Jonah Hill Interviews Action Bronson
The actor Jonah Hill is evidently a huge fan of Action Bronson, which makes as much sense as anything else, and he recently sat down to interview him for Interview magazine. A lot of the interview is Hill gushing to Bronson about how great is is and Bronson affirming that he's trying to be … More »The Drill Down 375: I’ve Got the Power

2014: The (belated) year in band names
Though it’s a little late this year, we couldn’t resist tradition and decided to compile a look at 2014′s most awesome/terrible band names. Here’s just a little preview of what’s in store:
- Bio: “We are Flaccid Pickle, a life of crunchiness we will never know. Glory, Wisdom, Strength, Courage, and Honor!”
- Songs: “Squirt Till It Hurts,” “My Load, Your Throat,” “Giant Tits/Swollen Clits,” “Innocent Till Proven Filthy,” “Discontinuation Of Hyperlactation.” Look for the new album Kissed By The Dead…Touched By The Deformed in May!
- “Channeling emotional turmoil through muscular, post punk aggression, the band shows off exceptional emotional and stylistic range in an album that has been compared to the rock and roll equivalent of a James Bond film: worldly, muscular, fully cognizant of the danger that lies underneath its smooth veneer and unafraid to show what’s behind the veil—on its own terms.”
I Got Worms
- “New York’s preeminent Dumb And Dumber Original Motion Picture Soundtrack cover band,” per Brokelyn.
- Bio: “Much like the product of a dove making love to a supernova, Tiny Danza has both rhythmic purity and tonal tenacity. On the evening of July 1st 2006 there was a horrible accident involving Tony Danza, a tiny dancer and a rogue particle accelerator. The result was five musicians with three things on their minds: Fast cars, Faster women and Revenge.”

Simon Pegg Gains Godlike Powers in ‘Absolutely Anything’ Trailer
If you’re a superhero, the saying goes that with great power comes with great responsibility. If you’re a supervillain, you’re terrible proof of the truism that absolute power corrupts absolutely. If you’re just some ordinary Joe, though, total power first offers an excuse to make a predictable dick joke.
That’s the takeaway from the first Absolutely Anything trailer, in which Neil (Simon Pegg) discovers he suddenly has the power to do, well, absolutely anything. His first instinct is to give himself a better body, a talking dog (voiced by Robin Williams), and a better look at a hot neighbor (Kate Beckinsale) who lives downstairs.
Terry Jones directed, and he and his Monty Python castmates (Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, John Cleese, and Michael Palin) voice the aliens who give Neil that power in the first place. Watch the Absolutely Anything trailer after the jump.
Lionsgate UK debuted the first Absolutely Anything trailer.
While Neil uses his new abilities to indulge in some easy self-improvement, the stakes are actually quite high. See, he’s been selected at random by some sort of intergalactic council, as some sort of test for our planet. If Neil can use absolute power for good, Earth will be saved; if not, it will be destroyed.
To his credit, it looks like he does eventually try and help the world, albeit in epically misguided ways. An attempt to bring back the dearly departed, for example, results in zombies roaming the Earth. The trailer makes Absolutely Anything look, more or less, like a British Bruce Almighty, but between Pegg’s charm and Williams’ comedy chops (in one of his last roles), this could prove a fun diversion.
Absolutely Anything opens August 14 in the U.K. No U.S. date has been set.
Absolutely Anything follows a disillusioned school teacher (Pegg) who suddenly finds he has the ability to do anything he wishes, a challenge bestowed upon him by a group of power-crazed aliens (voiced by Cleese, Gilliam, Jones, Palin & Idle), watching him from space.
As he struggles to deal with these new found powers and the events that subsequently arise, he calls upon his loyal canine companion Dennis (voiced by Robin Williams) to help him along the way.
Mishap after mishap finally leads him to the ultimate conundrum that all men dread and at which many have failed….should he choose the girl… or the dog… ?

