Obama Declares War On "Extremism" – Are You An "Extremist"?

by Tyler Durden
D G

WTF man

Submitted by Michael Snyder via The Economic Collapse blog,

Do you know what an “extremist” is?  In the wake of the horrible terror attacks on the offices of Charlie Hebdo in France, Barack Obama is speaking very boldly about the need to win the war against “extremists”, and he has announced plans to host a major global summit on “extremism” next month.  And on the surface that sounds great.  But precisely how are we supposed to determine whether someone is an “extremist” or not?  What criteria should we use?

As you will see below, your definition of an “extremist” may be far, far different from the definition that Barack Obama is using.  When you do a Google search, you will find that an “extremist” is defined as “a person who holds extreme or fanatical political or religious views, especially one who resorts to or advocates extreme action.”  According to Wikipedia, “extremism” is “an ideology (particularly in politics or religion), considered to be far outside the mainstream attitudes of a society or to violate common moral standards.  Extremism can take many forms, including political, religious and economic.”  Please notice that neither of those definitions uses the word violence.  In this day and age, you can be considered an “extremist” simply based on what you believe, and as you will see later in this article there are now tens of millions of Americans that are considered to be “extremists” and “potential terrorists” according to official U.S. government documents.

When you use the word “extremist”, you may have in your mind a picture of ISIS fighters or the terrorists from the Charlie Hebdo massacre.

But for elitists such as Barack Obama, the word “extremist” has a much broader meaning.  In recent years, it has become a code word for those that do not have an “enlightened” view of the world.  If your views on politics, religion or social issues are extremely different from the liberal, progressive views of “the mainstream” (as defined by the mainstream media and by “mainstream” politicians such as Barack Obama), then they consider you to be an extremist.

Early in the presidency of George W. Bush, we were told that Islamic terrorists were the enemy.  And so most of the country got behind the idea of the War on Terrorism.  But over the years that has morphed into a War on Extremism.  In fact, the Obama administration has gone so far as to remove almost all references to Islam from government terror training materials

Deputy U.S. Attorney General James Cole confirmed on Wednesday that the Obama administration was pulling back all training materials used for the law enforcement and national security communities, in order to eliminate all references to Islam that some Muslim groups have claimed are offensive.

“I recently directed all components of the Department of Justice to re-evaluate their training efforts in a range of areas, from community outreach to national security,” Cole told a panel at the George Washington University law school.

Now, much of the focus in law enforcement training materials is on “domestic extremists”.  We are being told that “domestic extremism” is just as great a threat to our national security as terror groups overseas are.

But exactly who are these “domestic extremists”?

Well, the truth is that you may be one of them.

I want to share with you a list that I have shared in a couple of previous articles.  It is a list of 72 types of Americans that are considered to be “extremists” or “potential terrorists” in official U.S. government documents.  This list will really give you a good idea of what Barack Obama means when he uses the word “extremist”.  Each of these 72 items is linked, so if you would like to go see the original source document for yourself, just click on the link.  As you can see, this list potentially includes most of the country…

70. Those that display the Gadsden Flag (“Don’t Tread On Me”)

71. Those that believe in “end times” prophecies

72. Evangelical Christians

Do you fit into any of those categories?

Personally, I fit into a couple dozen of them.

That is why alarm bells should go off whenever Barack Obama speaks of the need to crack down on “extremism”.

If Barack Obama wants to denounce Islamic terror, he should do so.  But because of his extreme political correctness, he goes out of his way to avoid any connection between Islam and terror.  Instead, he speaks of the need to recognize “Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings” and he insists that “the future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”

Meanwhile, our liberties and freedoms are being eroded a little bit more with each passing day.  In the name of fighting “terrorism” or “extremism”, our government is constructing a Big Brother police state control grid all around us.  I like the way that Ron Paul described what is happening to us just the other day

If Americans were honest with themselves they would acknowledge that the Republic is no more. We now live in a police state. If we do not recognize and resist this development, freedom and prosperity for all Americans will continue to deteriorate. All liberties in America today are under siege.

