really just starting to get underway. This movie is being directed by Deadpool director Tim Miller since Cameron is too busy shooting approximately 1284 Avatar sequels. The old cast aren’t the only one’s that Cameron is bringing in though.

“We’re starting a search for an 18-something woman to be the new centerpiece of the new story,” Cameron said. “We still fold time. We will have characters from the future and the present. There will be mostly new characters but we’ll have Arnold and Linda Hamilton’s characters to anchor it.”

In a movie about time travel it really makes sense that they’ll just roll with that and have a old and new versions of characters running around. It’s sort of like what X-Men did in Days of Future Past only it sounds like this is going to have those characters interact. The Hollywood Reporter is also saying that they’ll be treating this installment like a direct sequel to Judgement Day which makes sense. Might as well use the last movie everyone liked as your stepping stone.

Star Wars: Did Mark Hamill Reveal When to Expect New Last Jedi Trailer?

by Andrew Paul
Star Wars: Did Mark Hamill Reveal When to Expect New Last Jedi Trailer?

Audiences likely don’t need much convincing to watch Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but that doesn’t mean the franchise faithful aren’t eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next trailer.

RELATED: New Star Wars Comic Will Explore Key Planet in The Last Jedi

Responding to a fan this morning on Twitter, actor Mark Hamill may have let slip when the new trailer for The Last Jedi will debut. He quickly deleted the tweet, but luckily for fans, the Internet never forgets:

“Watch Monday Night Football on Monday October 9th- for no reason in particular,” Hamill wrote in response to a fan who said “today is a great day” to drop some new footage. While there could be any number of reasons why he deleted the reply, given that we’re just 88 days away from the premiere of The Last Jedi, it’s pretty certain Lucasfilm is prepping the next trailer. So far, fans have gotten one official teaser trailer and a quick behind-the-scenes video, but it seems as if that could change in a matter of weeks.

Stranger Things Season 2 Will Put Eleven On An Emotional Rollercoaster

by Dan Wickline

If you’re waiting around for Stranger Things Season 2 and are hoping for some tidbits to tide you over, Matt and Ross Duffer spoke with TVLine’s Michael Ausiello last night at the Emmy Awards red carpet event. The creators and executive producers for the series teased a bit about the upcoming sophomore season for the Netflix hit series.

Stranger Things

Starting off, they talk about Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and how her journey this season will be very different — besides the fact that she will have hair and be able to complete sentences. It’s going to be more of an emotional rollercoaster in the second season, as she will basically be going through adolescence while having powers.

They did confirm that there will be justice for Barb in the new season, but actress Shannon Purser will not be returning. Barb is dead; she’s not coming back and there won’t be flashbacks or ghost appearances. Barb will be talked about, but she’ll get no screen time. The Byers got Will (Noah Schnapp) back, but the Hollands didn’t get their daughter back, and we’ll get to see the repercussions from that with them and Nancy (Natalia Dyer).

As for as how long the series will go, don’t expect it to be around forever. They have a specific place in mind where they are going to end it, and they don’t feel that the story justifies that long of a run. Maybe four or five seasons at the most is the impression the Duffers give — definitely not six.

Don’t expect a big cliffhanger ending to the second season, either.

Stranger Things Season 2 will debut October 27 on Netflix.

Gal Gadot: Wonder Woman Is All Grown Up In ‘Justice League’

by Kaitlyn Booth
cyrus.mortazavi

I know this is a Wonder Woman piece, but holy codpiece is Batman hung in this picture!

While Wonder Woman became one of the biggest superheroes over the summer, when it comes to who she is in Justice League, we could be looking at a very different character. We don’t know what Diana was doing all of those years between World War I and the present day — only that no one was aware of her existence. A person can change a lot in all of that time, and Gal Gadot talked to US Magazine about how this Diana is different from the one we saw in her solo movie a few months ago:

“She’s grown up — it’s been a century, after all! She’ll bring her specific qualities to a group dynamic, and she understands the enemy better than anyone else.”

It’s interesting that Gadot says that Diana understands this enemy better than anyone else. There is a lot of evidence that the Amazons fought Steppenwolf at some point in history, so maybe it was one of the many stories Diana heard as a child.

