At the beginning of the year, those of us in the United Kingdom (as well as some other unlucky territories such as Turkey and India) had to deal with the aftermath of certain political actions - even within the seemingly safe haven of the App Store - as prices rose by around 25% across the board. With many question marks over economic stability of certain countries around the world, it seemed inevitable that other states would soon be affected by this most recent App Store price hike, and today Mexico, Denmark, and all the countries that use the Euro have today faced a similar fate. As our sister site MacRumors reported last week, apps previously costing 0,99 € are now 1,09 € - more expensive games have risen even more dramatically, with something such as Death Road for Canada [$7.99] now 8,99 €, as opposed to its old 7,99 € cost of entry.
Even my boundless optimism is struggling to put some sort of positive perspective on this price increase, as it really is a massively disappointing action for all our readers in the affected regions. With ominous signs of support for 32-bit applications being abandoned in the next major iOS update, this is yet another kick in the teeth for the iOS gaming community. My grasp of international economics isn't strong enough to state whether this is an unfortunate inevitability of the climate or an opportunistic move from Apple (both aren't necessarily mutually exclusive), but there may be a small benefit to take from all of this. Similarly to on the UK App Store, a new 0,49 € pricing tier has emerged from some of the cheaper iOS titles such as Hitman Sniper [$0.99] - if you buy a lot of less expensive games or in-app purchases, there's a chance you may benefit out of these recent changes. THQ Nordic hat nach den heutigen Gerüchten nun Darksiders 3 offiziell für PC, PlayStation 4 und Xbox One angekündigt. Das Hack-'n'-Slash-Action-Adventure soll 2018 erscheinen. Entwickelt wird der Titel in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Team von Gunfire Games, welches sich hauptsächlich aus den ursprünglichen Schöpfern der Darksiders-Reihe zusammensetzt.
"Das Hack-'n'-Slash-Action-Adventure Darksiders 3 kehrt auf eine apokalyptische Erde zurück, auf der die Spieler in die Rolle von Fury schlüpfen. Ihre Aufgabe ist es, die Sieben Todsünden aufzuspüren und zu beseitigen. After six years, Nintendo may finally be walking away from a patent dispute over its Mii characters. In 2011, US company RecogniCorp sued Nintendo for allegedly infringing on its patented technology for producing and storing police sketch-artist data. Now the US federal appeals court has ruled in Nintendo's favor, upholding a previous decision.
“We are very pleased with the court’s decision,” said Ajay Singh, Nintendo of America’s Director of Litigation and Compliance.
“The decision marks another case in which Nintendo’s unique ideas overcame unjustified threats of patent infringement.”
In 2015, RecogniCorp lost its lawsuit against Nintendo. It claims the technology that stores Nintendo’s Mii characters employs the same techniques described in its patent for making police sketches of suspects. A federal judge ruled against the claim and in Nintendo's favor, saying mathematical operations cannot be patented.
Yesterday, the company lost its appeal for the same reason once again.
"Nintendo has a long history of developing innovative products and we will continue to vigorously defend all our products from meritless patent lawsuits," said Singh.
Nintendo has a long history of patent lawsuits and appeals. Last year, an appeals court judge overturned a $30.2 million lawsuit involving a former Sony inventor, who claimed Nintendo infringed on his 3D display technology when making the 3DS. The appeals judge sided with Nintendo, despite the earlier ruling against the company.
Back in 2015, we talked about Facebook Messenger getting into gaming, with Facebook reaching out to developers and enticing them with the millions of Facebook users as well as some cool new tools and features. Today, Facebook announced that Instant Games, which is what the Messenger games platform is called now, is starting to roll out more broadly to all Messenger users (all 1.2 billion of them apparently). Instant Games is launching with around 50 games, including the classic Zynga game Words With Friends, which most of you probably played at one point or another. Instant Games will be rolling our over the next few weeks for both iOS and Android.
What's interesting—and quite promising for gaming—are the new features added to games on this platform. Developers working on Instant Games can use all kinds of game bots, which will be pretty much a gaming first. Instant Games will also allow for customizable game messages during play (of course), taking advantage in that way of the Messenger part of Instant Games. What do you think? It’s hard to believe given its place in history, but the original Xbox was only really around for four years. That’s not long in console terms, but as we all found, when it came to Microsoft’s first console the focus was on quality, not quantity.

Auch zwei Neuzugänge im Team und allerlei Merchandise (wie eine zweifarbige Doppel-LP) werden in dem Post vorgestellt.

