Today’s Amazing And Revolting Foods: Ravioli Pizza And Deep Fried Doritos Locos Taco

by Laura Northrup

(Dude Foods)

One thing that we love here at Consumerist is bringing you the latest in disgusting/amazing food news, and we include fast food in that statement. Two new and exciting food products caught our attention today, one served in a restaurant and the other is a do-it-yourself project from an adventurous blogger. Both will make your arteries clench when you read about them, so that’s good. These items are the ravioli-topped pizza and the deep-fried beer-and-bacon-battered Doritos Loco Taco.

Ravioli pizza is exactly what it sounds like: whole ravioli, filled with ricotta cheese, as a pizza topping. I once tried ziti as a pizza topping, which is horrible and wrong and you should never try, but ravioli is not 100% starch, so it has some promise as a pizza topping. How was it? Close to inedible.

(Slice)

(Slice)

Pasta on pizza is something I’ve seen in a few places, even relatively successfully in some, but for me, in order for it to work, the pasta has to crisp up and brown a bit—it’s a textural effect more than anything. Soft ravioli on top of soft crust doesn’t add anything to a slice but bulk. To be fair, it seems like bulk is really what Rosa’s is after.

Well, this is America. So we’ll skip the ravioli pizza. What if it’s spiciness and grease you’re after instead? The improved-upon taco is a creation of Nick over at Dude Foods, who also brought us the Bacon Weave Double Cheeseburger.

(Dude Foods)

(Dude Foods)

The secret to the taco, if you’re wondering, is to remove all of the filling from the taco, batter and fry just the shell, and then put the filling back in. Is it worth it? Nick writes:

Overall it was even better than the original Deep Fried Doritos that I made. I mean, Beer and Bacon Battered Deep Fried Doritos are great and all, but using those same ingredients and turning them into a taco just takes it to a whole new level.

Next up, he might wrap a Doritos Loco Taco in bacon.

There are many more possible phases of this food item. For example, Frito-Lay could come out with a deep-fried Doritos Loco Taco Doritos flavor. Then Taco Bell could use the deep-fried Doritos Loco Taco Dorito flavor to make a taco shell for another iteration of Doritos Loco Tacos. Then someone could deep-fry the Deep-Fried Doritos Loco Taco Doritos Loco Tacos. With bacon.

While we’re at it, can I deep-fry the ravioli pizza, too?

Jesse Eisenberg ‘Humiliated’ Reporter Romina Puga During Interview [Video]

by Tayla Holman

Jesse Eisenberg Romina Puga

Now You See Me star Jesse Eisenberg is being labeled a “jerk” after a very uncomfortable, and kind of rude, interview with Univision reporter Romina Puga.

The awkwardness starts almost immediately, when Puga says, “So Freeman plays a magic debunker.” Eisenberg interrupts her with, “Freeman? Who are you? What are you, on a baseball team with him?”

Puga then goes on to say she’s going to perform a trick, and Eisenberg has to reveal the secret. She pretends to be removing part of her index finger, but Eisenberg notes that “the thumbs don’t look like the end of a finger.” He then asks her what she has written on her hand and she says nothing, but he continues to prod her and ask if she’s “secretly hiding questions.”

Eisenberg asks Puga if she’s heard of Carrot Top, and she says, “Yeah, horrible.” He responds, “Well, you’re like the Carrot Top of interviewers.” Puga says she’s “going to go cry now” and Eisenberg says to wait until after the interview because then he’ll look responsible, which Puga says he is.

Visibly flustered, Puga asks Eisenberg to show her a magic trick so they can wrap the interview up, and he tells her, “You’re on my time.”

Both Eisenberg and Puga have been criticized for the interview. Some said that it was Puga’s fault for not being prepared and not playing along with Eisenberg, but others felt the 29-year-old actor was being rude and mean. Some wondered if the interview was all a joke, a la Zach Galifianakis’ “Between Two Ferns,” but it appears that Puga was actually very bothered by the whole ordeal.

“So, I was just humiliated by Jesse Eisenberg,” she wrote on Univision’s TumblrYou know, the actor who played Mark Zuckerberg in the Social Network.

Apparently, things got worse for Puga after the interview ended. ”When the five minute ‘interview’ (more like self-esteem butchering) were finally over I went behind a curtain to wait for the memory cards from the interview,” Puga wrote.

She continued:

“I peaked [sic] around the curtain to ask Jesse about his neighborhood in New York (he lives a few blocks from where I used to live) and he immediately says, ‘You’re still here?’

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I finally walked away.”

You can watch Romina Puga’s interview with Jesse Eisenberg below. Do you think he was being a jerk, or should Puga have played along?

Google’s Android Apps Are Overtaking Apple By 500 Million Monthly Downloads

by Matt Warman

android appleGoogle’s Android will become the most popular app platform in the world within months, claim reports that will deal a blow to Apple.

Although Apple recently celebrated 50 billion app downloads, users of Google ’s Android platform are currently downloading 500 million more apps per month.

Driven by new devices from Samsung, Google’s app store, called Play, has surged ahead, despite a continued lack of top-end applications and consumers who still spend lower amounts. There are now 900 million Android devices in the market compared to 600 million Apple products.

Android, however, has recently won over growing number of app developers, with even the BBC moving to a new approach that attempts to deliver its popular apps simultaneously on both platforms. Although few apps launch first on Android, a growing number of the most popular are now available on both and the gap between launches is narrowing. Boradcaster Sky has developed applications specifically targetting the most popular mobile phone models.

