Land Rover deverá anunciar fábrica fluminense no dia 3 de dezembro

by Ricardo de Oliveira

Client: But what if I don’t like the design - will you refund my money?

Me: I’m sure you’ll like the design if we work together on it.

Client: But how do you KNOW I will like it?

Me: Well, if there’s something about the design that you don’t like, we will discuss it, and I will revise it to your tastes.

Client: But what if you do everything I ask and I still don’t like it?

I received a bug complaint from a client, stating:

Client: Part of the heading at the top of the page is hyperlinked. When you click on it, it goes to a www.freescore360.com advertisement. It only happens sometimes.  See attached video.

The video was 6 minutes of repeated clicking on Chrome’s refresh button. Every so often, a random word from the page’s title would turn into a hyperlink.

Me: What’s that little blue extension icon to the right of their address bar?

Client: Oh that? That’s the My Free Credit Score browser extension.  Why?

só 60 pixels. e toda a diferença!

by @srlm

Adafruit Holiday Gift Guide 2013: Electronics Tools

by Kelly

The tools you use to build, tinker with, and fix your electronics are as important as the electronic products and components themselves. The proper tool can salvage something you thought was done for or even help lead you in a direction that exceeds your original expectations about the project you set out to accomplish. We’ve got a range of suggestions for you this year: from open source hardware tools, to a multimeter pen, even a portable Wifi Microscope.

136 LRG

For those engineers who are just getting started, check out Ladyada’s Electronic’s Toolkit: Working with substandard equipment is a terrible way to learn electronics: a lot of frustration with too little success. The right tool set will keep you progressing without the stressing. This toolbox contains carefully selected hand tools that will last you for many many years. The kit includes: 30W adjustable temperature soldering iron, Soldering stand, Solder, rosin-core, 0.031″ diameter, 1/4 lb (100g) spool, Solder sucker, Panavise Jr, Diagonal cutters, and much more! 1550 LRG

JTAGulator by Grand Idea Studio: On-chip debug (OCD) interfaces can provide chip-level control of a target device and are a primary vector used by engineers, researchers, and hackers to extract program code or data, modify memory contents, or affect device operation on-the-fly. Depending on the complexity of the target device, manually locating available OCD connections can be a difficult and time consuming task, sometimes requiring physical destruction or modification of the device. JTAGulator is an open source hardware tool that assists in identifying OCD connections from test points, vias, or component pads on a target device. (read more)

1549 LRG

Adafruit USB Power Gauge Mini-Kit: This little USB port go-between is like a speed gauge for your USB devices. Instead of hauling out a multimeter and splicing cables, plug this in between for a quick reading on how much current is being drawn from the port. Great for seeing the charge rate of your phone or tablet, checking your battery chargers, or other USB powered projects. (read more)

1359 LRG

SMD Component Testing Tweezers: These tweezers are perfect for anyone who does a lot of work with SMD components (and hey, who isn’t these days?) Use these instead of squinting and trying to use clumsy multimeter probes to detect an LED’s color, polarity or resistor/cap value! The multimeter ‘probes’ are the two tips of a tweezer-shaped multimeter. Simply ‘grab’ a resistor, capacitor, diode or LED to test. It has a “scanning” mode where it will try to guess what type of component you have, or you can select the component type with the Function button and it will auto-range for you. (read more)

1425 LRG

1360 LRG

Autoranging Digital Multimeter Pen – MS8211D: Chances are you spent time today poking into a circuit with two hands and then craning your neck over looking over at a multimeter display, which causes you to slip and lose your spot. OK well at least we had to do that, and that’s when we decided it was time to pick up one of these pen-style digital multimeters. It’s small and light but has a full featured multimeter inside. The ground probe is actually a wired clamp (it has a nice sharp tip or you can grab onto a ground wire). So you can just poke around with one hand and see the values instantly. (read more)

1528 LRG

Oscilloscope Probe 100MHz: Poke and prod your electronics with a new ‘scope probe. This is a classic probe, good quality and has a nice strong spring-clip and grounding clip. Good for up to 100MHz signals, with a standard oscilloscope BNC connector. Comes as shown, the ring color on the body of the probe/connector may vary. (read more)

1554 LRG

Adafruit PCB Ruler – 6″: The first time you soldered up a surface mount component you may have been surprised “these are really small parts!” and there’s dozens of different names too! QFN, TDFN, SOIC, SOP, J-Lead, what do they mean and how can you tell how big they are? Now you can have a reference board at your fingertips, with this snazzy PCB reference ruler. (read more)

1276 LRG

WiFi Portable Microscope – Usable With Android/iPad/iPhone: As electronics get smaller and smaller, you’ll need a hand examining PCBs and this little USB microscope is the perfect tool. Its smaller and lighter than a large optical microscope but packs quite a bit of power in its little body. There’s a high quality 640×480 camera sensor inside and an optical magnifier that can adjust from 5x (for basic PCB inspection) to 200x (for detailed inspection). Eight mini white LEDs are angled right onto whatever you’re examining so you get enough lighting to see, and are smoothly adjustable via a dial on the side. (read more)

by Carlos Ruas

moscaformiga

iFixit disassembles the Xbox One and finds NAND, high repairability

by Lee Hutchinson

Those crazy iFixit people were up with the Dawn Patrol this morning, attacking an Xbox One with screwdrivers and spudgers to see what Microsoft's shiny new console looks like on the inside. The iFixit team had to hunt around a bit to find an initial entry point, but they ended up starting by removing the system's large grille, which exposed a set of clips.