The dynamic between Bruce and Diana looks like it’s going to be interesting, and Gadot elaborates a bit on what we can expect from it:

“Since they’ve fought together, they know each other’s strengths. They also understand the hope Superman stood for, that was lost [when he died], so they feel that more than the others.”

The fun of a team-up movie is seeing how these characters bounce off of each other, so it’s going to be fun to see how Diana does against the varying personalities of her teammates.

Summary: Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.

Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder, stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, and Henry Cavill. It will be released on November 17th.

Star Wars: Episode IX Has Been Delayed To December 2019

by Kaitlyn Booth
cyrus.mortazavi

I liked WW and am looking forward to WW2, but the idea that Star Wars would be worried about premiering two weeks after its release is laughable

Star Wars: Episode IX has been pushed back, now that it has a new director. According to Variety, the movie has moved from May 24th, 2019 to December 20th, 2019 — a delay that isn’t that surprising, considering the sudden directors change. This will give J.J. Abrams and writer Chris Terrio more time to work on the script.

The move to December 2019 means that the movie is now opening up against the film adaptation of the musical Wicked and also a mere two weeks after Wonder Woman 2 comes out. Star Wars has, thus far, done very well in the December months, so they delay isn’t surprising at all. What is surprising is the fact that they haven’t delayed the currently still-filming Han Solo movie, despite the fact that it lost its directors several months into filming. Perhaps Abrams would only take this project on if he got the time he needed to work on the script. Lucasfilm and Disney clearly like him, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they agreed to those terms.

This story is developing, so there could be more information to come.

Nintendo To Bring Back The NES Classic Edition Next Summer

by Gavin Sheehan

Well, that’s a spark of awesome news. To help celebrate the release of the Super NES Classic Edition, Nintendo has made two significant announcements regarding their retro systems. The first being that the SNES version will have a “higher volume of units” compared to the last, meaning that you might actually have the chance to buy one and not get scalped on eBay in the process. The second announcement came out early this morning as Nintendo confirmed it would be releasing more units of the first version, the NES Classic Edition.

The catch to this news is that the NES version won’t be coming out until next summer, presumably because Nintendo is focused on getting more Switch units out, which uses many of the same parts as the SNES and NES consoles. No other information was released by the company about an official release date or other vital info, so at best guess, we have to assume it’s the same unit as before with no added games or software. Which will probably suit people just fine seeing as how there were many auctions that sold the original system for well over $300 for what it had, so paying the $60 for a re-release will probably come off as a mental discount. What are your thoughts on the NES Classic Edition returning next year?

John Wick: Chapter Three Release Date Announced

by Adam Fitch
John Wick: Chapter Three Release Date Announced

John Wick: Chapter Three is officially happening with a release date of May 17, 2019 having been set by Lionsgate. It’s the first summer release for the franchise, which has been a surprise workhorse at the box office so far, reaffirming Reeves’ status as an action star.

RELATED: Lionsgate Eyes John Wick Universe Expansion With Ballerina Film

The release date was revealed by Hollywood Reporter, though no plot details have been divulged just yet. Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as the titular character, a hitman, expert marksman and deadly fighter. John Wick: Chapter Two saw the main character on the run with a ridiculous bounty and an army of hitmen on his heels.

“We’re currently in the middle of writing it right now,” Chad Stahelski revealed in May. “It’s more of a how fast can we get our sh** together. But I would assume that if not by the end of this year, the beginning of next year.” It seems that Stahelski’s plan worked out, as the movie will film in 2018 to achieve it’s release date.

RELATED: Dynamite Announces John Wick Prequel Comic Creative Team

Lionsgate is rapidly expanding the John Wick universe. The company recently won a bidding war for a female-centric action script titled Ballerina, which will act as a spin-off from the main series. Story details are sparse, but it’s said to center around a young woman who’s trained to be an assassin who eventually tracks down the assassin group that murdered her family. Not only that, but Stahelski is developing a prequel television series, too.

“We basically almost have a prequel written, but we’d save that for other aspects of the property,” Stahelski said in an interview earlier this year. “Lionsgate is very interested in doing a John Wick TV show, and that seems very appealing to us. I think in TV you could really expand on what that is, and greater than we could in just a two-hour film. We’d like to wrap-up the story we’re telling now and maybe save all our prequel ideas and impossible task ideas for that medium.”

