Brad Bird is finally writing The Incredibles 2

Now that his new film Tomorrowland is finished (and due for release on May 22), Bird tells NPR that he’s finally working on a script for Incredibles 2. Noting that the main idea for the sequel is “percolating,” he explains, “I’m just starting to write it, so we’ll see what happens.”

Coming Distractions: The new Ant-Man trailer no longer looks like a case of diminishing returns

by Alex McCown
Corey

Looks good. I'm in.

When we debuted the first trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man, we were a little nervous about the whole endeavor. The Edgar Wright kerfuffle and subsequent re-shuffling of the very small deck of actors wasn’t promising, even if hiring Peyton Reed helped to allay some fears. The first look at the film was equally disappointing, despite some good-looking effects and the always welcome presence of star Paul Rudd. This new trailer, on the other hand, feels much more reassuring. It’s got a more freewheeling and fun comic-book movie vibe, which feels like the tone you should be going for when your movie is called Ant-Man. It’s got action, it’s got jokes, it’s got Evangeline Lilly punching Paul Rudd in the face, everything. And if there’s more stuff like the great bit with the train set at the end, then it would seem that Reed ...

Newswire: Like its protagonist, season one of The Last Man On Earth will not be alone

by Alex McCown
Corey

I like Will Forte, and have enjoyed this season so far.

From its one-man-show premise, Will Forte’s The Last Man On Earth has developed into a rich and interesting series, thanks to game performances from Kristen Schaal as Carol, January Jones’ Melissa, and Mel Rodriguez as literally the nicest guy on Earth, Todd. And much like Forte’s Phil eventually discovered he wasn’t alone, so too will season one of the comedy have company, as Variety reports that the network has picked up the show for a second season.

The renewal isn’t quite as shocking as discovering the rest of humanity has perished from a virus, since despite the usual ratings slide after the big premiere, it has averaged a 1.8 rating among the 18-49 demo with 4.4 million watching, numbers that jump to a 2.7 rating and 6.6 million if you include the Live+3 viewers. Also, Fox is probably more than eager ...

Newswire: Wale’s Seinfeld-inspired Album About Nothing debuts at No. 1

by Sam Barsanti
Corey

Interesting.

Rapper Wale is, arguably, the biggest Seinfeld fan in the world. He’s already released two Seinfeld-inspired mixtapes (2008’s The Mixtape About Nothing and 2010’s More About Nothing), and he managed to directly collaborate with Jerry Seinfeld for his latest album, fittingly titled The Album About Nothing, which hit stores last week. (You can read about how that collaboration came to be over at Yahoo). Now, apparently, the unexpected connection between hip-hop music and observational humor from the ’90s has really resonated with listeners, because Billboard is reporting that The Album About Nothing has debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.

Billboard says The Album About Nothing sold “100,000 equivalent album units” in its first week—whatever that means—with the soundtrack to Furious 7 coming in second place with 74,000. That’s probably because the Furious 7 soundtrack doesn’t have enough ...

Newswire: Baz Luhrmann’s The Get Down casts its four leads

by Matt Wayt
Corey

I think this is going to be good.

The Wrap reports that Tremaine Brown Jr., Justice Smith, Shameik Moore, and Skylan Brooks have been cast as the leads in the Netflix musical series The Get Down. The show is set in ’70s New York City, where “a rag-tag crew of South Bronx teenagers are nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them—except each other, armed only with verbal games, improvised dance steps, some magic markers, and spray cans.” Since the show is being developed by Baz Luhrmann, you can presumably look forward to a lot of groovy set pieces and alarming histrionics.

Brown Jr. will portray Boo-Boo, a “mechanically-minded kid who wants to get down,” while Smith will play Ezekiel, a “smart, resourceful teen brimming with untapped talent and unrequited love.” Moore will portray Shaolin Fantastic, a “child of the streets; thrill-seeking, unpredictable, and eccentric, but above all, enigmatic.” Lastly, Brooks will play Ra-Ra, a “loyal ...

32 Insane Stadium Foods

by John Farrier
Corey

Some of these look scary, but a few look awesome.

(Photo: Battle Creek Bombers)

In the highly competitive sport of stadium food, sports concession stands are constantly trying to outdo each other by producing wonderfully ridiculous food-like products. Ideally, stadium food is highly fattening, packed with sugar, and is simultaneously delicious and disgusting. This motive is why the Battle Creek Bombers, a college baseball team in Michigan, invented the Twinkie dog. It’s a hot dog set inside a split Twinkie, then covered with appropriate toppings, such as ketchup, whipped cream, and sprinkles.

This is 1 of 32 preposterous foods sold at sports stadiums across America. You can view the rest at 22 Words.

Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!

by Miss Cellania
Corey

Yup.

The next installment of the abomination that is Sharknado will hit TVs in July of 2015, and the title of the movie is Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! Which is exactly what film and TV critics thought when they heard The Asylum was going to produce another sequel. Tara Reid will once again star, with the Jedward twins and David Hasselhoff joining the cast for this go-round.

It will also feature a number of guest stars including Ann Coulter as the Vice President, Jerry Springer as a tourist and WWE’s Chris Jericho, who is set to play a roller coaster ride operator.

The latest film sees the sharks take a bite out of the East Coast when the sharknado hits Washington, D.C. and Orlando, Florida.

But the poster pretty much says it all. Look for the movie on SyFy. -via Geeks Are Sexy

A Wedding RSVP Card for Horrible Guests

by Miss Cellania
Corey

Dool!