Immediately inside the plastic case is a metal shield; attached to this are the One's Wi-Fi assembly and a small speaker. After removing those, the shield can be unscrewed and set aside, allowing access to the actual guts of the machine.

iFixit lauds Microsoft's decision to attach the system's Blu-ray drive and hard disk drive to the motherboard with standard SATA connectors. Commodity parts are in evidence—the system uses a 2.5-inch Samsung Spinpoint 5400 rpm SATA II HDD. When the iFixit crew attached the HDD to a computer, they found the 500GB disk contained a GPT partition map with five partitions: Temp Content, User Content, System Support, System Update, and System Update 2. The 500GB drive had about 472GB of free space. The system was fresh out of the box and had never been powered on.

Newegg’s chief counsel testifies: 30 infringement claims in last 8 years alone

by Joe Mullin
Newegg Chief Legal Officer Lee Cheng

MARSHALL,TX—"Imagine you're sitting at home minding your own business," said Newegg lawyer Kent Baldauf in opening statements earlier this week. "Someone knocks on your door and tells you—or demands from you—millions of dollars for a service that you're already paying someone else for."

Imagine the service is cable television and that you're already paying the cable company.

"But this person tells you, 'We own a patent on cable TV, and you owe us too for all the years you've been watching cable TV,'" Baldauf continued. "Then you look into it, and you find out, wait a minute, this patent really doesn't cover what they say it covers. What would you do? My guess is you [would] do exactly what Newegg has done here. You would say: That's not right. I want my day in court."

Intense gamma-ray burst spells doom—for our models of gamma-ray bursts

by John Timmer
A massive star goes boom, leaving behind a black hole and sending off a burst of gamma rays.
NSF

Back in April, orbiting observatories started picking up the first indications of a gamma-ray burst. By the time observations wrapped up, the event (GRB 130427A) produced the largest outpouring of photons of any yet detected, and it set a record for the highest energy photon we've seen from these events. And because it was unusually close to Earth, GRB 130427A provided a wealth of information about these extreme events—and told us that we don't really understand how they produce the gamma-rays that are their signature.

Yesterday's issue of Science contains four papers that describe the event, partly because it was unusually well-documented. The enormous stars that produce gamma-ray bursts were much more common in the early Universe and, as a result, most of them occur out at the edge of the observable Universe. But GRB 130427A is an exception; the Universe was already about 10 billion years old when it happened, meaning the supernova that produced the gamma rays occurred less than four billion light years from Earth. As a result, ground-based instruments that were directed to the right area of the sky by the orbiting instruments were quickly able to identify the supernova involved (SN 2013cq).

Meanwhile, the orbiting observatories like SWIFT and Fermi continued to track the event as it occurred. The data they gathered showed that GRB 130427A was an impressive event. At lower energies, it showed a characteristic initial burst followed by a pause of several seconds. The pause ended with a long and complex series of emissions that lasted for roughly 10 seconds, after which there was a gradual tailing off of activity. At the highest energies, however, there was a steady buzz of activity from five seconds out to at least 30, and gamma rays continued to be detected out to 20 hours, setting a record for these events

iFixit opens up the Playstation 4—replaceable hard drive earns big props

by Lee Hutchinson

In addition to tearing apart an Xbox One, the iFixit folks also recently pried apart Sony's latest console, the PlayStation 4. One of the immediately noticeable differences between the two consoles is the accessibility of the primary storage. The Xbox One requires a considerable amount of disassembly to pull out and replace the hard disk drive, and iFixit calls it a warranty-voiding procedure. Sony, on the other hand, makes pulling out the 2.5-inch 5400 rpm SATA II drive relatively simple—it requires only a single Philips-head screwdriver.

However, aside from the user-replaceable HDD, getting into the system's guts is a little harder than with the Xbox One. The One uses standard T9 Torx screws, while the PS4 uses Torx Security screws, which won't seat a screwdriver with a regular Torx bit.

Once inside the cover, the iFixit crew first removed the system's large internal power supply. Many people consider this design decision to be a serious point in Sony's favor since it means the PS4 doesn't have a large external power brick like the Xbox One. However, thermal engineering is a deeply complex topic, and there are design trade-offs to be made by putting a hot component like the PSU inside of the case. Here, after removing the power supply, the PS4 shows its custom-designed ducted fan and tall heatsink assembly. Unlike the One's relatively traditional heatsink/fan combo, the PS4 more tightly controls airflow to handle the system's thermal load.
