Radio War Nerd EP 460 — "Civil War" + World of Wars, feat. Thierry Jutel

by mail@yashalevine.com (Gary Brecher)
Tom Roche

RWN 460 begins as usual with some bant (mostly Ames on a recent battle reenactment), then moves onto 2 main parts:

1. reviewing the 2024 Alex Garland movie 'Civil War' with Dolan former colleague Thierry Jutel (now @ Victoria U Wellington). Spoiler: it's a shitlib dystopia, but the mechanics are competently executed.
2. world of wars, including (following in ~order of presentation):
* Sudan RSF-SAF civil war, esp
***** UAE-RSF alliance as evil+evil
***** SAF food blockade as yet more evil
* Zionist wars, esp
***** attack on Druze in Israel-occupied Golan
***** Netanyahu in DC
* Venezuela election as ongoing color revolution
* NATO proxy war in Ukraine (aka RUW), esp
***** Nazi-on-Nazi assassination of Irina Farion

Radio War Nerd EP 461 — World of Wars: Kursk-2024, Israeli Assassinations, Nigeria's Polish pro-Russian FlagBots

by mail@yashalevine.com (Gary Brecher)
Tom Roche

episode#=461 (recorded 20240808) is not GOAT RWN, but definitely a good-enough world-of-wars survey, including (following only roughly in order of presentation, since Ames+Dolan jump around more than usually in this ep)

* non/responses to Zionist assassinations
* NATO proxy war in Ukraine (aka RUW), including
***** (mostly) the AFU Kursk offensive
********* AFU assault on Sudzha as part of EU's continuing economic suicide by (lack of) methane (aka 'natural gas')
***** AFU Donbas fade, as moving resources to Sumy-Kursk predictably eases AFRF path elsewhere
* J.D. Vance stupidity, esp Chuck Johnson leaks
* Israel-Iran-Hezbollah
* F-16 pro and con: air-defense utility, but only when they work, which they often don't, due to fragility/high-maintenance
* UK white riots
* RUW in Mali and Nigeria

Tom Roche

EXCELLENT, funny

We’re joined by Eyup Lovely to look at the absolute shambles of the U.K. under the Keir Starmer ministry. Starting with this week’s nation-wide race riots egged on by years of anti-immigration sentiment espoused by both Labor and the Tories, we also take a deep dive into Keir himself, his career, his background, and some of the more grotesque media toadies that puff him up.

8/6/24: Kamala Picks Tim Walz For VP, US Troops Injured In Iran-Linked Attack, Google Ruled Monopoly, UK Riots, RFK Bear In Central Park, Israeli UNRWA Op Falls Apart

Tom Roche

consistently EXCELLENT Grim+Enjeti BP, /much/ better than recent BPs. The 1st segment, on Kamala picking Tim Walz for VP, predictably runs long (IMHO, BP is /waaay/ overfocused on US political windowdressing), but the following-to-end-of-ep segments

2. global Zionism's increasingly-global kinetic war
3. Big Tech monopolies in US political economy esp US et al v. Google (decided--at least, in US District Court--5 Aug 2024)
4. UK riots vs {diversity, speech policing, immigration, Islam}
5. the {truly bizarre, very weird} RFK Jr-dead bear-Central Park story
6. global Zionism's hasbara war failing, esp its UNRWA op

were all excellent listens, well worth your time.

Ryan and Saagar discuss Kamala Picks Tim Walz for VP, US troops injured in Iran linked attack, Google ruled to be illegal monopoly, UK riots over immigration tensions, RFK admits he left dead bear in Central Park, Israeli media UNRWA op falls apart.

8/7/24: Morning Joe Weeps Over Walz, Trump Loses It On Kamala VP, Cenk Debates Pro-Trump Lawyer, AIPAC Defeats Cori Bush, Elon Says UK Civil War Imminent

Tom Roche

subpar CounterPoints, mostly because RG+EJ (and, for too long, guests Cenk Uygur and Will Chamberlain) spend the 1st 98 min (including ads--this is the free feed, but still, IDoNotHeartRadioWithThisGoddamnManyAds) of this 130-min episode on the US-politics implications of Kamala choosing Walz for VP ... i.e., they (mis)spend 75% (!) of the ep on something (importance of VP picks to US presidential campaigns) that /they themselves admit/, empirically, has ~0 effect. The final 2 segments (on the Cori Bush vs AIPAC-Bell primary in St Louis, and UK anti-{immigrant, Islamic} violence (and Musk-ian links) are OK, but certainly don't make up for the preceding 4 (felt like 9) segments.

Ryan and Emily discuss Morning Joe melts down over Walz pick, MSNBC savages Kamala VP pick benefits, Trump says Walz will cause hell on earth, Cenk debate pro-Trump lawyer on 2024, AIPAC unseats Cori Bush, Elon says UK riots are sign of civil war.

