The Sandy Beach Architecture of Calvin Seibert
VITIManBIACH
Artist Calvin Seibert (previously) recently completed a new series of his geometrically precise sand castles on the beaches of Hawaii. A professional sculptor, Seibert seems to borrow angular ideas from Bauhaus architecture or the flair of Frank Gehry. How he’s able to control the sand so perfectly is anyone’s guess, it certainly puts my traditional upside down bucket method to shame. You can see more of his work over the last few years here.

I drew a big ol’ Steven Universe scramble, I really like how it turned out! If you come see me at Otakon I’m gonna be selling it as a print.
Steven Universe is a good show and I’m super glad kids have it! Some of the episodes are hit or miss for me ~*~AS A CRITIC~*~, but that’s every show, and when the writing is on point it’s the best cartoon airing (My favorite episodes have definitely been The Test and Keystone Motel, BUT, THERE’S A LOT OF GOOD ONES…). I hope we get more of it and more things like it down the line: longform serial storytelling with a unique world and aesthetic. OKAY, that’s all, see you later.
P.S. read my webcomic Paranatural if you haven’t already :^)

Zapatilla Nike de carne humana, animatrónica. Just deal with it
VITIManAsquete, no?

The Fourth Wall: A Rare View of Famous European Theater Auditoriums Photographed from the Stage
VITIManLa Donna e MOBILE PHONE
For his ongoing series The Fourth Wall, Hamburg-based photographer Klaus Frahm shatters the illusion of stagecraft by taking us behind-the-scenes of several European theaters. Shot from the vantage point of the stage looking toward the audience, the photos reveal the stark contrast of ornate auditoriums and the technological scaffolding that facilitates a major theatrical production. Frahm captures the elaborate configurations of lights and the surprising enormity of the fly space hidden just behind the red curtain that can be up to three times larger than the seating area.
Frahm says the intention behind his photography “is to give way for a new perspective, to entertain, to offer a fresh sight on familiar things,” and to “reveal something laying under the surface.” The Fourth Wall project began in 2010 when he was documenting a new theater for an architect which involved a series of shots facing the wings and other angles from the stage. When reviewing his polaroids later that day he was immediately struck by the image-within-an-image contrast of the warm, fully-lit theater seats and the cold, hidden infrastructure. Klaus had ingeniously turned the tables: suddenly the audience was the spectacle and the stage was reality.
You can see more from the Fourth Wall series on Fram’s website. If you enjoyed this, also check out the work of David Leventi. (via It’s Nice That, thnx Kevin!)
VITIManDiego, a participar.

A feast for the eyes
VITIManHAMBRE, OSTIAS.
This authentic-looking LEGO sushi bar is the work of Malaysian builder Denil Oh. The attention to detail in every corner of this scene is amazing – and extends right up to the walls! I also like the subtle use of custom stickering to give the cuts of fish an appetizing sheen. Check out tons more delicious close-up images over on Flickr.

Primer tráiler de Minecraft: Story Mode
VITIManAle, volvemos a la carga.
Telltale Games (The Walking Dead y Tales from the Borderlands) ha mostrado el primer tráiler de Minecraft: Story Mode. Leer noticia completa y comentarios »

It’s the work of stain-art, who created it for his friend who loves both Star Wars and Borderlands. I’d say he nailed it.
And just imagine if Artoo’s beeps and boops were translated to Claptrap’s vernacular. Oh man, I would love to see conversations between him and C-3PO!

VITIManCHI CHO, CHICHO CHICHO, CHICHO CHICHO.

The Inverted Architecture and Gravity-Defying Worlds of Cinta Vidal
VITIManA pasar el día.
In her latest series of paintings, Barcelona-based artist and illustrator Cinta Vidal Agulló defies gravity and architectural conventions to create encapsulated scenes of intersecting perspectives. Painted with acrylic on wood panels, Vidal refers to the paintings as “un-gravity constructions” and says that each piece examines how a person’s internal perspective of life may not match up with the reality around them. The intersecting planes on many of her paintings are somewhat reminiscent of drawings by M.C. Escher, where every angle and available surface is inhabited by colorful characters going about their daily lives. She shares in a new interview with Hi-Fructose:
With these un-gravity constructions, I want to show that we live in one world, but we live in it in very different ways – playing with everyday objects and spaces, placed in impossible ways to express that many times, the inner dimension of each one of us does not match the mental structures of those around us. The architectural spaces and day-to-day objects are part of a metaphor of how difficult it is to fit everything that shapes our daily space: our relationships, work, ambitions, and dreams.
Vidal just opened a new exhibition of work at Miscelanea BCN in Barcelona and you can read an in-depth conversation with the artist on Hi-Fructose.