New ‘Sense8′ Trailer: The Wachowskis Link Eight Minds

Update from Editor Peter Sciretta: Netflix has released a new trailer for The Wachowsi’s new original television series Sense8. Watch the new trailer now embedded after the jump.
Sense8 Concept Trailer
All ?12 episodes of the global dramatic thriller will launch on Friday, June 5th 2015 ?only on Netflix?.
Russ’ original post from May 7th follows:
The Wachowskis link eight lives in an usual way in their new Netflix series Sense8, and the debut Sense8 trailer shows some of the repercussions and benefits of being deeply linked to several other people at once. This is a break for the filmmakers, who have consistently worked in big-budget arenas ever since The Matrix became a massive hit in 1999. Now they’ve scaled back, and the results look interesting. Check out the trailer here.
I like this trailer; I’m intrigued. The Wachowskis can’t rely here on big-budget filmmaking, but instead had to strip back down to storytelling basics, and I’m eager to see how that plays out.
And while there’s one set of shots here that seems to replicate The Matrix in some ways, a closer look suggests the shot might not be what we think it is — there’s a camera clearly visible, and a stunt rig. Are those elements something that shouldn’t have been left in for the trailer (very doubtful) or elements that tell us we’re seeing a movie set within the context of the story?
Sense8 will launch as a 12-episode series Friday, June 5 only on Netflix.
One moment links 8 minds in disparate parts of the world, putting 8 strangers in each other’s lives, each other’s secrets, and in terrible danger. From the unparalleled creative minds of The Wachowskis (“The Matrix” trilogy, “Cloud Atlas”) and J. Michael Straczynski (Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling,” “World War Z”), as well as Grant Hill (“The Matrix” trilogy, “Cloud Atlas”).
The international cast includes: Brian J. Smith, Tuppence Middleton, Jamie Clayton, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Tina Desai, Doona Bae, Aml Ameen and Max Riemelt. Also, Daryl Hannah, Naveen Andrews, Terrence Mann, Freema Agyeman, Alfonso Herrera, Erendira Ibarra, Adam Shapiro, Ness Bautista and Joe Pantoliano. Unlike anything seen on television before, Sense8 pushes the boundaries in style, scope and story. For more information about #Sense8, follow the series on Twitter.

Rugby Players Have Missing Teeth Replaced with Bottle Openers
CoreyElias.

To promote Salta Beer, the ad agency Ogilvy Argentina designed a tooth implant that functions as a bottle opener. It then had a dentist screw the implants into the jaws of three rugby players who had lost teeth in action.
They are totally effective. In fact, we should get bottle openers on both sides of our mouths so that we can open two bottles at the same time!

MacGyver Could Learn A Thing Or Two From These Very Inventive People
Even though we live in an age full of electronic gadgets, apps for every occasion and products designed to make our modern lives easier the old cliché “necessity is the mother of invention” still rings true.
People who are faced with a problem technology can’t solve get crafty and invent a new way to make their lives more livable...and more fun!
Need to get to work on a car that has only three tires? If you’ve got a push cart and a buddy around you’ve got all you need to get back on the road like a boss

Are you fresh out of clean bowls yet desperately in need of your nightly ramen fix? Use your melon!

Living on a street that’s constantly flooding can make getting around town a real pain, but if you follow this guy’s example and strap tiny stools to your shoes you can rise above the rainfall.

A bicycle can’t help you cross a raging river, but if you strap some inflatable paddle tires to the front of your bike no body of water will ever stand in the way of your dreams!

Split screen gaming can be a real eyesore, but clever gamers can come up with a simple solution off the top of their heads

It’s tough to find time to bathe after work, but if you’re working on a jobsite with an earth mover and some scrap wood then you can whip up a nice, warm bath so you can soak your buns before date night!

Having your electricity shut off due to non-payment means growing accustomed to eating cold beans out of a can, unless you’re a crafty cook with plenty of candles on hand.

Who needs tires when you’ve got six pairs of sneakers and a bicycle frame? Certainly not this guy!

Holding your book open can make your thumb mighty sore, and it tends to get stuck in the crack between the pages. Instead, you should skip the thumb pain and use a wooden wing thingy to hold those pages in place.

It takes a really long time to get drunk when you have to pour beers down your throat one at a time, but follow this guy’s example and you'll be hammered in one fourth the time.

Biking through the mean streets of the urban jungle doesn’t have to be a dangerous affair- simply slip a barbecue around your body and consider your grill protected!