John Wick: Chapter Three sees Keanu Reeves reprise his role in the R-rated action franchise that is scheduled to release on May 17, 2019. The first movie in the franchise grossed $88 million worldwide in 2014, with the sequel earning $171 million after its 2017 release.  The franchise is also receiving a prequel comic tie-in series from Dynamite Entertainment, with Grek Pak as writer and Giovanni Valletta as artist.

Game of Thrones Will Film Multiple Endings to Maintain Secrecy

by Jon Arvedon
Game of Thrones Will Film Multiple Endings to Maintain Secrecy

Secrecy wasn’t exactly HBO’s strong suit this summer, as the cable network grappled with Game of Thrones leaks stemming from both a breach by hackers and lax security by international partners. But with the eighth and final season expected to arrive in 2019, HBO is taking extra precautions to ensure details about the ending of the hit fantasy drama aren’t released prematurely.

RELATED: Game of Thrones VFX Video Shows How Night King’s Army Came to Life

“I know in Game of Thrones, the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens,” President of Programming Casey Bloys told The Morning Call. “You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”

That tactic is hardly unheard of in television. AMC’s flagship series The Walking Dead employed similar measures to keep the reveal of its Season 6 cliffhanger a secret by filming Negan killing multiple characters.

RELATED: Game of Thrones: Isaac Hempstead Wright Says Bran Isn’t the Night King

Last month, HBO spokesperson Jeff Cusson said the network’s data leak wasn’t entirely unexpected following the system breach, and that its “forensic review is ongoing.” This wasn’t the first significant Game of Thrones leak, either. The first four episodes of Season 5 were released online before the season premiere, leading HBO to stop providing advance copies for review by journalists. An HBO subsidiary also released a Season 6 episode a day early.

Game of Thrones’ final season doesn’t yet have a release date, but the penultimate season is now available in full on HBO Go and HBO Now. Based on George R.R. Martin’s bestselling fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, the hit drama stars Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen and Kit Harington as Jon Snow.

The Flash’s Season 4 Premiere Will ‘Restart’ the Series

by Geoff Miller
The Flash’s Season 4 Premiere Will ‘Restart’ the Series

Eschewing its traditionally bright nature, The Flash Season 3 took a dark turn, which permeated all of the season’s ongoing arcs. The finale culminated with Barry going head-to-head with a evil version of himself, and the cliffhanger ending even saw the Scarlet Speedster ostensibly sacrifice himself to save Central City.

The heavier aspects of the show’s new direction didn’t sit right with some fans, and it looks like the creatives behind the series have listened. In a behind-the-scenes featurette, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg promised a much more optimistic version of The Flash when The CW series returns this fall.

RELATED: The Flash: Barry Allen Returns in New Promo

“Last season got really dark, and on purpose. We wanted to do that,”Kreisberg explained in a special sneak peek video for Season 4. “We’re not gonna out-dark ourselves. We really wanted to… pivot and sort of lean in to like fun and light and brightness. So the title of the [Season 4] premiere is actually ‘The Flash Reborn,’ and for us it’s sort of like a little bit of a restart and diving into sort of more comedy and more fun, and more brightness and more excitement.”

Starring Grant Gustin as the Scarlet Speedster, The Flash returns Tuesday, October 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Carlos Valdes, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Keiynan Lonsdale and more.

Star Wars: JJ Abrams’ Screenplay Will Be Episode IX’s Fourth Script

by Rob Cave
Star Wars: JJ Abrams’ Screenplay Will Be Episode IX’s Fourth Script

Following the announcement that writer-director J.J. Abrams and co-writer Chris Terrio will pen a new script for Star Wars: Episode IX, the much-anticipated final installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy looks to be on its fourth script. While films generally undergo several rewrites, Episode IX‘s case may be somewhat unique in that it appears to have undergone several major revisions.

According to Screen Rant, the first version of an Episode IX script was penned by then-director Colin Trevorrow, along with his writing partner Derek Connolly. While we don’t know much about what this draft contained, largely due to Lucasfilm’s secretive approach to both script development and filmmaking, we do know that its direction was massively affected by the tragic death of Carrie Fisher in December 2016.