855 - Take Me Out To The Ballgame feat. Séamus Malekafzali (8/1/24)

Tom Roche

Felix+Will+guest VERY EXCELLENT

We’re joined by Beirut bureau chief Séamus Malekafzali to look at another eventful and disturbing week of events in Israel and its neighboring countries. Starting with yesterday’s assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh - potentially by remote bomb planted months ago in his Tehran residence - we discuss Iranian intelligence failures, Israel’s intentional sabotage of the peace negotiating process, western reporting on the Israeli rape riots, policies of pure revenge, sexual assault as imperialist ideology, and the ever-looming chance regional war. Then…when will we be able to finally find some peace from all these killings we’re doing so we can enjoy a dang game of baseball?

856 - Bear Market feat. Jeff Stein (8/5/24)

Tom Roche

Felix+Will+guest VERY EXCELLENT, surprisingly funny

The Washington Post’s Jeff Stein stops by to discuss his extensive new piece investigating the ever-ballooning U.S. international sanctions regime. Despite Biden recently bragging he’s leaving office with the U.S. not involved in any foreign conflicts, the U.S. now has sanctions in place in over a third of all nations around the world, including more than 60% of “developing” nations. Jeff walks us through this increasingly central policy of worldwide economic coercion, how it shapes American imperial aims, and some intended & unintended consequences of the exponential expansion of sanctions in the 21st century. Then, we take a quick look at the state of the Veepstakes, Josh Shapiro’s whole deal, and of course, RFK Jr. and the road-kill bear.

Do Gooders

Tom Roche

grimly-amusing dysfunctional-workplace comedy

Garrett Millerick’s Do Gooders is a new ensemble sitcom that takes us behind the charity curtain and mines the numerous frustrations that come with trying to ‘do good’ on an industrial scale. With Frank Skinner, Fay Ripley, Lisa McGrillis, Ahir Shah and Ania Magliano.

The series follows the exploits of the fundraising events team at a fictional mid-level charity, The Alzheimers Alliance. Fundraising for this kind of mid-table organisation comes with its own unique set of challenges, be it setting up eye catching events, courting celebrity endorsement or juggling the inter charity politics.

And while certainly not languishing on the lowest rungs of the charity league table, Alzheimers hasn’t got the dazzling sheen or the pulling power of a cancer charity, nor does it capture the public’s sympathies in the way lifeboats or guide dogs do.

If Cancer Research is Coca-Cola, Alzheimers Alliance is Lilt. A cracking drink, but they’ve got to work hard to remind people they exist - or face total extinction.

Episode One - The Team Player Clive has one day to prove to Harriett that he can be a team player, or risk losing his status as a manager. Lauren and Ken battle it out over the new hot desking arrangements and Gladys introduces the new hire Achi to the peculiarities of life at The Alzheimers Alliance.

Cast: Lauren – Ania Magliano Gladys – Lisa McGrillis Clive – Garrett Millerick Harriett – Fay Ripley Achi – Ahir Shah Ken – Frank Skinner

2. ... problems with current Russian SM early-warning systems relative to US SMEWS, which incentivize RF to launch on warning

Catherine Bohart: TL;DR - 1. We Need To Talk About Kamala

Tom Roche

skippable, certainly after the 1st of 4 (or 5) segments:

1. host Bohart tells some jokes--not bad, but not great--mostly about US politics
2. fairly tedious interview with Katy Balls (@ The Spectator) on US politics
3. guest Sunil Patel does /his/ standup, which, like Bohart's is right on the borderline between skip! and amusing
4. /quite/ tedious interview with Sarah Churchwell (@ U London) on US politics
5. {brief outro, not quite a segment} from Bohart

net: you've probably got better ways to spend this half-hour

Columns. Analysis. The Guardian's Long Read. Who has time? Catherine Bohart, that's who, and she's going beyond the headlines to give you the lowdown on one of the biggest stories this week, alongside a guest journalist and roving correspondent Sunil Patel.

This week: Biden steps down, Kamala steps up, but what's going to happen next? Puzzled by US politics? We've got you babes.

Katy Balls, political editor of The Spectator, and US politics junkie, is our guide through it all; and Professor Sarah Churchwell joins to look deeper into how a younger candidate might affect the vote.

Meanwhile, in the TL;DR Sidebar, comedian Sunil Patel throws his hat in the ring to be the Vice Presidential nominee. For both Trump and Harris.

US media is hiding THIS about Venezuela’s elections – w/ Anya Parampil

by Katie Halper
Tom Roche

EXCELLENT though truncated

Subscribe for the full episode at the bottom of the page. Watch a free preview here:

When the US government has been running a decades-long regime-change operation, sabotaging another country with shadow governments and crippling sanctions, it’s hard to take anything it says about the country’s leaders at face value. Which is why, as Venezuela held elections this week and corporate media shouted reports of stolen elections, dictatorship, and civil war, you might find yourself asking:

Is any of this actually true?