It didn’t happen overnight. It took many years of neglect for our liberties to be given away so casually for a promise of security from the politicians. The tragic part is that the more security was promised — physical and economic — the less liberty was protected.

With cradle-to-grave welfare protecting all citizens from any mistakes and a perpetual global war on terrorism, which a majority of Americans were convinced was absolutely necessary for our survival, our security and prosperity has been sacrificed.

It was all based on lies and ignorance. Many came to believe that their best interests were served by giving up a little freedom now and then to gain a better life.

The trap was set. At the beginning of a cycle that systematically undermines liberty with delusions of easy prosperity, the change may actually seem to be beneficial to a few. But to me that’s like excusing embezzlement as a road to leisure and wealth — eventually payment and punishment always come due. One cannot escape the fact that a society’s wealth cannot be sustained or increased without work and productive effort. Yes, some criminal elements can benefit for a while, but reality always sets in.

Reality is now setting in for America and for that matter for most of the world. The piper will get his due even if “the children” have to suffer. The deception of promising “success” has lasted for quite a while. It was accomplished by ever-increasing taxes, deficits, borrowing, and printing press money. In the meantime the policing powers of the federal government were systematically and significantly expanded. No one cared much, as there seemed to be enough “gravy” for the rich, the poor, the politicians, and the bureaucrats.

The country that our forefathers founded is dying.

Now, individuals and organizations that attempt to restore the values that our founders once believed in so strongly are regarded as dangerous “extremists” that need to be watched carefully.

Sadly, most Americans don’t even realize what is happening to this nation.  As long as they are fed a constant diet of mindless entertainment, most Americans are perfectly content to let “the experts” do their thinking for them.

We are steamrolling toward oblivion, and most of the country is dead asleep.

So is there any hope for us?

For The Love Of Hot Sauce: How Do We End Up Liking Flavors We Hate At First?

by Mary Beth Quirk

Your friend’s gusto for sloshing hot sauce over anything and everything eats might be gross to you — and so painful to the mouth, am I right? — but then again, maybe your predilection for shoveling horseradish into your Bloody Mary is distasteful to him. Why do some people love what is loathed by others, and how come that can change over a person’s lifetime?

NPR’s The Salt blog delved into those questions, of why consuming hot and spicy chilies is totally normal for some people, despite the burning sensation that could turn people off.

The Salt talked to cultural psychologist Paul Rozin of the University of Pennsylvania who has examined peoples’ attitudes toward food. Why can some people tolerate spice and others can’t? It’s kind of a learning process, he says.

For example, when explorers first brought Mexican’ chili peppers back to the Old World, it tasted bad because people hadn’t eaten it before. But then somehow it becomes a major flavoring in parts of the world like West Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia.

Rozin points out how, in a Mexican village where everyone eats the same things, that kids started liking chili as early as four or five, simply because it was on everything they ate. Even the dogs and pigs who ate the town’s garbage preferred to eat food without chili on it, he said.

“I thought that was a really interesting finding,” he told The Salt. “And I think that this is a very special human characteristic — the ability to overcome an innate aversion and make it into a pleasure.”

That happens after you’ve been exposed to it enough, Rozin thinks.

“But normally you would never be exposed [to hot chilies] more than once,” he says. “And the reason you’re exposed to it a lot is because that’s what the family’s serving so you just eat it. The experience of eating it a lot somehow converts what was an aversion to a preference.”

Other examples of this pop up in the list of things you might’ve hated or disliked as a kid, but now consume with relish as an adult: Coffee, beer, horseradish and other strong or bitter flavors, or even temperatures, like an aversion to very cold liquids or foods as a kid or European.

“It’s like getting to like smoking — when you first smoke it’s terrible,” Rozin explains. “But you [may] keep going because there’s social pressure. And that pressure gives you enough experience … and somehow with that experience it usually inverts.”

