How to Make Your Kitchen Look Clean When You're Too Lazy to Actually Clean It

by Heather Yamada-Hosley

I’m one of those people whose stress level is directly related to how messy my apartment is, especially my kitchen (because that’s where the most mess happens). But, I’d also rather binge watch Parks & Rec than clean. So, I decided to give the S.O.S.D. method a try and see if it strikes the balance between clean and…

Theoretically, it’s better to spend more on quality, but that’s only true if the quality item lasts. I used to have a bad habit of tossing my clothes from the hamper to the dryer without giving it much thought. If you buy quality, this is an expensive mistake. Here’s how to take better care of your clothes.

Don't Be Fooled by "Protein Cookies" and Other "Protein" Junk Foods

by Stephanie Lee on Vitals, shared by Andy Orin to Lifehacker

The other day at the gym, I found this bag of peanut butter “protein cookies” and was utterly fascinated by it. The packaging proudly displays “18 grams of protein per bag,” along with every healthy-sounding buzzword there is: non-GMO, gluten-free, and high protein. Let’s not put on airs, bag of cookies, you’re still…

Leftover Rice Could Make You Very Sick

by Claire Lower on Skillet, shared by Andy Orin to Lifehacker

On a scale from “1” to “listeria” the amount of stomach trouble I would expect a bowl of rice to give me falls around a “2,” but apparently the seemingly innocuous grain can inflict a lot of pain if it’s not stored properly.

The Secret to Adding Time to Coin-Op Dryers

by Heather Yamada-Hosley

The dryer in my building never dries a load in one cycle, which means I end up paying for two dry cycles when my clothes really only need one and a half per load. That’s a waste of energy, money, and time. So, when I heard about this trick to add time incrementally, I had to give it a try. After all, it would only…

BucknBear Damascus Multi-tool

submitted by Ed Jelley

If you want to carry a multi-tool but you're worried it'll weigh you down, a one-piece tool is the way to go. This handmade tool from Pennsylvania's own BucknBear packs 7 handy features into a single compact piece of metal. But it's not just any metal. Unlike most pocket tools, this one's forged from a modern damascus steel. The result is a versatile EDC with a one-of-a-kind finish, fortified with layers and layers of durability.

That's all thanks to the damascus — one of the toughest materials out there. It's made by repeatedly layering and heat treating steel to make it as hard as possible. BucknBear even uses their own in-house Rockwell hardness testing equipment to ensure each tool meets their durability standards.

On the tool itself, you'll find seven useful functions: there’s a multi size hex wrench, nail puller, hex, Phillips- and flat-head screwdrivers, bottle opener, and a key ring. It's sized to ride comfortably on your keychain setup, ready to go when you need it. Even with that kind of portability, it's comfortably large enough to use each of the tools with ease.

If you've been looking to get more utility out of your keychain without the bulk, consider this. You can grab this tool, along with other modern damascus gear exclusively from Huckberry at the link below.

Eshena Bagram Pack

submitted by Jonathan Tayag

The perfect everyday carry bag has the space you need and the features you want — for all the situations you'll need it. And whether that's traveling, hitting the gym, or just heading out and about, ESHENA Gear's Bagram Pack delivers. This new Kickstarter project combines a thoughtful set of core features with all-over MOLLE modularity for a tactical look and endless customization.

With a 30-liter capacity and numerous compartments, the Bagram Pack is large enough to be your go-to travel and gym bag. You'll find that it's easy to fill the bag and access your gear because of its clamshell design. Even if it's filled to the brim with all of your gear, the strap design side handle makes carrying it around a simple matter.

The thoughtful design of the Bagram Pack accounts for the stuff you'll bring with it on a daily basis. It has a dedicated ventilated shoe compartment at the bottom of the bag. There's a laptop and tablet sleeve in the main compartment. On the sides of the bag you get an expandable water bottle holder and a space for an external battery charger and the attendant cord. These areas are all secured with solid YKK zippers and TSA-compliant lock spaces that are great for when you are on the go.

MOLLE attachment points cover the exterior of the bag, and there's even some in the main compartment. The Bagram Pack comes with a number of smaller MOLLE organizers depending on your level of commitment to the Kickstarter. These modular organizers are special because  they have a magnetic closure that makes it easy to put them on and take them off your bag.

The best part about all this is that the Bagram Pack is fully funded on Kickstarter, and Eshena has fulfilled successful crowdfunding campaigns in the past. Hop onto the Bagram Pack train and make a pledge to secure a bag of your own at the link below.

Nintendo should have fixed the problems left Joy-Con

by cellmate707

Even before the launch of Nintendo Switch came the first reports of problems with the console’s detachable Joy-Con controllers. Several media with early access to the machine experienced connection problems with especially the left controller and also after launching persisted problems for some.

Some members of Gamer editors also struggled with the left controller , while others reported a completely flawless experience. What caused the problem, and why it applied only for a few have so far been unknown, but now Nintendo has solved the mystery.

In a statement to including Polygon telling Nintendo that the problem is due to a factory defect. According to the company, it is not a question of problems with the controller’s design, as some have suggested , but an unexpected variation that appeared early in the production phase.

Nintendo assures that the problems only apply to a small number of consoles and that factory error now been corrected:

– The number of requests for repair or replacement for Nintendo Switch, including for Joy-Con controllers, is on par with other consoles Nintendo has launched earlier confirmed the developer facing website BGR .

– Going forward, this will not be a problem, as production variability has been taken care of and corrected at the factory level.

In connection with the investigation of the problem, Nintendo has come up with a simple solution for problem control. Exactly what is being done, the company has not yet confirmed, but according to the website CNET , it may be something as simple as a little foam.

CNET journalist Sean Hollister sent his troublesome Joy-Con to repair, and then it came back, he noticed a small skumbit placed on the wireless antenna, which had not been there earlier. According Hollister it is possibly a special type of foam, which protects against electromagnetic interference.

Nintendo recommends that customers not attempt to fix the problem yourself, when the disorders may also have other causes. Instead, anyone who is experiencing problems please contact Nintendo customer support, to find out whether it is necessary to repair.

We have contacted Bergsala – Nintendo’s distributor in Norway – to ask what is being done for Norwegian customers experiencing Joy Con problems. We update the matter as soon as we hear anything.