Apple says that more than 850,000 titles are available at its App Store, while Google recently said that 48 billion apps in total had been downloaded from Play. Approximately 2 billion iOS apps are downloaded each months, compared with 2.5billion from Play.

Continuing at current rates, Google is expected to be in the lead by October.

Horace Dediu, an analyst at Asymco, noted however that “the total downloads/install base are currently 83 apps per iOS device sold and 53 apps per Android device activation.”

He added that “The sheer weight of Android units will generate more downloads but on a per device basis the iOS devices do seem to consume more apps and the gap is not narrowing. What would be valuable would be the revenue per app on Play (the figure for iOS is about $0.23). That, as far as I know, remains unknown.”

Provider of app analytics tools Distimo, however, told the FT that Google Play’s “share of daily revenues from the main app stores has increased ‘significantly’ in the past six months”.

3D Printing Company Wants To Let You Print Objects Just By Thinking About Them

by Kyle Russell

3d printer

There's a company in Chile that wants to let you bring your thoughts into the physical realm.

According to a post on Discovery News, Thinker Thing is working on a combination of software and hardware that will let users sculpt objects using thought alone.

The technology works by presenting basic shapes on screen that slowly morph. A headset that measures electric signals in the brain can tell when the user approves of a change. Over time, the model transforms into the object that that the user has in his or her mind.

To bring the object into reality, the software then sends the 3D model to a MakerBot 3D printer, which assembles it by stacking layers of material into nearly any shape that can fit within its working space.

To demonstrate its technology, Thinker Thing has created an art exhibit called “The Fantastical Mind Creatures of Chile," in which children create miniature sculptures using the headset.

State of Decay shambling onto Xbox 360 tomorrow

by Alice O'Connor
D G

This needs to be online multiplayer, GTA with zombies would be awesome

Open-world zombie survive 'em up State of Decay will debut on Xbox 360 this Wednesday, developer Undead Labs has announced at short notice. It'll cost 1600 Microsoft Points ($15) on Xbox Live Arcade but, alas, there's still no word on when the PC version will arrive.

State of Decay will have you roaming around a sandbox world, making friends, scavenging supplies, securing safehouses, and destroying the brains of reanimated corpses. While this is a single-player affair, Undead Labs plans to make a full-on zombies sandbox MMORPG too.

The dev added on Twitter that SoD's PC version is still "in progress" but has "no date yet."

This $900,000 Kickstarter Aims To Build Sensory Suits For Gamers [Video]

by Nicole Wakelin

kick

The most feedback a gamer gets right now is a vibrating controller, but the guys at ARAIG (As Real As It Gets) hope to change that with their new multi-sensory feedback suit. They’ve launched a kickstarter with a lofty $900,000 goal that will allow them to fully develop their product with the first units shipping in December of 2014.

The suit is made of hardware decoder, undersuit and exoskeleton layers that will provide feedback based on what’s happening to a player in-game. Whether you’ve been shot or blown through a wall the suit will let you feel what’s happening on the screen. It’s also got built in surround sound speakers to complete the experience.

See the kickstarter video after the break…

You can help fund the kickstarter now, with pledges of $325 and up putting you first in line to get one of these amazing suits.

3D Printed Version of Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures Cover

People are 3D printing everything right now. They’re working on food, jewelryarchitecture, cars, clothing, and even guns (yikes). But who cares about that stuff when you can 3D print your own cover of Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures?

Interaction Design Professor at Hof University Michael Zöllner has created his own 3D Printed Joy Division cover, but the best part is that he’s posted the file for download in MakerBot’s Thingiverse so that you can make your very own copy, too.

Tim Tebow Gets Job Offer From Glenn Beck

by Nathan Francis

Tim Tebow Gets Job Offer From Glenn Beck

Tim Tebow might be done in the NFL, but the wayward quarterback could have a job with Glenn Beck soon.

On his radio show, Beck and his co-hosts got into a discussion about Robert Griffin III’s new home in Northern Virginia. As the discussion progressed, they somehow end up talking about Tim Tebow and how he’ s still out of work.

“You can be a good guy — look at Tebow. You can be a good guy, clean life, and be on the wrong side politically, and you’re doomed,” Beck said. “Hopefully when he no longer has a job and he’s out of football, we’ll have enough money to hire him at this network to do sports. ”

Beck’s co-hosts laughed, but Glenn seemed to be serious about hiring Tim Tebow.

“Who else would hire him to do even sports? ESPN probably wouldn’t hire him,” Beck said. “Nobody’s going to hire him, he’s too controversial. And think of that. No one’s going to hire him because he’s religious? It’s unbelievable.”

After being cut by the New York Jets, Tebow has faced rumors that his NFL career is coming to an end. No team seems interested in signing the unrestricted free agent, leading some people to believe that Tebow has been blackballed from the league due to the media circus that follows him.David Fleming of ESPN The Magazine says many in Tim Tebow’s camp are “privately admitting that his NFL run is probably over.”

But Tim Tebow denies that he’s giving up on the league. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tracked down his dad, Bob Tebow, who said Tim remains committed to playing in the NFL.

Several NFL insiders are saying that if Tim Tebow does remain in the NFL, it will not be as a quarterback.

“He’s not a quarterback,” said one NFC scour. “When you look at his run two years ago, when you watch the tape and break it down, he wasn’t really doing anything that impressive. He’s a tough guy, a great leader, a great person. But he isn’t a good enough quarterback to have all the distractions that come with him.”

Of course, Tim Tebow could always just go to work for Glenn Beck.
