Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 Smartwatch

submitted by Everyday Carry

"Smartwatches all run more or less the same operating systems, be it watchOS on the Apple side and Android Wear for just about all others. And the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 Smartwatch is no different in this respect, running the latter. Where it sets itself apart is modularity, since this latest gen model lets you swap out parts — and not just straps, either, but the buckle, lugs, bezel, or even the watch’s core module itself, when warranted. The module that’s included now though is already amongst the best in the market, boasting a 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, an Intel Atom processor, 4GB of onboard storage, and..." Intel’s first Optane SSD: 375GB that you can also use as RAM

by Peter Bright

A 3D XPoint wafer. (credit: Intel)

Intel announced today the first Optane-branded product using its new 3D XPoint memory: the catchily named Intel Optane SSD DC P4800X. It's a 375GB SSD on a PCIe card. Initial limited availability starts today, for $1520, with broad availability in the second half of the year. In the second quarter, a 750GB PCIe model, and a 375GB model in the U.2 form factor will be released, and in the second half of the year, a 1.5TB PCIe card, and 750GB and 1.5TB U.2 stick, are planned.

3D XPoint is a new kind of persistent solid state memory devised by Intel and Micron. Details on how the memory actually works remain scarce—it's generally believed to use some kind of change in resistance to record data—but its performance characteristics and technical capabilities make it appealing for a wide range of applications.

When it was first announced in 2015, Intel claimed it would be 1,000 times faster than NAND flash, 10 times denser than DRAM, and 1,000 times better endurance than NAND, though without saying "faster at what" or "what kind of NAND" or anything like that. With the shipping product, these comparisons are now clearer, as one of Intel's slides make clear: 3D XPoint has about one thousandth the latency of NAND flash (or about ten times the latency of DRAM), and tens times the density of DRAM.

by cellmate707

Netflix introduces a new feature in the player’s to get let viewers quickly jump past the intro of TV series. When the intro starts comes a new button appears in the toolbar with the explanatory text “Skip intro”.

Initially rolled out feature in a few popular series, such as Netflix’s own documents and other very popular titles. “House of Cards” and “Friends” are two of those lucky chosen one, and here you can already now skip past the intro.

Button is currently only available on the browser version of Netflix, but hopefully it will not take long before this also rolled out as updates to mobile applications. About Smart TVs also will get pleasure from this solution is not sure, but we live in hope.

It is not uncommon to set aside a Sunday to example wade through a half season Friends. After four five episodes are on the other hand quickly tired of hearing “I’ll be there foor yoooou” for the umpteenth time during the intro. Thus, many appreciate the ability to easily skip intro song, which tend to gnaw deep into the cortex.

A study conducted by Netflix shows that “binging” is actually very common among viewers theirs, according to the NY Times . On average, it takes one week to revel through all the episodes in the first season of a series and seasons that follow accelerated even faster. Stromme giant show that they care about this group, and the new skip function will probably be received with open arms.