Journalist Anya Parampil, author of the new book Corporate Coup: Venezuela and the End of US Empire, documents the bipartisan efforts of the last four US presidents to destroy Venezuela’s economy enough to remove its leaders from power and instate a US-backed puppet as head of state.

“You can't deny,” she says, “what was an orchestrated demolition of the Venezuelan economy on behalf of foreign powers.” And while we hear repeatedly from corporate media that the problems come from within Venezuela, whether it’s dictatorship, gangs, or corruption, Anya points out a basic truth:

“Coming at it from the point of an American, I'm not going to intervene in your country at all, and beyond that all I know is that their lives would be better if the sanctions were lifted.”

She explains why, even after the constant meddling of neocons like John Bolton and Gargamel-doppelganger Elliot Abrams, the piracy of the country’s oil, and the destruction of countless people’s lives with harsh sanctions, the US has still been unsuccessful in regime change.

Subscribe to hear the full interview with Anya Parampil where she details how each US president from Bush to Biden made efforts to derail Venezuela’s economy, how these efforts have actually created the immigration problems they love to complain about, and Anya’s epic 2019 interview with Tucker Carlson which led to a call from then-President Trump.

7/30/24: Kamala Vs Trump Panel, JD Vance ' Cat Ladies', White Dudes For Kamala Zoom Call, Biden SCOTUS Reforms, Shocking Secret Service Failure On Trump, Israelis Storm Torture Camp

Tom Roche

One of the worst BPs I can remember.

The 1st 3-ish (feels like more) segments are KB+SE with "allstar panel" of Ryan Girdusky (not bad as a guest, though I mostly dislike his politics) and Michael Starr Hopkins (who mostly just regurgitates the worst sorts of loathsome Obama/Hillary identity-vs-class CorpDem politics). Skip these all, you have better sinks for your attention/time.

The 4th (SCOTUS reform) and 5th (Trump assassination-attempt investigation) segments aren't actually /bad/ like the preceding, but are both just replacement-level BP.

Basically the only segment worth listening is the final/6th (79:02-98:33 in the audio), in which liberal Zionist sexpest [Shaiel Ben-Ephraim](http://web.archive.org/web/20240729181013/https://dailybruin.com/2020/08/03/postdoctoral-fellow-left-ucla-following-tweeted-allegations-of-sexual-harassment) realizes Israel does torture and warcrimes, but remains Zionist anyway, because, ya know, free real estate. It's disgusting, but informative to hear said out loud what probably most (e.g.) CNN, NPR, and NYT (et lots al) "content creators" actually think.

Krystal and Saagar discuss JD admits Kamala replacement 'sucker punch', JD Vance 'Childless Cat Ladies', White Dudes for Kamala Zoom call, Biden proposes SCOTUS reforms, secret service aware of Trump shooter earlier than previously thought, Israelis storm torture camp.

Honduras, 15 Years After the Coup: An Interview With Ousted President Manuel Zelaya

Tom Roche

VERY EXCELLENT. Note that the 80+ minutes of this episode is composed of ~3 parts, following not in order:

0. ads before, after, and in middle of content
1. ~40 min (after 42:03 in audio, before closing ads) is an interview (in Spanish, uninterpreted) by José Olivares (formerly @ Intercept, now moved to DSN='Drop Site News') of former President of Honduras Manuel Zelaya (2006-2009) on political economy and empire in Honduras, US, Latin America, and beyond, and especially on
* the 2009 US (Obama-Hillary) coup that ousted him
* the narcoregime that ruled Honduras 2009-2022 with support from the Obama and Trump regimes
* Honduras during and after the 2022 election of his wife Xiomara Castro
2. ~40 min (0:33-42:03) interview (in English, uninterpreted) by Ryan Grim (also {formerly @ Intercept, now moved to DSN}) of José Olivares regarding Olivares' interview of Zelaya

On June 28, 2009, democratically elected Honduran President Manuel Zelaya was ousted by a military coup. In response to Zelaya's push for a poll to gauge public interest in constitutional changes, the Honduran Supreme Court ordered the military to arrest him. He was then sent to Costa Rica in his pajamas.

The coup led to nearly 13 years of right-wing rule, marked by collusion with drug trafficking organizations, widespread privatization, violence, repression, and a significant migrant exodus. During this period, the Honduran left organized a strong resistance movement. In 2022, Xiomara Castro, Zelaya’s wife and a leader of the anti-coup resistance, was elected president, signaling a major shift in the country's history.

In this episode of Deconstructed, Zelaya sits down for an exclusive interview with journalist José Olivares to discuss the 15th anniversary of the coup, the ensuing resistance movement, the right-wing and drug trafficking organizations' control, and the U.S. government's role and influence. Host Ryan Grim and Olivares delve into Zelaya's interview, recent developments in Honduran history, and present the full Spanish-language interview with Zelaya.

Deconstructed is a production of Drop Site News. This program was brought to you by a grant from The Intercept.

To read the full English-language transcript of Zelaya's interview, visit DropSiteNews.com or TheIntercept.com.
