Tears of joy and tears of sadness look different under the microscope

by Casey Chan on Sploid, shared by Casey Chan to Gizmodo

Tears of joy and tears of sadness look different under the microscope

We can cry because we're happy. We can cry because we're sad. We can cry because we're cutting onions. We can cry just because we need to cry. They're all completely different emotions... but are they different tears? Photographer Rose-Lynn Fisher wanted to find out in her series The Topography of Tears. She put dried tears from all different kinds of situations under the microscope to see what's different between them all.

The OLEDs of the Future Could Be Inkjet Printed

by Jamie Condliffe

The OLEDs of the Future Could Be Inkjet Printed

In the future we should hope for all of our displays to be OLED; it's thin, light, deep with color, and energy efficient to boot. It's also incredibly expensive. That could soon change, though, thanks to a jumped-up inkjet printer.

Look At The Anti-Google T-Shirts And Coffee Mugs Microsoft Just Started Selling

by Aaron Taube

After saying earlier this year that it wouldn't give up its anti-Google advertising campaign, Microsoft is upping the ante by selling "Scroogled" t-shirts, hats, and coffee mugs this holiday season.

Like the rest of the campaign, created by former Hillary Clinton operative Mark Penn, the eight items for sale in Microsoft's online store target Google for what Microsoft feels is its unfair invasion of user privacy in the pursuit of profits.

Here's some of what Microsoft is selling:

 The Scroogled Mug

The 'I'm Watching You' T-Shirt

The 'Word Cloud' T-Shirt

A closer look at the word cloud:

In the past, Microsoft has also targeted Google for allowing merchants to pay for their products to have a better chance of showing up in Google Shopping search results.

Valve explains how its in-home streaming will work

by Joshua Derocher

On the Steam In-Home Streaming group, Valve shared a few pages of details on how its streaming setup will work. They started off by explaining what streaming is, and why you would want to use it:

"Any two computers in a home can be used to stream a gameplay session and this can enable playing games on systems that would not traditionally be able to run those games. For example, a Windows only game could be streamed from a Windows PC to a Steam Machine running Linux in the living room. A graphically intensive game could be streamed from a beefy gaming rig in the office to your low powered laptop that you are using in bed. You could even start a game on one computer and move to a more comfortable location and continue playing it there."

Video: Healthcare.gov website crashes during Sebelius PR event … again

by Ed Morrissey

This shit is pathetic. Handing over a billion $ the monkey computer club to design something like this.

“That happens every day."

Remember when this happened in Pittsburgh in the second week of the ObamaCare rollout? At least this time, Kathleen Sebelius signed up more people on her visit yesterday to South Florida than she did in Pennsylvania. A whopping two people managed to get all the way through the failing website to enroll in insurance during […]

Blockbuster Stores Are Having A Wacky Nationwide Liquidation Sale

by Laura Northrup
open_sign

Ironic.

If you’ve always dreamed of owning a giant gumball machine, a movie ticket-shaped “OPEN” sign, or hundreds of empty DVD cases, you’re in luck. While it’s sad that Blockbuster Video locations are finally shutting down, this is a boon to anyone who wants to pay strange prices for the equipment to open their own DVD rental store.

Our semi-estranged siblings over at Gizmodo rounded up some amusing store fixtures and rental videos that are part of the liquidation sale. One of our favorites has to be the Dish Network kiosk available for only $650 in Katy, Texas. Okay, it has a television and PlayStation 3, but they’re missing key information: can you go into business selling Dish Network service on your own or not?

An Xbox One Plugged Into Itself Looks Like Art

by Steve Marinconz on Kotaku, shared by Brian Barrett to Gizmodo

An Xbox One Plugged Into Itself Looks Like Art

We've seen an Xbox One playing through another Xbox One. And an Xbox 360 through an Xbox One through an Xbox One. Also a Wii U through an Xbox One and, sure, a PS4 through an Xbox One. But what if you plug one Xbox One into itself? Because it's certainly possible. And the results are kind of beautiful.
