China is where we often see crazy cheap smartphones, but the upcoming JiaYu F1 really is something special. See, this is a device running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean that is only going to cost $50 when it’s released in the near future.

Yes, you read that right. And yes, this price is for an unlocked unit – sans contract or long-term commitment. So you may be thinking that it’s incredibly low-end then. Well, it is. At least for this day and age. Yet only a few years ago, specs like the F1′s would have been considered the cream of the crop.

The JiaYu F1 has a 4-inch 480×800 touchscreen, a 5 MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, a VGA front camera, a 1.3 GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6572 processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, dual-SIM functionality, HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, an FM radio, and a 2,400 mAh battery.

It’s got a beefier battery than most midrangers today, and the low RAM really is the main pain point here. But at $50, we assume you’ll be able to live with it just fine.

There’s no word just yet on when it will be out in stores, and you shouldn’t expect it to ever make it to anywhere outside of China, but the JiaYu F1 is a great example of how far we’ve come, in terms of mobile device specs, in just a few short years.

Die Erwartungen an die Gigabyte Radeon R9 290X mit dem WindForce-3X-Kühler waren groß, das Testergebnis fiel in Bezug auf das Kühlsystem überraschend nüchtern aus. Gigabyte gab allerdings Entwarnung: die Grafikkarten, die in den Handel kommen, würden sich besser schlagen als die Pressemuster. Ein Nachtest der Verkaufsversion.

Extra performance is always welcome, whether that is CPU performance, memory performance, SSD performance or GPU performance.  It makes it a lot more worthwhile if the performance comes at a lower than expected cost.  This is what VisionTek are trying to do with their new R9 290 CryoVenom – this is a custom built liquid cooled card designed to be cheaper than a self-built liquid cooling solution.

On the front of it, the CryoVenom is just another GPU with a water block attached (users will have to supply their own water loop), however VisionTek are trying to cut out a lot of the hard work for the user.  The card will have the water block preinstalled (similar to the EVGA Hydro range), and will be factory tested for a suggested overclock.  The GPU will come out of the box at stock settings, but VisionTek will custom test each one and provide in the box a certificate with their 95% percentile overclock, allowing users to go straight in to Catalyst and set the numbers.

VisionTek are going to sell the CryoVenom for $550 with a one year warranty, which they compare to a DIY version which breaks down into the following cost scenario:

R9 290 card $400.00, Water block $140.00, Back plate $36.00
Assembly, Pressure Testing, and Overclocking Verification: estimated three hours at a value of $75.00
Total cost: $651.00
Warranty: None
Hassle Factor: High

This is fair enough – if you water cool your own cards then the warranty is gone and there is always a risk that something might break.  That being said, the CryoVenom is $150 more than a standard R9 290 card, although it is a quiet solution and has all the tools necessary for a good overclock as long as the user has a suitable water loop to pair it with.

The water block itself is designed to cover the GPU core, the memory and the VRMs, leaving nothing uncovered.  The copper base is nickel plated to prevent corrosion and precision cut acrylic is applied on top.  The rear back plate is anodized aluminum, providing passive VRM cooling.

The VisionTek R9 290 CryoVenom should be available today direct from their website at $550.

Rudy Huyn nevét már sokszor emlegettük a Windows Phone platform kapcsán, hisz az úriembernek köszönhető számos közösségi szolgáltatás (Snapchat, Instagram, Vine) kliens alkalmazása még mielőtt azokhoz a hivatalos változat érkezett volna a platformra. A 9gag nevű népszerű meme-gyűjtő oldal üzemeltetői még a mai napig nem adtak ki saját programot, így továbbra is csak az Android és iOS rendszerek élvezik eme előnyét, ám Huyn azonos nevű programja is igencsak magasra tette a lécet ezen a téren. A fejlesztő most új frissítést adott ki a programhoz, mely számos újítást hozott magával. Ilyenek többek közt az 5 új kategória bevezetése, melyek a feltöltött tartalmak címkézése alapján kerülnek megkülönböztetésre, illetve a vissza gomb működésének megváltoztatása, így a megnyitott és felnagyított képek nézését követően végre nem a főoldala kerülünk vissza ezt megnyomva.

Ám ezeknél sokkal fontosabb és lényegesebb fejlesztés, hogy immáron a felhasználók végre nem csak fogyaszthatják a 9gag tartalmát, hanem bővíthetik is azt, vagyis végre él a bejegyzések feltöltésének lehetősége, igaz, ez jelen pillanatban csak képekre terjed ki. Másik nagy lépés, hogy az egyes bejegyzésekhez fűzött kommenteket is megtekinthetjük, akár 9gag profillal, akár Facebook azonosítóval hagyták azokat. A program az alant található linken szerezhető be a Microsoft mobil operációs rendszerét futtató készülékekre, természetesen ingyen.

At CES 2014, XOLO had launched the XOLO Win tablet. This slate packs an AMD A4 12oo dual core APU (CPU + GPU), and runs Windows 8. XOLO Win it’s the first AMD-powered tablet of the company that runs on Windows 8.

The tablet has a 10.1 inch LED display with a 1366×768 pixels resolution, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, a 2 MP camera on the back and  1 MP camera on the front. The processor it’s a dual-core AMD unit clocked at 1 GHz. We also have dual-speakers, with a total audio power of 3W, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and G-Sensor. The battery it’s a 3.550 mAh unit, which gives up to 7 hours of usage time.

We don’t have any details about the price, but we know that the XOLO Win tablet will hit the stores by the end of this month. We hope that this slate will have a good price, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Today at AMD’s CES 2014 press conference, there were a variety of topics covered, especially the newly released Kaveri APUs.

We stopped by the NVIDIA booth at CES for a quick demo of the company’s new Tegra K1 chipset. In case you missed it, the K1 is more graphics oriented than the already powerful Tegra 4. It uses the Kepler architecture NVIDIA uses for its desktop GPUs and the K1 has a whopping 192 cores.