RELATED: Star Wars: Episode IX Moves to December 2019

Per Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, Leia was originally intended to be at the forefront of Episode IX, which meant script changes were called for following her passing. After discussions on how best to proceed, Kennedy announced that Fisher’s character General Leia Organa would not appear in Episode IX following Fisher’s death. Trevorrow and Connolly subsequently produced a new script without Leia.

It appears as though this version still had some issues, as British screenwriter Jack Thorne was hired to rework the script. Again, the extent to which this version differed from the one that came before it is unknown. Following Trevorrow’s departure, neither Thorne nor Trevorrow are attached to the Episode IX script. As such, it seems Abrams and Terrio’s script will likely be largely its own original entity.

Hitting theaters on December 15, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will also star Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran. Scheduled to hit theaters on December 20, 2019, Star Wars: Episode IX will likely star Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac.

Liam Neeson Announces Retirement From Action Films

I'll miss your particular set of skills

Liam Neeson Announces Retirement From Action Films

Following a decade of kicking ass in roughly a dozen action films, Liam Neeson insists he’s retiring his particular set of roughhousing skills.

While attending the Toronto International Film Festival, the 65-year-old actor announced that although Hollywood still has plenty of interest in more projects, it felt like the proper time to leave action behind. “They’re still throwing serious money at me to do that stuff,” Neeson said. “I’m like, ‘Guys, I’m sixty-fucking-five.’ Audiences are eventually going to go, ‘Come on.'”

RELATED: Liam Neeson Returns to the Revenge-Thriller in Hard Powder

The actor, whose career underwent a resurgence when Taken revealed his flair for the genre, looks to be staying true to his 2015 prediction, that he had, “Maybe two more years [of action films]. If God spares me and I’m healthy.”

Riding the momentum of the Taken franchise, Neeson starred in several other high-octane thrillers, including The A-Team, The GreyNon-Stop and Run All Night.

Before he officially rides off into the genre sunset, however, the actor does have two unreleased action movies: Hard Powder, in which he plays a snowplow driver desperate for revenge following the death of his son, and The Commuter, in which he’s a man caught up in a criminal conspiracy during his commute home. Both films are slated for release in 2018.

Nintendo’s New SNES Classic Comes with the Long-Awaited Starfox 2

by Rob Cave
Nintendo’s New SNES Classic Comes with the Long-Awaited Starfox 2

Everything old is new again — at least, that certainly seems to be the case with Nintendo’s classic consoles. Following up on from the phenomenal success of its hand-sized Nintendo Entertainment System: Classic Edition, the Japanese gaming company has recently announced that it is upping production on the equally diminutive Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Classic Edition, which is due to hit the U.S. on September 29.

Best of all, the SNES Classic boasts a never-before released title among its 21 pre-loaded games: Starfox 2.

A sequel to the legendary 1993 rail shooter Star Fox, Star Fox 2 was developed for the original Super Nintendo Entertainment System, but its much-anticipated release was cancelled in 1995 due in part to the imminent arrival of the newer Nintendo 64 console and to avoid unfavourable comparisons with games on the more powerful original PlayStation.

The Classic Edition SNES also features smash-hit games Super Mario Kart and Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Super Metroid. It comes with two wired controllers and can be plugged directly into modern TVs via a provided HDMI cable.

With a suggested retail price of $79.99 US, the SNES offers the perfect holiday gift for nostalgic parents and budget-conscious gamers alike.

GI Joe Spin-off Series Scarlett’s Strike Force Launching from IDW

by Rob Cave

What a shitty title

GI Joe Spin-off Series Scarlett’s Strike Force Launching from IDW

IDW Publishing’s G.I. Joe comic book is about to get a new spin-off in the form of Scarlett’s Strike Force. The new title, to be penned by regular G.I. Joe writer Aubrey Sitterson and drawn by Nelson Daniel, was recently announced at Hascon, the G.I. Joe toymaker’s celebration of all things Hasbro.

Speaking to Paste Magazine, Sitterson explained that the new title would follow up on the upcoming “First Strike” event that will see both the emergence of a new, reinvigorated Cobra Commander and a crossover between Sitterson’s G.I. Joe team and characters from IDW’s M.A.S.K. series.

RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: IDW Reveals First Strike Tie-Ins, New Ongoing Hasbro Series

“In the previous Joe series — by me, Giannis Milonogiannis and Lovern Kindzierski — Scarlett was the leader of a team that included not only Joes, but the Decepticon Skywarp, and in the new series, they’ll be joined by Matt Trakker of M.A.S.K. as well as another face that might be familiar to long-time fans,” Sitterson said. “So, coming out of the ‘First Strike’ event, we thought it made sense for the name of the book to speak to the nature of the team. Don’t worry though — the reception to our unique take on G.I. Joe has been amazing, so there are no plans to stop giving you the bombastic, sci-fi-action-packed character drama that you deserve.”

Sitterson went on to promise a host of new characters, including The Intruder from Action Man, the brand-new Cobra Commander and “an army of new, serpentine Vipers.”

Written by Aubrey Sitterson and drawn by Nelson Daniel, Scarlett’s Strike Force is due to hit comic shops in December.

Iron Fist: Finn Jones Ready to Start Training For Season 2

When Marvel’s Iron Fist arrived in March to Netflix, one of the recurring criticisms was the fight choreography, a shortcoming that star Finn Jones admitted was due, in part, to lack of preparation time. However, it appears the series hopes to address that for its recently ordered second season.

RELATED: Defenders Star Finn Jones Still Hopes to Put on Iron Fist’s Mask

While speaking with Inverse about Danny Rand’s arc on The Defenders, Jones addressed his character’s action scenes in the miniseries, which were filmed with a different choreography team and camera operator, and after the actor had already been performing choreography for six or seven months with Iron Fist.

“The way it was constructed and the way that it was directed and put together was very different,” Jones said, “which I think also helped the show’s choreography.”

RELATED: Can The Defenders Make Us Forget Iron Fist?

Jones also revealed that he begins training for the second season of Iron Fist next week. “We’re at least four or five months away from shooting,” he added, “so this time around, I’m being given a lot more preparation leading up to Season 2, which I think is really gonna have a huge improvement on the quality of the fight scenes in Season 2 of Iron Fist.

No release date has been announced for the second season of Iron Fist.

Magdalene Visaggio And Fico Ossio Pit Transformers Vs. Visionaries At IDW In December

by Jude Terror

Back at San Diego Comic Con, we were teased with the news that Magdalene Visaggio will team with artist Fico Ossio to revive Visionaries at IDW. Now we know that revival will kick off with a bang in Transformers vs. Visionaries this December.

Visionaries is a defunct 1980s toy line that Hasbro is hoping to bring back as part of its plan to create a shared cinematic universe. It was a comic by Jim Salicrup, Gerry Conway, and Mark Bagley that ran for six issues, but was canceled due to the toy line’s lack of success.

It also got a single season of cartoon from Sunbow in 1987. Unlike other Hasbro/Sunbow collaborations such as G.I. Joe, Transformers, Jem, and Inhumanoids, however, Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light is the only Hasbro cartoon made by Sunbow without the help of Marvel Productions. Sunbow stable superstar writers like Buzz Dixon and Flint Dille wrote the episodes, along with Doug Booth, who did some Sunbow work as well as writing for the bastardized DIC version of G.I. Joe (never forget the third Sunbow season that was stolen from us!!!), He-Man, and The SmurfsVisionaries is about two teams of knights, one good team called the Spectral Knights, and one bad team, natch, called the Darkling Lords. The hook for the toys are holographic animal totems on their chests that grant them special powers. It’s fitting that Visaggio will write the revival of this property, since Kim & Kim would have made an excellent 80s Sunbow cartoon.

We didn’t get a lot of details about the series at San Diego Comic Con, but that’s changed thanks an EXCLUSIVE reveal of  the title, covers, and concept art over at the AV Club. Check out the art below. Transformers vs. Visionaries will hit stores in December.

David Hasselhoff Wants a Logan-Style Knight Rider Movie

by Justin Carter
cyrus.mortazavi

This is either the worst idea or best idea ever

David Hasselhoff Wants a Logan-Style Knight Rider Movie

David Hasselhoff has his own idea for a big-screen revival of Knight Rider that borrows a page from Fox’s R-rated Logan.

The actor, who starred in the 1980s action TV series, shared with CinemaBlend that he pitched director Robert Rodriguez a “darker” vision for his character.

RELATED: Justin Lin Helming Knight Rider Reboot

“I want to bring it back and make it dark!” Hasselhoff said. “Michael Knight comes back and he’s pissed. … I hope it happens, and if it does, it’ll be kind of like Logan. It will be dark.”