Bei einer Fragen-und-Antworten-Runde für Investoren zum jüngsten Geschäftsbericht (wir berichteten) ging Tatsumi Kimishima (Präsident von Nintendo) auf die Absatzziele von Switch ein und blickte optimistisch in die Zukunft. Er zog Vergleiche zum Wii-Erfolg (über 100 Millionen verkaufte Konsolen) und bezeichnete die Mischung aus Handheld und TV-Konsole als einen Schlüssel zum Erfolg.
Kimishima: "Die Wahrheit ist, dass wir die installierte Basis von Switch auf das Niveau der Wii anheben wollen. Wie wir während unserer Präsentation erwähnt haben, hatte Switch in Amerika den besten/schnellsten Start einer Nintendo-Hardware überhaupt - trotz der Markteinführung im März. Im Videospiel-Geschäft ist es wichtig, dass die Verbraucher spüren, dass die Verkaufsdynamik [der Konsole] weiter anhält und wir wollen mit Nintendo Switch einen Standard setzen und werden von jetzt an eine Reihe großer Software-Titel veröffentlichen [Arms, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey]. Und wenn die Verkäufe unseren Prognosen für das Geschäftsjahr entsprechen, werden wir sehen, dass Switch an Verkaufsdynamik gewinnt und im Nachhinein eine relative Parität mit der Wii erreichen kann. Und wenn man noch bedenkt, dass Nintendo Switch ein Heimkonsolen-Videospiel-System ist, das man auch mitnehmen und jederzeit, überall und mit jedem spielen kann, denken wir, dass es Haushalte geben wird, in denen eine Switch-Konsole nicht genug sein wird. Das ist ein weiterer Punkt, der uns schätzen lässt, dass Switch die Popularität der Wii erreichen kann."
Nintendo konnte im März 2017 weltweit 2,74 Millionen Exemplare der Konsole ausliefern. Ihre eigene Prognose lag bei zwei Millionen. Im laufenden Geschäftsjahr (April 2017 bis März 2018) sollen zehn Millionen Geräte ausgeliefert werden. Kimishima sagte: "Für uns ist es essenziell wichtig, eine installierte Hardwarebasis von zehn Millionen Einheiten zu erreichen, um ein starkes Geschäft aufbauen zu können." Und wenn sie diese 10-Millionen-Marke erreichen würden, dann wäre die Switch-Verkaufsdynamik beinahe auf Wii-Niveau, erklärte der Nintendo-Präsident. Um das Ziel zu erreichen, hätten sie die Produktionsressourcen schon deutlich ausgebaut.

Nintendo has revealed via press release the first details for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's upcoming DLC, which is called The Master Trials and will be released this summer.
Here's a breakdown of everything The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – The Master Trials will include:
Trial of the Sword: By accessing this location, players can challenge the new Trial of the Sword (previously known as “Cave of Trials Challenge”), where enemies appear one after another. Link starts without any armor or weapons, and if he defeats all of the enemies in the room he can proceed to the next area. Trial of the Sword will include around 45 total rooms for players to complete. When Link clears all of the trials, the true power of the Master Sword will awaken and always be in its glowing powered-up state.
Hard Mode: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is already considered one of the most thrilling games in The Legend of Zelda series, and fans looking for a challenge are in for a treat with the new Hard Mode. In Hard Mode, the “ranks” of enemies in the game are increased (i.e. Red Bokoblins change to Blue), and players might even encounter higher-ranking enemies they wouldn’t find through normal play. Enemies will also slowly recover health in battle, forcing you to defeat them more quickly. They will also more easily spot Link as he approaches them, making these enemies tougher to sneak up on. In addition, floating planks held aloft by balloons will be scattered around Hyrule. By successfully reaching these planks, players can battle enemies and collect treasure.
Hero’s Path Mode: Exploring Hyrule is exciting, but with such a large world it’s sometimes hard for players to remember where they’ve been. To help with tracking progress, the new Hero’s Path Mode will document every step players take, and mark their path in green on the map. The route taken will be tracked for the player’s last 200 hours of play time, with an included slider to track footsteps on a timeline. This even works retroactively, so players that have already put many hours into the game will be able to see where they have traveled. This feature will help in identifying the locations they haven’t visited in this vast world, and may help players find those Shrines they haven’t encountered yet.
Travel Medallion: There will be a new treasure chest somewhere in the game world which contains the Travel Medallion. With the Travel Medallion, players can create a temporary new travel point on the map where they are currently standing. Link can then transport himself to that point at any time. Only one travel point can be registered on the map at a time.
Korok Mask: By finding the new Korok Mask, players will have a much easier time finding Korok locations in the game. When equipped, the mask will shake, indicating that a Korok is hidden somewhere nearby.
New Equipment: Eight new pieces of equipment inspired by previous characters and games in the series will be added to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild after downloading the first DLC pack. Once discovered by the player, they will yield equipment themed after fan-favorite games and characters such as Midna, Tingle, Phantom and Majora’s Mask.
Information regarding the second DLC pack will be revealed in the near future. Both expansions will be available on the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
Finally, a free update released today allowing for dual audio to be used in the game. This means that Breath of the Wild can now be played in nine languages with subtitles. The languages included are: Japanese, English, French (France), French (Canada), German, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Latin America), Italian, and Russian.
In advance of the Switch's release, Nintendo reassured fans that it would do its best to meet demand by shipping 2 million units worldwide by the end of March. It ended up shipping quite a few more than that, thanks in part to a bold move we now know it made.
Rather than relying quite so heavily on sea freight, Nintendo also shipped an unspecified number of consoles by air, the Wall Street Journal reports. A company spokesperson said, "We carried some of the Switches by plane in March to serve our customers more promptly." The company has since gone back to shipping systems by sea.
That's an expensive move and one that is, as the report notes, fairly unusual. Ace Research Institute analyst Hideki Yasuda told the WSJ, "Air is a big profit-squeezer because it could cost additional 5,000 yen per unit," which translates to about $45/£35.
Nintendo didn't say where these systems were shipped, though experts cited by the WSJ suggest the US and Europe were likely destinations, as you'd expect.
As noted above, Nintendo delivered more systems in March than previously expected. A total of 2.74 million Switch consoles were shipped by March 31, Nintendo announced as part of its recent earnings report. It said it will ship an additional 10 million Switch units during the current fiscal year, which runs through March 2018.

Nintendo announced Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold 459,000 units first day on the Nintendo Switch in the US. The figure includes retail and digital sales. That equals an attach rate of 45 percent.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the fastest-selling game in franchise history. The previous record holder was Mario Kart Wii, with sales of 433,900 units in the US.