Most people have a laptop these days, but not everyone can afford an mp3 player. So how can a music lover keep the tunes flowing into their earholes? Just tuck your laptop into your pants and the musical vibrations will make you want to shake your buns!

If you have to wash a sink full of dirty dishes just to get a glass of water from the faucet then you’re liable to die of thirst, so forge your own tinfoil trough and stay hydrated.

It’s hard to compete with ultra-butch biker gangs when you’re riding around town on a piddly little dirtbike, but when you combine a motorcycle with a tractor you've got a gargantuan vehicle guaranteed to crush the competition.

Next time you find yourself stuck in a situation without an electronic solution take a note from these crafty people and slap something together on the fly!

The Internet Reacts to the New Hamburglar

In its efforts to stay relevant and in the black, McDonald's is having to make a lot of changes. One such change made of late is introducing a new Hamburglar. While the old Hamburglar looked like something of a ghoul, the new "ready for live action" Hamdude is even being called "hot" by some observers. Whatever the general consensus ends up being, you didn't expect the internet to be quiet about such a major McDonald's milestone, did you?
Above and below are some of the reactions to the new Hamburglar. See more here.

A.V. Undercover: Andrew Jackson Jihad and Jeff Rosenstock mash-up 16 Undercover hits
CoreyYES!
Earlier this year The A.V. Club presented a spring tour featuring Andrew Jackson Jihad, The Smith Street Band, Jeff Rosenstock, and Chumped, so we figured we should probably have some of those bands into the studio. Given that Andrew Jackson Jihad had already taken on Stone Temple Pliots’ “Plush” last season, we offered them a challenge: to put as many past Undercover songs together into a medley/mash-up. Not to be outdone, Rosenstock and his bandmates accepted the challenge as well, making for a 16-song mega Undercover that sees the bands switch songs—and switch places—without ever letting the energy drop. See if you can catch all the songs the bands included and put your answers in the comments. Come back next week for the launch of Undercover’s regular season.
In addition to the regular Undercover videos, this year we’ll be running Undercover Q&As separate from ...
Great Job, Internet!: Here’s this week’s Game Of Thrones battle reimagined as Street Fighter
This post contains major plot points from this week’s Game Of Thrones.
Ser Barristan Selmy and Grey Worm probably didn’t top many fan favorite lists, but their (probable) deaths at the hands of the Sons of the Harpy on this week’s Game Of Thrones proved surprisingly heartbreaking. Thankfully YouTube user Ozzy Man Reviews turned the whole final battle into a Street Fighter parody, allowing fans to laugh off yet another in a long line of painful deaths on this show while we try not to think about how sad Missandei is going to be.

Empathy Cards For Serious Illness

Emily McDowell is an illustrator, greeting card designer, and a cancer survivor. Now she’s put her experience to work in creating a line of greeting cards that cancer patients and survivors say really hit the mark. The line of eight greetings are called Empathy Cards.
The most difficult part of my illness wasn’t losing my hair, or being erroneously called “sir” by Starbucks baristas, or sickness from chemo. It was the loneliness and isolation I felt when many of my close friends and family members disappeared because they didn’t know what to say, or said the absolute wrong thing without realizing it.

Mets games on SNY are drawing nearly as well as Yankees games on YES
The Mets' television ratings this year are closer to the Yankees' than they've ever been since SNY began broadcasting nine years ago.
For the first time since the birth of SNY in 2005, the Mets' TV ratings are within striking distance of the Yankees'.
Television viewership for Mets games this year is up 47% from last year, while on YES, the Yankees' TV ratings are down 21%. The Yankees are still drawing more viewers—267,000 per game compared to 253,339 for the Mets—but the gap has never been this close in the nine-plus years that Mets games have been on SNY.
The Mets' red-hot start probably has a lot to do with it, but what fans seem to want to see most is when Matt Harvey takes the mound. So far in 2015, the most-viewed game by either team was Harvey’s return to Citi Field on April 14.
The Mets and Yankees face off this weekend in the first Subway Series of the season, so the corresponding cable-ratings battle will be (moderately) interesting. The games will be on SNY and YES on Friday and Saturday night—MLB Network will also air the Friday affair—and ESPN will exclusively air the Sunday evening game.
The Mets roll into the series riding an 11-game winning streak, while the Yankees are two games above .500 at 9-7.