Catching up with Stern Pinball on its new SPIKE system and Wrestlemania Limited Edition

by Megan Geuss
Wrestlemania Pro Edition at CES.

When we were in Las Vegas last week, we unexpectedly ran into some representatives from Stern Pinball, who said the company would be announcing a brand new game (Wrestlemania) that had been built on a brand new system (SPIKE). We took some quick pictures of the game and even hurriedly played it, but we caught up with Stern Director of Marketing Jody Dankberg this week to get a little more information.

For background on the game itself, we'll defer to Stern's website: “Wrestlemania calls players into the ring as WWE superstars embarking on a quest to become the WWE worldwide heavyweight champion. Players train their wrestlers and then compete in a series of matches leading them on the road to Wrestlemania.” Players can also choose from ten licensed WWE songs as their introduction music, and long time wrestling commentators Jerry “the King” Lawlor and Michael Cole have done custom voiceovers. As a bonus, Dankberg told Ars on Tuesday, WWE CEO Vince McMahon also recorded the introduction for the game at the very beginning.

Wrestlemania is also the illustrious pin maker's first game using its new modular SPIKE system. Ars asked Dankberg to explain the difference between the new SPIKE system and the SAM system, and he said that SPIKE primarily aims to reduce cost and increase convenience for new game owners.

7 things you just like, might not know about 'The Big Lebowski,' man

These facts really tie the room together.

In a new episode of "Things You Didn't Know," CineFix tackles The Big Lebowski, the Coen brother's cult classic about a dude, his PTSD-inflicted best friend and white Russians.

Between counting down how many times the script features the F-word to explaining the real world inspirations for characters like Walter and the dude, this video will probably teach you a few things about the hysterically absurd comedy.

Desktop Termites: Cool Habitat Displays Wood-Eating Bugs

by delana
[ Filed under Science & in the Earth & Nature category ]

termitat termite habitat

Humans have a tendency to think of termites as pests, but we seldom take into account the fact that there are thousands of species. Not all of them are the house-devouring little bugs home buyers are so terrified of finding. Termitat is an ant farm-like display that houses a slice of Douglas Fir and a colony of termites in a clear 1/4″ thick acrylic habitat.

termitat with microscope

Chris Poehlmann developed the Termitat after 25 years of designing exhibits for zoos, museums, and aquariums. He has been fascinated with the tiny world of termites since 1982 when he built his first termite habitat for a California natural history museum.

models of termitat

Poehlmann created the Termitat to share this fascination with the world. Termites have complex social systems and lead surprisingly fascinating lives – much like ants, even though they’re far less cute. Owners of the Termitat don’t have to worry about escapes and house munching; the species used in the display don’t eat houses or thrive in a home environment outside of their acrylic case.

Taking care of the termites is easy. Their food is already included, and that one slice of wood can last the 25-strong colony for up to three years. An injection of water every week keeps them happy and active. Although the termites aren’t of the dangerous persuasion, the Termitat can’t ship outside of the U.S. or to certain states. Starting at $125, the termite colony is considerably more expensive than a little plastic ant farm, but it’s got to be satisfying to watch that slice of wood being eaten away one day at a time.

There is no “free lunch” and there is no “free” community college either

by Nick Sorrentino
D G

People just don't quite understand that money does not appear out of thin air...unless you're the federal reserve.

"I mean it's free for some people. Other people are going to have to pay. But they don't pay enough anyway. Am I right?"

“I mean it’s free for some people. Other people are going to have to pay. But they don’t pay enough anyway. Am I right?”

When the president says that he wants the government to pay for everyone to go to 2 years of community college what he is really saying is that he wants you to pay for everyone to go to community college. There is no “free” college. There is no “free” anything. Everything has a cost and I have to pay for college for 3 kids of my own in the not so distant future already. I don’t need yet another bill just because the president wants to throw some gifts to folks who voted for him.
