Mathematicians discover hidden order in prime numbers

by -NO AUTHOR-

(Phys.org) The seemingly random digits known as prime numbers are not nearly as scattershot as previously thought. A new analysis by Princeton University researchers has uncovered patterns in primes that are similar to those found in the positions of atoms inside certain crystal-like materials.

The researchers found a surprising similarity between the sequence of primes over long stretches of the number line and the pattern that results from shining X-rays on a material to reveal the inner arrangement of its atoms. The analysis could lead to predicting primes with high accuracy, said the researchers. The study was published Sept. 5 in the Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment.

“There is much more order in prime numbers than ever previously discovered,” said Salvatore Torquato, Princeton’s Lewis Bernard Professor of Natural Sciences, professor of chemistry and the Princeton Institute for the Science and Technology of Materials. “We showed that the primes behave almost like a crystal or, more precisely, similar to a crystal-like material called a ‘quasicrystal.'”

Jeanine Pirro Points the Finger at Obama: ‘You, Barack, You Elected Donald Trump’

by Tamar Auber

Judge Jeanine Pirro dedicated her opening statement on Saturday night to a lengthy bashing of former President Barack Obama.

Calling Obama’s campaign speech hammering President Donald Trump “a full-throttle savage attack on the president” Pirro ripped apart Obama’s Trump criticism point by point from his claim that Trump is “capitalizing on resentments politicians have been fanning for years” to his statement, “How hard can that be? Saying that Nazis are bad.”

Yet, her most scathing words were reserved for his claims about social justice and the cost of Obama’s lying ways.

“Your version of America is not the America we want,” Pirro said. “To us, social justice is about justice for American citizens and not illegal criminals. To us social justice is about taking care of veterans who come back to our shores with fewer limbs than when they left. To us, social justice is not about burning our flag, it’s about raising it and lifting it.”

She then pointed fingers at Obama for getting Trump elected: “I am sorry to say this, but there is one thing your gonna have to live with, the only reason that we have an outsider businessman president is because of you, your lies, your policies, and your divisiveness. You, Barack, you elected Donald Trump. And there is nothing you can do about the fact that he’s sitting in the Oval Office now.”

She then snarked, “So I guess I should say, thank you, Barack.”

Hemingway: Obama Treated Press Worse Than Trump Does, But Media Didn’t Care

by The Federalist Staff

In a segment on Fox News’s “Special Report with Bret Baier” on Friday night, Federalist senior editor Mollie Hemingway said former President Obama took more punitive actions against the media during his tenure in office than Donald Trump has as president.

In a speech on Friday, Obama said that while he complained about Fox News as president, he never tried to shut them down or call them the “enemy of the people.” Charles Lane of The Washington Post said that, as president, Obama treated members of the media fairly and championed free speech — a description Hemingway disputed.

“That is is not my recollection of the eight years under President Obama,” Hemingway said. “He blamed many bad things in the country on people watching Fox News. He claimed it was on every bar in the country why Democrats were hurt. He tried to freeze out Fox News in multiple instances. He spied on reporters. He’s one of the worst presidents when it comes to actual actions when it comes to the media.”

“President Donald Trump speaks against the press in a way that does not live up to what we would hope to hear in terms of freedom of the press,” she continued. “But when it comes to actual actions taken against the media, the Obama administration was bad and the media didn’t care. When Donald Trump lightly criticizes the press, they boycott him, they freak out about the White House press dinner, and it’s that difference in how they reacted to criticisms by President Obama toward press to how they reacted to criticism from Trump is frustrating.”

“When it comes to actual actions taken and attempts to spy on reporters or go after them, the Obama administration was very bad,” she said. “And the media didn’t have the same reaction to it that they do to the Trump administration.”

"This Is A Coup, Okay": Bannon Weighs In On Anonymous Anti-Trump Op-Ed

by Tyler Durden

Responding to an anonymous Op-Ed in the New York Times detailing an active resistance within the Trump White House, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon told Reuters that President Trump is facing a "coup" the likes of which haven't been seen since the American Civil War.

What you saw the other day was as serious as it can get. This is a direct attack on the institutions,” Bannon said while flying to Italy. “This is a coup, okay”.

The Wednesday column in the New York Times slams Trump's "amorality" and claims that "Many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations."

Bannon told Reuters that the last time a sitting US president had been challenged like this was during the American Civil War when Democratic General George B. McClellan went after Republican President Abraham Lincoln.

"This is a crisis. The country has only ever had such a crisis in the summer of 1862 when General McClellan and the senior generals, all Democrats in the Union Army, deemed that Abraham Lincoln was not fit and not competent to be commander in chief," said Bannon - whose departure from the White House was in large part over a fallout with Trump's "establishment" advisers. Bannon said at the time that the "Republican establishment" sought to nullify the results of the 2016 election and effectively neuter Trump.

“There is a cabal of Republic establishment figures who believe Donald Trump is not fit to be president of the United States. This is a crisis,” Bannon said in Rome.

“I am not a conspiracy guy ... I have said there is no deep state. It is an in-your-face state.” -Steve Bannon

On Friday, President Trump called on the Department of Justice to investigate who wrote the piece, citing national security. On Thursday night, Trump told a crowd in Billings, Montana that the Times should publish the name of the author at once.

But for the sake of our national security, the New York Times should publish his name at once. I think their reporters should go and investigate who it is. That would actually be a good scoop.

(APPLAUSE)

That would be a good scoop. Unelected deep state operatives who defy the voters to push their own secret agendas are truly a threat to democracy itself. And I was so heartened when I looked

Bannon warned liberal progressives within the Democratic Party that they would suffer the same fate as Trump. For an example, look no further at how establishment Democrats shunned Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez arer after her upset primary victory over the 4th most powerful Democrat in the House, Joe Crowley.

"Don’t think it will be any different if you take power," Bannon warned outsider liberal candidates like Bernie Sanders. "Because this is the established order dictating that they know better than the people."

Trump Swipes at Obama Speech: ‘I Fell Asleep’

by Tamar Auber

On Friday, President Donald Trump spoke at a campaign event in North Dakota.

During his remarks, he took a swipe at former President Barack Obama who earlier today railed against Trump and the Republicans while stumping in Illinois.

After remarking that he had been asked about Obama’s scathing rebuke, Trump suggested Obama’s words were good for one thing: sleeping.

“I’m sorry, I watched it, but I fell asleep,” Trump said. “I found he’s very good. Very good for sleeping.”

Trump then suggested Obama was trying to “take credit for this incredible thing happening to our country…We were heading south, you look at those bad numbers that there in the last couple of years, it was this way and going in the wrong direction.”

Then, a bit later in the speech, Trump returned to the theme, noting his speech was much more exciting than listening to Obama.

During Obama’s speech that Trump found sleep-inducing, the former president had suggested that “powerful and privileged” people want to “keep us angry because it helps them keep their power and their privilege.”

Obama added in his remarks to Democrats: “It did not start with Donald Trump. He is a symptom, not the cause. He’s just capitalizing on resentments that politicians have been fanning for years.”