When you are preparing your wedding, it’s nice to know exactly how many people will show up, because a lot of your expenses and plans depend on the guest count. That’s why a guest must let the couple know whether they will attend, and why many invitations contain a card to make that easy. But brides would also like to know what kind of nightmares you're going to bring with you. Bob Powers posted this modern version of the wedding RSVP card at Someecards. It contains the most common obnoxious behavior among wedding guests, and it should have a second page for warnings of any disasters not specified on the first page. -via Laughing Squid

The Game of Thrones Recap You Never Knew You Wanted

Warning: The video has language that's NSF and, obviously, spoilers

Game of Thrones is returning on Sunday and just because Key & Peele are on vacation doesn't mean these two nerds were going to miss out on the chance to geek out over the show. Their valet characters are a perfect pair for summing up the first four seasons in the most ridiculous way they know how.

Redditor Sloppy_Episiotomy posted this picture of his baby's nursery saying, "The wifey said I have to take this down from my daughter's nursery immediately or she's taking the baby and leaving me." While some sites, like Nerd Approved have claimed that this is not appropriate decor for a baby's room, others have argued that it's a perfect way to start indoctrinating your children to love geeek culture from a young age. It's also a great option if you want your child to get possessed by a god. What do you guys think?

Tommy Wiseau's Underwear Ad Does for Commercials What The Room Does for Cinema

Corey

Amazing.

You can take that headline any way you'd like. You can cry, you can laff, you can espress yurseff but pleeze doan hurt each udder. One of the best things about the new sitcom The Neighbors is the way characters plug Tommy Wiseau underwear, and even spell out the website name where you can order it (look for yourself - I ain't helping). Because nothing says "NOW she'll totally bone you" like the name of a bleached-out vampire on your waist strap. But at last, Tommy has filmed a commercial for his briefs. And it's everything you'd hope it would be. P.S. Anyone who tattoos the phrase "Casino Goals" up the side of their torso - unless that is somehow the name of a family member - can frankly be pegged as the HUGEST DOUCHE IN THE WORLD. But doan worry about it. You tink abou eberyting, haha. Continue reading "Tommy Wiseau's Underwear Ad Does for Commercials What The Room Does for Cinema" >

17 More Episodes of ‘Arrested Development’ Coming to Netflix, Says Brian Grazer

by Angie Han

Arrested Development Season 4

Arrested Development will live again, again. Executive producer Brian Grazer says 17 new episodes will be coming to Netflix, although the streaming service itself has yet to make an official announcement. Hit the jump to read and hear his comments on more Arrested Development episodes.

Grazer shared the good news on Bill Simmons’ podcast:

I love Arrested Development. But it never — it was never a huge thing. But people are loyal to it, and we’re going to do another 17 episodes. So stay tuned for Arrested Development.

He did not elaborate on any other details, like which cast and crew members would return, how long the episodes would run, what the story might be, when they’d shoot, when they’d be released, or how the new season would be structured.

The news isn’t surprising, exactly. All involved parties have expressed interest in making more Arrested Development, pretty much since the moment Season 4 hit in 2013. But there’s usually some hedging involved. Grazer’s comments are the most direct indication we’ve had yet that another season of Arrested Development is in the works.

Timing was a huge hurdle for Arrested Development Season 4. With most of the original cast tied up doing other projects, Mitchell Hurwitz used creative scheduling and even some greenscreen to get the whole team back together, with mixed results. The actors aren’t much less busy now than they were in 2013, so it’s likely to be an issue again with Season 5.

In fact, Hurwitz has said he might prefer to make an Arrested Development movie before shooting another season, in order to minimize scheduling headaches. But unless Grazer is using some imprecise language here, it sounds like the next season of the series will move first after all.

For its part, Netflix hasn’t made any formal announcement about Arrested Development Season 5. If they’re at the point where they’ve decided on a number of episodes, though, plans must be further along than we thought.

‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl’ Trailer: The Sundance Smash Opens June 12

by Germain Lussier

me and earl and the dying girl trailer

Our favorite film of the Sundance Film Festival is coming out in June and the first trailer has been revealed. The film is Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, and it follows a high school slacker (Thomas Mann) who befriends a classmate (Olivia Cooke) who is dying. But that’s only part of the magic in this movie. Check out the first Me and Earl and the Dying Girl trailer below.

Thanks to Fox Searchlight.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl Trailer

You can read our review of the film at this link, which I recommend, because it’ll put into context why we loved this movie. It won the top two prizes at Sundance this year, which Oscar-winner Whiplash did the year before, but this trailer struggles to show why this movie is so great. That’s not the trailer’s fault though. It’s a kind of crazy, beautiful movie that works much better as a whole than it does in a two minute trailer. Nevertheless, tell us what you think below.

Here’s the official description:

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL is the uniquely funny, moving story of Greg (Thomas Mann), a high school senior who is trying to blend in anonymously, avoiding deeper relationships as a survival strategy for navigating the social minefield that is teenage life.  He even describes his constant companion Earl (RJ Cyler), with whom he makes short film parodies of classic movies, as more of a ‘co-worker’ than a best friend. But when Greg’s mom (Connie Britton) insists he spend time with Rachel (Olivia Cooke) – a girl in his class who has just been diagnosed with cancer – he slowly discovers how worthwhile the true bonds of friendship can be.

N.W.A. Takes The Stage In ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Trailer

by Wookie Johnson
Corey

The trailer is interesting, but the Giamatti/Howard the Duck thing made me laugh.

N.W.A. forever changed the face of hip-hop when they dropped Straight Outta Compton during the summer of 1988. Now, F. Gary Gray brings us this biopic that follows the events that put Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, DJ Yella, MC Ren, and Compton itself, on the map. It’s a chilling reminder that even over twenty years later, the fight against brutality continues.

O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, and Jason Mitchell star as three of the five well-spoken, poised, and introspective young rappers, while Paul Giamatti co-stars as Howard the Duck.