In the original series, which aired from 1982 to 1986, Hasselhoff played a police detective who’s rescued by a billionaire philanthropist after being nearly fatally shot, and then given a new face and identity. Paired with KITT, a modified Trans Am equipped with artificial intelligence, Michael Knight was the primary field agent for a public justice organization, the Foundation For Law and Government. Hasselhoff reprised the role in two television movies, 1991’s Knight Rider 2000 and 2008’s Knight Rider.

Although a digital revival of Knight Rider was announced last year, with Justin Lin behind the camera, there’s been no movement on a potential film for some time. Hasselhoff previously floated his idea for a Fast and the Furious-style franchise, but it’s unclear whether Rodriguez is actually interested in developing the property. The director did pose for a photo with Hasselhoff last year, though.

Arrow Season 6 Will Match A Villain To Each Member Of Team Arrow

by Dan Wickline

We know that a team of villains is being put together for Arrow Season 6, and that it will include Richard Dragon (Kirk Acevedo), Anatoly Knyazev (David Nykl), and the unrevealed character played by Michael Emerson (who I’m betting is Cayden James of Helix). There has also been talk that Black Siren, the meta-human Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) from Earth-2 may also be part of that team. But now we have to wonder: will the Vigilante will be part of them too?

Arrow

EW.com is reporting that the villain team is being set up as a direct counterpoint to Team Arrow. They refer to Anatoly being the opposite of Oliver and Black Siren being the match for Black Canary. They also talked with Stephen Amell about the Star City masked man that fans were sure early on was Adrian Chase:

“I know who he is. I’m not going to tell you who he is, but I will tell you Vigilante is a villain, if you want to call him that, for a member of the team as well.”

That throws up a lot of interesting thoughts. The first has to do with Anatoly being the match for Oliver. I don’t see that. Yes, they both spent time on Lian Yu, but Oliver is a highly trained warrior who has worked with Slade Wilson, Shado, Yao Fei, and Talia al Ghul. The Anatoly we’ve seen so far is a Russian mobster and rather intelligent, but I can’t see him being a one-on-one match for the Green Arrow — unless they went and turned him into the KGBeast as he is in the comics. I think Richard Dragon makes more sense as a match.

Now, the Vigilante is a match for someone. Skill-wise, he could be a good match for Wild Dog or Spartan, but he could also be an emotional villain — and then the theory that he’s Curtis’ ex-husband Paul become really interesting. And Amell doesn’t come out and say that he’s part of the bad guy team — but then, no one said they would be an actual team. It could be that each member of Team Arrow has someone to deal with on their own this season. I doubt they’ll go that direction, but it’s possible.

Flash Season 4: Barry And Iris Head For The Altar…And Couples Counseling

by Dan Wickline

Last season, there was the proposal at the end of the musical episode that then was undone when Iris (Candice Patton) found out that Barry (Grant Gustin) proposed in an attempt to change the future and save Iris from Savitar. They would work it out and be engaged again when Barry decides to sacrifice himself and step into the Speed Force to save Central City. Everything we’ve been hearing about the new season says Barry will be back early and folks have been figuring the Girls Night Out episode with guest Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) was for a bachelorette party.

Barry and Iris

Well, finally EW.com just asked executive producer Andrew Kreisberg if Barry and Iris will be getting married:

“They are finally going to get married this season and then it’s going to be: Can they stay married with everything that’s coming up against them?”

And now they’re saying that they’re already going to be going for couples counseling — but not for the obvious reason.

“Barry and Iris keep comically clashing inadvertently because she’s used to being in charge, and he’s used to being in charge, and so they wind up going to couples therapy to work through it. The two of them with the therapist is some of the funniest stuff we have ever done on this show, but it also leads to a deepening of their relationship.”

Barry will be gone six months before the new season picks up and in that time, Iris has become the new leader of Team Flash. So when Barry returns, they butt heads. But the idea to go to counseling comes from a surprise source: Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker). Patton says:

“Caitlin has been through so much herself in relationships, and if anyone can offer advice, it would be her. She’s there quite often to give Iris advice on her relationship with Barry and how to move forward. It’s actually more her idea that they go to counseling and get help.”

The Flash Season 4 debuts October 10th on the CW.
